I see them all over the place these days: Baked Lay’s Potato Chips, and many other brands as well.
They stopped selling anything else at the cafeteria at work. I asked the manager if I could get some “real” potato chips and she told me that they are not available and that folks are more health conscious these days.
I call BS to that: the vending machine right outside the cafeteria sells the good stuff.
I noticed that the local Subway sells both varieties, but whenever I am there, most of the good fried chips are gone, leaving behind lots of empty shelves and lots of cardboard chips. Does this mean they replenish the good ones slower or they are quickly snapped up by hungry customers?
Ooh yes, especially the Doritos ones. There’s something addictive about their texture and they feel less greasy on my fingers (though I’m not about to fool myself into believing they’re anything close to health food).
I don’t care for Baked Doritos, but I like the Baked Lay’s potato chips better than regular, for pretty much the same reasons as Cat Fight. I mostly eat potato chips when I have a salt craving, anyway, so the chip itself is kind of immaterial to me.
I prefer the baked chips, too. I didn’t like them at first, because the lack of grease made them not taste “right”, but nowadays I can’t take grease load of the regular chips. This also goes for other snacks - I like the baked Quaker rice cake snacks, dry roasted nuts and other less greasy, heavy things.
I can tell the difference, but I’d rather take the “healthier” option, so I guess in that way I prefer the baked over originals, but I do believe the taste isn’t as good, however Baked Lays BBQ and Doritos are the closest I’ve come to where it doesn’t feel like I’m “trading away” taste for healthiness.
Maybe I ought to try a regular diet of baked chips to see if I forget what the real ones were like. Kind of like drinking soda with high fructose corn syrup instead of cane sugar: I never even notice it until I’m in South America drinking a real Coke.
I thought “it’s a poll, so it goes to IMHO” but then I thought “it’s a rant, so it is for the Pit” but then I though “it’s a lame rant so it belongs in MPSIMS.” Totally forgot Cafe Society
I like them, but not as a potato chip - they’re like a different sort of thing, you know? I like the barbeque ones. (My boyfriend for some reason always calls them the “KC Masterpiece” ones, which is correct, but who does that? Who doesn’t call them “the barbeque chips”? He’s like Rainman sometimes.)
DON’T DO IT!! I don’t know what’s wrong with all these people, but I agree the new stuff is garbage. If you want healthy, go eat a rice cake and leave my greasy chips alone. It’s going along with stuff like this, “Oh, I’ll just try it”, that leads to pizza with broccoli, or pineapples, or artichokes (I really saw this). That crap isn’t pizza, it’s round vegetable bread!
Stand up for your beliefs and don’t be like the others. Insist on the most artery-clogging option available. Sure we’ll die earlier than the others, but we’ll die happier.
(and just ignore the fact that I only drink diet colas, I have a good rant going and I don’t need logic fouling that up)
The only thing I don’t like about Lay’s Baked chips is that it’s almost impossible for me to find the single-serving ones in any flavor besides regular. Otherwise, I think they’re a great alternative to the regular stuff (which I can’t even eat anymore, they’re so greasy now), and I usually have a couple of small bags each week.
I prefer the Baked Doritos and Cheetos to the baked chips, as far as comparing them to the original. But I don’t eat them because they taste better than the originals, you know?
