The one lesson that we can all take from Dio is that if at some point something may be true it is perfectly legitimate to be a jerk about it. This post, while incredibly provocative, is quite apropos in that regard.
That said, that was one hell of a jerkish thing to say. Why race Dio to the bottom? He’s still going to beat you, he always wins that race.
I can’t resist a challenge.
Though I guess I’ve already lost that race, since I know how to refrain in non-Pit threads, while Dio’s filter is, by his own admission, intermittent.
I think it was a teaching tool. And a damn fine one at that. How Dio doesn’t see the comparison to his own douchery is beyond me. But if he was perceptive we wouldn’t be having this thread, would we?
Still I’m glad BE did it and not me… because really, I thought about it.
I agree leave the kids out of it. But, Dio has has shown bruise that some people are gonna take a poke at. They know any mention of his daughters (in an inappropriate way) is gonna raise his hackles.
First, no, I wasn’t going to talk about someone fucking his daughter. Just a true but dubious type remark to show that “factually true” doesn’t mean it’s not jerkish. But it was just a joke.
Well, if you like I can suggest you favour the opposite extreme, i.e. his daughters get religion, join a Catholic order, die after long lives as virginal nuns, having worked tirelessly for decades to spread the Word of Christ and discourage the use of Satanic birth control.
Yeah, that looks like a total fail to me. Judges can rule on disability as defined by the law, but that’s not necessarily relevant to disability as the word is commonly used.
To extend the example, yeah the settlements are illegal because a judge says so (assuming he’s backed on appeal.). They may or may not be wrong (that’s a matter for debate) but they are illegal.
Full disclosure: I didn’t read either thread and can’t comment on Dio’s behavior.
Well looks like Dio is winning on page 6 – though it’s hard not to gain moral authority when the leading post involves crude remarks about one’s kids. o_O Yes sir, DtC certainly appears to be the class act on this page.
Seeing as we are in the pit and seemingly anything goes, why don’t you read what people write then take just a moment to think about it before you post?
That way you and a couple of other people won’t look like cunts.
The point should be clear enough - it’s possible to say things that are true in a jerkish manner. It’s not even an insult to say Dio’s kids will be sexually attractive some day - the reverse, that they will never be, is far worse.
And if truth is a defense, even if it requires generous or disingenuous or overly literal or overly fussy values of “truth” (and saying his kids will one day have sex is hardly any of these), I can only calculate that if anyone can claim moral authority in a contest between Dio and I… well, I’m not claiming it, but I certainly could because a number of his “true” statements that, for example, belittle the infertile and whatnot are worse.
You never made *any *assertion about the law? So who was at the keyboard when this was typed?
And it’s all a red herring anyway, because you only brought up the disability dodge to avoid addressing my question about your ridiculous claim that only health related issues are medical issues.
