Seriously, if you ever convince anyone on the SDMB, it’s the lurkers and those not directly involved in the argument. When someone asks for a cite, you provide one to prove to everyone else that you’re for real. So, for the rest of us, please cite this - an argument you won which could have caused Diogenes to harbour a grudge against you.

Note that I used the term before when I replied to one of his posts, and he didn’t query it then, and he seemed to understand what I said.
Oh don’t get me wrong. DtC is pretty damn smart. And he writes well, and sometimes in an entertaining manner. It is just that he is dishonest & unfair in his debates. he states his opinions as facts, and when he gives a cite- he doesn’t mention that it is a position held by one guy, and it isn’t even mentioned by the mainstream- and then he insists that one lone nut authority he quotes is the TRUTH.
And Snake? Don’t bother with cites for DtC- I gave him one- from one of the most respected sources in the free world- and he blew it away and countered with another fucking stupid blog.
Look, there are subjects where there are little facts and many opinions. (Such as “Who wrote the Gospel of John”?) and then you can certainly say “I like this sites opinion, and I think they are right”. But saying something to the effect of- “there is one ONE TRUE WAY on this, and everyone else is a deluded poseur” is just plain wrong, and not even “debating”- AND 'dishonest". “My post is my cite”- yep. :rolleyes:

Yeah, Diogenes is pretty much a jerk, most of the time. But there are LOTS of jerks on these boards, so he wouldn’t stand out so much if he’d just change his name.
Cynic? Yeah, that’s a good one! A cynic is someone who expects the worst from everyone, who ascribes the worst of motives to everyone. Got that- EVERYONE. Whatever else he may be, Diogenes is not a cynic. He’s just a garden variety leftist who has never posted an original thought, who never deviates from the standard leftist line on any subject, and who never fails to find some spurious reason why bad guys on his side of the spectrum are really good guys.
No matter what our beliefs are, we all know that sometimes, our allies are going to turn out to be slimeballs. When that happens, the honorable thing to do is acknowledge it, NOT to make excuses for the offenders. A true cynic would know that better than anyone. But Diogenes will ALWAYS find ways to make excuses for the inexcusable.
