Diablo 3, patch 2.0

I’ve been meaning to make a Monk, Barb, or DH. I understand the DH was slightly nerfed with the 2.0 patch, but it still looks like a fun class.

I love playing the DH, but now it seems that I have to re-learn how to combine skills and bonuses to max out my dps which is coming in low now. I was trying to get fire and grenade bonuses on gear, but I have a manticore crossbow (poison) that really mucks things up and my newly acquired Izzuccob just doesn’t have the punch I’m looking for, but it does have some great speed…at 2.11 attacks per sec with it.

Yeticus - I was lucky enough to pick up a Kridershot the other day, and it’s the most absolutely ridiculous DH toy right now. I strongly recommend, uh, getting that lucky if you can. My nominal DPS went down from ~210k to ~170k, but my effective DPS probably went up 50%+.

What’s “effective DPS”, and what does the nominal DPS not account for? I thought they accounted for just about everything in their figure.

The Kridershot makes a resource spender into a resource gainer. So instead of running out of hatred, a DH will gain hatred while using elemental arrow… So then they never have to worry about using a crappy attack to regain resource.

Basically… Allows them to fire constantly.

C, When are you going to join us? You’ll be a greatly welcomed addition to the clan.

I’ll be upgrading my OS this weekend, which will hopefully enable the game to run. I would do it now, but OS upgrades can take a while, and I need my computer running first thing in the morning when I get up, during the week.

If all goes well, I’ll be on tomorrow evening, about 8ish Eastern.

Does Diablo support voice chat in any capacity? Or do we have a WC or other server up?

I will look out for that!

Addendum: I had a job today (yay), so I’ll be upgrading my OS tonight, and hopefully playing tomorrow (when I know I won’t have a job).

OK, I’m in. I haven’t had a chance to poke around much, but I’ve noticed a few things:

  • DH grenades are now one-at-a-time, unless you use the right rune with them. Boo.
  • DH sentries now appear where you’re aiming, not right at your feet. This takes some getting used to for a character who likes them right at his feet, but that’s how I wanted them to behave right from the start. Yay!
  • Brooding now only works when you’re standing still or for a few seconds afterwards, boo, but on the other hand, while you are standing still, it’s a lot more effective, yay. Still not sure whether this is a net gain or loss.
  • Many achievements have been reset, and many more added, such that I’ve gone from 90+% to less than 50%. Boo.
  • Enemies seem to have a lot more life: Even on the lowest difficulty, it’s taking my DH a long time to kill things. Then again, he’s really not optimized for killing speed, and he still seems to be as indestructible as ever: The only thing that moved his health bar enough to even see was Belial, and that was without using any of my panic buttons.
  • The drops are definitely better: I’ve already found two rings better than what I had, a legendary gauntlet that’s better, a pair of pants that I’m not yet decided about, and a new blacksmith plan.

Hey guys, I’m new to Diablo 3 and have joined the SDMB community (WhisperJet).

I have a question. I have a book to train my blacksmith how to make a legendary item but have no idea how to use it. How do I give the book to the blacksmith?

When you’re in the blacksmith menu (crafting, salvaging, repairing), just right click on the book.

The armor that drops now is much better (exception below). In the first few hours that you play the patch you will constantly be swapping your old gear (~200 mainstat and ~50 vit) for stuff with ~300 to both. But after a while, your only upgrades are going to be finding stuff that increases the dmg of the skills that you like to use. My Wizard is to the point where it’s gotta have +15% dmg to my main skills or it’s salvaged.

However, stuff doesn’t have as much Critical Hit Chance or Critical Hit Damage (CC and CD). I have yet to find any gloves that are better than ones that I crafted with the trifecta (CC, CD, and IAS). Also, I doubt I’ll find a weapon better than my 2 legacy Skorns. The new Skorns that I’ve seen don’t have the 100 - 200 CD or a socket. A weapon that can give you ~300 CD is hard to beat, even if it is 2-handed.

Has anybody done any crafting post-patch? I made some Hellfire Rings and found that the mainstat has gone from ~200 to ~300. I got really lucky on one and got 5 CC and ~50 CD.

However, I’m concerned that if I craft gloves, even if I get the trifecta, they will be more like 5 CC, 50 CD, 4 IAS, instead of 10 CC, 80 CD and 9 IAS.

Bracers seem like a good first place to start crafting, since they were one of the weakest spots pre-2.0 for most classes. It’s pretty easy to get 15% to a damage type, 300 main stat, 300 vit, and another decent stat; even a 4 or 5% crit in the fourth primary slot makes it better than 99% of what you could have had earlier.

The crafting materials will all be useless once we all hit 61, anyways, so there’s really no risk other than the gold. YMMV depending on how much gold you have sitting around.

In the name of science, I had my Wizard craft 30 Int bracers. [In hindsight, I wish I had my WD do this, because she needs them more, and I suspect that the skill bonuses might have been more “poison” instead of “Arcane” or “Cold”]. I had to swap crafting materials from different characters into my stash to do this, but this is science, and this is the Straight Dope.

11 - [10 - 15] to Cold skills
9 - [10 - 15] to Arcane skills
2 - [10 - 15] to Fire skills
3 - [10 - 15] to Lightning skills
(This means 5 of the 30 didn’t have any bonus to skills mod)

17 - [200 - 219] Vitality
6 - [41 - 80] All Resists
10 - [4 - 6] Critical Hit Chance

OK, I scrounged up enough stuff to have my Witch Doctor craft 5 more. 1 had a bonus to Poison skills, 2 to Fire, 1 Cold, and 1 Physical. None had CC, so I’ll have to gather more materials before I can fix her bracer situation.

So, if one of your characters is using bracers will less than 300 of your main skill, less than 200 to Vitality, and little or no CC or All resists, you should have THAT CHARACTER craft some bracers for himself. Several dozen attempts should get you some with a bonus to the skills you use, Vit, CC, and all resists.

I mentioned this to a few people in-game the other night, but people are buying white items for quite a bit of money on the Auction House. You can probably sell stuff for 40k easily. I sold 10 “exceptional quality” items for 150k each. The reason is that white items now salvage for “common debris”, which is being used for nearly all crafting recipes. It’s bound on account now, so the best way for the top players to acquire a bunch of it is to just buy white off of the AH. And since they have billions of gold, 40-50k is nothing to them.

In case it’s not clear, the above means that, of the 30 bracers that I crafted, 11 had a bonus to cold skills that ranged from 10% to 15%.
9 of the 30 had a 10% to 15% bonus damage to Arcane skills.
None had a bonus to 2 different types of skills.

In case it’s not clear, the above means that 17 of the 30 bracers that I crafted (just over half) had 200 to 219 Vitality.
6 of the 30 (20%) gave between 41 and 80 to all resists.
One-third added Critical hit chance.

OK, I’m going to play my lvl ~20 barb. Looking for whites to auction, blues to salvage, and yellows and legs to hand down to my Crusader.

And again, if you’re looking to speed up your leveling, I have a legacy Cain’s Set that I’m happy to lend out. I found a Cain’s plan, so I can make them to my heart’s content for my own characters. I figure we can keep the set in the clan for anyone who won’t salvage it.
