Disney to acquire Lucasfilm for $4.05B [And new Star Wars movie in 2015]

Bring on the Gungan kickline.

I just hope this means Star Wars and Indy to finally be released digitally.

Does this mean Leia is now a “Disney Princess”?

Whatever gets us more Jar-Jar is a good thing.

Talk about burying the lead. Star Wars Episode VII…confirmed. Not directed or written by Lucas.

Good / bad ?

I think hiring real writers and directors can only be good. The hope is, though, that Disney doesn’t try to make it a kid’s film. Keep it adult and put some solid writers together and it could be awesome.

man i have very mixed feelings about this

star wars 7 is a dumm idea and i am mad as fuck that they are making it and mad as heck in general at the movie industry why doesn’t anyone know when to leave thigns alone haven’t you screwed up star was enough already. i plan to ignore this and go on living in my happy world in which there are only 3 star wars movies. sometimes I wish George Lucas had just died in 1995.
anyway does this mean maybe we can get a proper HD-release of Star Wars and not only the special editions.
not excited at all for the new movie there is no reason to make it ugh i hate living in 2012

My wait is over. Now they can make the Jar-Jar origin trilogy.

I am more concerned with the Disney Legal Machine vs. Fan efforts.

Will we see them try to shut down the 501st Legion and other fan orgs? Will they go after people who make their own SW related costumes? Will they stop Robot Chicken and Family Guy parody them? The mouse doesn’t usually play nice with others and that concerns me a lot more than seeing Mickey in an X-wing for episode VII.

So, when do the rewrites begin? I could just see Disney yanking every bit of possible romantic interest out of the Luke/Leia relationship. Can’t have incest here!
Also, Leia in a mumu in the Hutt palace?

And I’m excited for more Star Wars because, as everyone who was around for the first incarnation of this series probably remembers, there were supposed to be 9 in the series. I’ve been waiting for the other three for a long time.

For the price they’re paying for the franchise, I would assume they’ll put every bit of effort into satisfying present fans with the next film. The films after that… not so sure.

But don’t two negatives make a positive?

No. That’s not a joke.

Dear God, no.

George Lucas was always quite accommodating of those groups, its true.

Aaaaaaand, there’s a thread already. Kinda.

Well, to get my joke out of the way, the campout for the midnight showing tickets starts tomorrow.

You forgot the most important part:

It’s a new set of Star Wars films (well, most likely a new set, I doubt they’ll stop at one,) but without George Lucas. At best, he’d just be a consultant. That could be a good thing.

Joss Whedon as director? Or Brad Bird?

Oh, and for the video game nerds out there, now they can include Star Wars characters locations, etc… in the next Kingdom Hearts game. :stuck_out_tongue:

Edit: Oh, looks like there’s an existing thread here: Disney to acquire Lucasfilm for $4.05B [And new Star Wars movie in 2015] - Cafe Society - Straight Dope Message Board

Well, as far as I know, they haven’t done anything like that to Marvel stuff, so there’s hope. It doesn’t seem like the public associates any of their acquired properties with Disney, with the possible exception of Pixar. Shutting stuff down is all about branding for them. Nobody seems to call and complain because Peter Parker swears, but have a generic princess who merely looks like Sleeping Beauty do it…

Also, they can’t stop parody. They can keep you from using their trademark in Mickey Mouse, but that’s about it. Unless, of course, they use their immense power to adulterate copyright law again.

i’ll see it only if it stars Billy Dee

Well, at least (looking at what else Disney owns) we can look forward to a sequel of Star Wars meets the Muppets’ Pigs in Space!

So what does everyone think VII will be or should be about.

I played a Star Wars game Jedi Acadamy where it was after 6 and was basically Luke rebuilding the Jedi order and you were a new student.

If they do that and make it 30 years in the future they could have Mark Hamill reprise his role as Luke and be married and have his kid in the film.

I think that’d be cool.

ETA: plus the Empire is doing some bad shit and the Sith are also trying to rebuild saying, "Fuck that only two rule. Let’s have a buttload of them.
