So how much tattoo does one get for $10k? A sleeve? Full body Yakuza style?
I have no tats, no idea of the expense.

Here’s a guy who has spent over $100k on his tattoos:
The Very Brief History of Temporary Tattoos | Tatt Me Temporary Tattoos.
The early history of temporary tattoos is vague, but most attribute their origins to the iconic Cracker Jacks® product, which began featuring a “prize in every box” in 1912. It’s believed these original prizes were temporary tattoos, and by the 1950’s, they sold sheets of these designs for 1 cent each.
As time went on, temporary tattoos attained more mainstream popularity via baseball cards, other trading cards, and with the development of “scratch and sniff” tattoos.
By the mid 1980’s, and with eagerness from Hollywood to create a tattoo that was only temporary, an inventor named Keith R. Relyea, received a patent for his method of printing images on a translucent film that could then be transferred to the body.
So far more common during my childhood (I would have been around 10 in the mid 80s) than yours apparently, but still probably a thing for yours. Doesn’t mean you or any other poster would have come across it or used it.
Thanks, good article.
I seem to recall that Cracker Jack sometimes had a temporary tattoo .
Did anyone else make their own temporary tattoos with a bit of paper and a pen?
Thanks for info!
I was never into baseball cards or other trading cards, and don’t think I’d have bought a sheet of tattoos as such. I do remember getting Cracker Jacks; but what I remember being in them is some sort of small cheap plastic toy. Maybe they sometimes had tattoos, and I just don’t remember it. I don’t know whether I would have used them if I had gotten some.
People drew or wrote on their arms sometimes. I don’t think we thought of this as tattoos.
From my childhod (1970s), I definitely associate temporary tattoos with Cracker-Jack prizes.
I’ve seen several shows on Broadway, but I haven’t seen any of the shows listed in mmm’s poll on Broadway.
Last December I saw the revival of Sweeney Todd on Broadway, which was excellent, and I think it’s a travesty that Sweeney Todd wasn’t included in the poll.
I’ve only seen one musical, “Hamilton” at the Richard Rodgers Theater. Lots of operas though!
I have spent $50 on a tattoo design, but ultimately didn’t like it enough to get the tattoo. I’d like a tattoo but need to find the right artist.
I’m seen Les Miz, Book of Morman, and Beautiful on Broadway. I’ve seen Hamilton i LA and Seattle.
No tattoos yet.
I’ve never been to Sydney, and oddly I’ve never seen an off-broadway show in NYC. The others on the list I’ve all done many times.
There were a lot of musicals that weren’t in the poll, enough so that I can’t consider any particular omission a surprise or a travesty. But I was curious what standards @Mean_Mr.Mustard used when decising which to include in his poll, or whether he just listed whatever sprang to his mind at the moment.
Another vote for 0, surprised it wasn’t an option. Reminds me of this
That cartoon made me chuckle, thanks!
Damned if I know whether we should declare war if China attacks Taiwan.
I can think of real good arguments on both sides.
I voted “Yes, but…” on the China vs. Taiwan question. Yes, because Crimea + Ukraine proved that ignoring the actions of an expansionist power (appeasement by any other name) doesn’t seem to work, with the “but…” being a huge number of costs involved: economic, political, lack of material (production and stockpiles), et al.
Personally, I think China has a better read on the US than vice versa, and they’ll wait until the USA is fully invested in infighting (a new Trump administration for example, right after it guts everyone not meeting loyalty requirements) or the exhaustion of the “West” after meeting a good/bad/indifferent end/stalemate with Russia’s war in the Ukraine.
I used a list of the highest-grossing musicals of all time, but this only gave me 25.
I filled in the rest with others that came to mind, in addition to some i have seen that were not on the list (I acknowledge that this is cheating).
mmm
I have only had one tattoo in my life.
During a colonoscopy, the doctor found a tumor. He marked it with a tattoo to serve as a reference point for a later procedure to remove it. At the time, I had lousy insurance, so the colonoscopy was rather expensive, but the tattoo didn’t cost anything extra.
No tats, no piercings, no nothing. Never been tempted, never seen any that I like on others. Except for a bartender friend from years ago who had a small Mighty Mouse on her right boob in her cleavage. Tasteful and unassuming.
