or simply put the Single Player Forum.
Ok and with what you know about those posts, they DO NOT apply to the Character Editors that we’ve been talking about in this thread.
Those so-called “hack” programs or third party programs are only applied when playing on-line or more specifically the closed Realms (USEast, USWest, Europe, or Asia Realms). So DO NOT think that this applies to playing alone on your cpu or even on Open Battle.net/ TCP/IP games.
And furthermore, Blizzard CANNOT detect Maphacks that DO NOT send packets to the Blizzard Closed Realm Servers. Maphacks simply gather data that’s being sent to your cpu when playing on-line and uses this data to show you what is around you and what the map looks like. I’m 75% sure that Maphack users did not get banned for using the Maphack since it cannot be detected, but some people claim that’s how they lost their accounts (I think they’re bullshitting us)… Unless Blizzard is using “spyware” to see what your cpu is running during an on-line game, they’ll never know that Maphack is running.
The people that did get banned were of the Bot-Using variety or D2Hackit users. These programs send packets (or information) from your personal Cpu to the Blizzard Servers. Thus altering gameplay either beneficially (or thought to be). Bot-Users were caught using these programs that did continuous Magic-Finding (or MF) runs. Mini-Bosses like Pindleskin who can drop any item in the game, or Mephisto the third Act Boss had bots aimed to them. The bots killed the Boss and picked up the booty. This is where the Bot-Users got caught with their pants down. To pick up the booty, they used the D2Hackit program. This D2Hackit program sent packets to force the character to grab the item that was indicated for pick-up. The sending of packets CAN be monitored by Blizzard/Battle.net and therefore all bot users or D2hackit users were caught.
How Blizzard monitors these people, who knows? But to make sure you don’t get your accounts banned from on-line play, don’t use any sort of grey area programs that enhance your gameplay.
They stated that third party programs aren’t allowed but this applies to closed realm on-line play. Hack away on your Single player characters. I sure have, and I play mostly legit on the realms.
I’ve been playing D2 for a long time. Since day one of the release. I played through all the patches, and I sort of know all the public duping methods, character builds, item fads, and other things. I have a friend who lost a crap load of accounts from using the Bot. I haven’t been banned on-line, and i use the Shadowmaster Character Editor (for Single player action and which is a trainer/mulning program) and dare i say it… Maphack on the occasion. Oh and I also fiddled around with d2hackit, and bots about a year ago, so Blizzard was catching people more recently. I’ve also duped items years ago too, but I wasn’t greedy enough to continue my duping ways or continue using bots for items.
So don’t be so scared of fiddling around in single player but be scared of toying with packet senders on a closed realm. I am a lot more cautious now, I have a lot to lose.
