Discussion thread for the "Polls only" thread (Part 1)

I picked Endocrinology, because I have had many hormone issues myself and a good Endo is rare. When I was younger, I probably would have picked Dermatology, but since them I discovered that my skin issues are (boom) hormone related.

My cats Summer and Trei have reasonable sounding human names. I dithered on Seven as to if that was somewhat quirky or odd. I settled on odd since generally most people don’t name their children numbers. Generally.

My cat is called Tony Stark, which is what happens when you let a 9-year-old name your pet. Together, they’re somewhat quirky, but we generally just call him “Tony” or “The Idiot”.

I had an aunt called Agnes Dustbunny !
(Not really)

I have a vewy good fwiend in Wome named Agnes Dustbunny…!

(Also not really).

Our last cat was named Atticus, which my sons thought would be a great name for a lawyer’s cat. Our dog is named Dewey, which the boys liked for no reason other than that it sounded like a nice, friendly name. I was holding out for Baskerville, but was outvoted. At least, I insisted, if we were going to go with Dewey, his middle name should be Decimal.

I picked psychiatry for my alternative-universe medical career, because the profession has always interested me, both of the parents of one of my high-school pals were psychiatrists, and I think I might have some small talent for it. It was also one of the few options that didn’t involve blood or other bodily fluids.

I am aware of the difference, and am unfond of excess ricotta. Stromboli all the way, baby!

And now I want a Stromboli

I just googled Stromboli vs calzone and came up with at least 3 differences

I’m not sure I’d ever heard of either before moving to New England from Texas, but they’re both commonplace up here.

Pennsylvania was the first state to have State Police and the purpose was to have jurisdiction in areas that don’t have police. New Jersey started the state police a few years later for the same reason. I used to live in an area where if you called 911 you got the state police as your local cops. Eventually. They had a lot of area to cover. It’s why during the “crime of the century” the Lindbergh kidnapping the investigation was handled by the state police. Some state police barracks handle highway patrol, some handle local policing.

In NJ the patrol functions of the various county sheriff’s departments are limited. In other states that have just state highway patrol rural policing is most likely handled by the county sheriff.

Yep. At work if I call the police, and I have, the PA State Police respond.

I voted Stromboli but I’m not going to turn down a good Calzone if you offer it to me.

I know a lot of native German speakers who say “Wiffy”. It bugs me, but that’s how it is. Those who also speak English usually say “Why Fy”.

Personally, I say “Wy Fy” (without the h).

I hear “wee-fee” a lot in countries where i is an ee sound.

Hey! Your poll skipped my generat–ooh, you sly dog!

Yes - the correct answer was the one ignored.

I’ve had Faygo Red Pop. My sister’s former boss and her family grew up in Detroit, so when we went to a BBQ at her (the boss’s) house, a family member brought a couple of six packs.

I’d never heard of it, let alone tasted it, so I drank a bottle. First, the color is, um, unnatural. Second, it tasted like Swedish Fish. Not my favorite flavor. But, then, I never had Swedish Fish until I was an older adult (an online friend sent me some). They weren’t anywhere around me when I was a kid, and I think it’s a taste best acquired in childhood. Tasted to me like liquid (the Faygo) plastic. The Swedish Fish just tasted like plastic.

I agree but I still voted the Silent Generation. Why? because they are quickly becoming silent says this Generation Jones/late end boomer. I’m missing a lot of these old friends today.

I would try Faygo if I had the opportunity.

Say what you will about the collecting hysteria over Beanie Babies, at least they’re soft and cuddly. Funko Pops are macrocephalic dead-eyed statues with zero articulation. Well, the head might be able to turn, but I wouldn’t know because I’ve never handled one out of its little box.

I picked 5+ weeks of vacation, but that’s because I’m retired.
