With a Journalism degree, that question made me laugh my head off but there is something very serious behind it.
A journalist snapped a Pulitzer-prize winning photo of a staving baby with a vulture standing behind it. Journalists were (are?) trained to witness history, not interfere with it so this was a scary thing to witness. The photog was asked after publication if he helped the child, which can seem to be quite a professional dilemma.
I know, that’s why I’m being humorous. But I still reject the question. It’s like when my nephew asked “Would you rather be a happy pig or an unhappy philosopher?” It made him very angry indeed when I responded, “I’d rather be a happy philosopher.” Sometimes ethical decision-making is about shifting the terms of the dilemma.
When I read the above, I prepared to answer, but carrps beat me too it.
And I know quite a few French restaurants that were predominantly bakeries, but with a wide variety of tasty soup / bread and cheese / quiche / sandwich style options, almost all of which opened early and closed by 2pm. Dinner places OTOH, were indeed almost all geared to higher budgets.
Batman v Superman. I am also a fan of the BtDKR, but that is based on a super overconfident Superman who (let’s remember) is absolutely NOT at his best since he just took a nuke to the face and who went in trying not to hurt Batman.
The Poll in question said who would win if they both had all the time they needed to prepare. Take Superman’s base overwhelming power, add alien tech, his own considerable intellect, and the point almost everyone leaves out in these things, the fact that he’s as fast if not faster than most speedsters, and he wins hands down.
I’ve never been into board games. I remember teaching my kids to count by playing Candyland and Chutes&Ladders with them. I’d cheat a little so they’d be guaranteed a win.
I love the game theme behind Viticulture. Had my eye on maybe buying that game lately. Kind of expensive but you know that’s true with just about any Eurogame.
Yeah, it’s steep, but Amazon often has for $45 on prime with free shipping, and that’s the essential edition that integrates the best expansion. Which is still not cheap, but much better than MSRP.
We are really enjoying Jaws of the Lion, and are about to hit scenario 16. If we do keep going, and it would be a long time off because we still have to open up Sleeping Gods, we would probably go with Frosthaven.
Some of the board games I’ve never played. Others I haven’t played since I was a small child, and liking them then probably doesn’t mean liking them now. There are several that I’ve played as an adult and do like, but one of them I like significantly better than the rest, so that’s the only one I voted for.
I enjoy Kill Doctor Lucky and Before I Kill You, Mr. Bond (and, yes, I have the original version, with that title, from before they were ordered to removed the IP name); both of those are by Cheapass Games, though I’ve found that both games have fairly limited replay value, IMO.
I have friends who are crazy for board games, though I generally prefer RPGs to board games. That said, the short list of more “modern” board games that I enjoy includes:
Pandemic
Settlers of Catan
Arkham Horror (a cooperative game, in H.P. Lovecraft’s Cthulhu setting)
Car Wars (originally from the 1980s; I have a big, gorgeous boxed version that I got from a Kickstarter campaign a couple of years ago)
I played Stratego a lot as a kid, developed what was, for me, an optimal board setup and gameplay strategery, and became practically unbeatable, at least among my family and friends.
Other games I really like these days are Bananagrams (like freeform and faster-moving Scrabble), Iota (kinda sorta like Dominoes; pattern-matching using small cards, each unique), Jenga (cooperatively building an increasingly-precarious tower using small wooden blocks) and Qwerkle Cubes (also somewhat like Dominoes, but with some additional complications).
Seconding that. I’d have been confused – did they mean that somebody had just been diagnosed with head lice, so we ought to stay further apart so as not to catch it?
It’s a derogatory term for the people for the people who get up and stand near the gate the second their flight starts boarding, even though they’re in boarding group 4. It’s used by airline employees and frequent travelers, who dislike the “gate lice” for getting in the way of the people who are boarding.
