Yeah…and what exactly did your equipment cost? Want to take a guess what the SDMB equipment costs and work out the relative difference between whatever your data center brings in and what the SDMB brings in?
If you really are in IT, all I can say is…you’ve lead a very sheltered life. I’ve certainly seen data base servers go down for 8+ hours…and this isn’t even counting places obviously on a shoe string budget like the SDMB. Or do you figure that everyone has clustered, redundant servers with upper level switches just laying about in their data center?
I’m with the others on this…I’m just happy that someone busted their butts so close to Christmas to get the thing back up and working in such a relatively short time period, especially considering my guess as to the equipment and budget these folks are working under. Good job guys!
Haha, yeah. Posting is free. What you pay for is not seeing ads. And I bet they held up the “no ads” part of the bargain during the downtime (which, incidentally, was short enough that I didn’t notice, and I check the SDMB multiple times on most days). Stick that in your SLA, bitch!
I would be annoyed if I were still paying money to suscribe. I did find the “server down” message pretty amusing, though. It was something like “service will be down until it is restored” or something like that.
