Does the value of a sex-worker's virginity increase or decrease with age?

I do not even want to know what possesed you to type this. Do you actually think that those of us who are still virgins, no matter our age, are just waiting to sell it to the highest bidder? WTF? Did you have a brain tumor for breakfast?

For myself, when I was in high school, there were not that many guys I would have chosen to go to bed with. Guys whose personality I’d loathed, guys who had teased me too much, guys who just were not my type. I am not sure how much their appearances factored in, FWIW, YMMV. There was one I wanted very badly, he was much the same height, but we had things in conmon. Another guy I knew was cute, but he chose to start a rumour about me, and i have despised him ever since.

We are beautiful and we are worth it, and have formed a little support group on this message board. Some of us are waiting for “the one”, some of us are not.
[sugary optimism] I like to think that some of us from this group on the SDMB will get together, and be happy[/sugary optimism]

Anya Marie: As if the cheap air freshner guy wasn’t enough.

I never suggested you should register your body at E-bay. Although that seems a fairly internet friendly idea. I suppose I was trying to say that a whole lot of people seem to be inept at getting what they want from life.

Air freshener??!!

[snarl]Ha Ha Ha [/snarl]

Or at least getting maximum return from it.

Well, yeah. Sorta part and parcel of the human condition, and certainly not limited to sex.

Since when did nuns gets evicted for non payment of rent? But I think what you’re really saying, Picmr, is that if you could cover a nun’s retinol habit, you’d have an iron-clad investment. Right or wrong?

How much do you wish Hildegarde of Bingen was the patron saint of bullimia?

G. Nome slanders picmr

And then there’s G. Nome’s bank-shot off Betelgeuse response to handy:

**

Gee whiz, not for a moment implying that this isn’t more fun a basketful of kittens and a multi-car wreck, but is there some point to this? Other than the usual tiresome, self-idulgent G. Nome stroke thread, that is.

Once again you’ve taken some very cheap, nasty, unprovoked shots, G. Nome.

Veb

FWIW TVeblen I wasn’t at all offended. Indeed G. Nomes’s comment was much in the same vein as my post. I would have used “smooth” rather than “iron-clad” for the retinol-tweaked (in)vestment, though. But I have no idea how the OP relates to

Well, as long as you define “a whole lot of people” as “nuns who decide to leave the convent in favour of a career on their backs”, that statement makes perfect sense to me!
I mean, Weirddave has given us an excellent first hand account of why nuns-gone-hoes have a hard time finding clients. The novelty factor is long gone.

Well I say the price of virginity decreases with age. There is no way that a virgin woman of 50 can net $1000 in a weekend. However an eleven year old virgin girl did just that on the streets of Vancouver several weeks ago. Albeit it she was drugged and forced. (just a little reality check in an otherwise funny frivolous discussion)

Uh, Veb, replace “you” with “one” in G. Nome’s responses to picmr and handy. They weren’t slander, they were one-liners.

TVeblen: YOU ARE TOO WEIRD TO BE A MODERATOR. You trade in some kind of thoughtspeak thing in which asides, little jokes, digressions and light banter is prohibited. The name of this forum doesn’t suggest contributors to it require Alfred North Whitehead’s command of logic anyway. In reference to Handy: My (presumably tired) Hildegard of Bingen joke was not intended to be flirtatious but I consider its intention to be the opposite of a “cheap, nasty shot”. What can you mean??? And slandering Picmr? What’s that about? That I even understood Picmr is a credit to me. Well, two thirds of Picmr anyway. What does his username mean? I’d like to know.

Last night on television a woman who had been a 40 year old virgin gave an account of how sought after she had been at the time. She talked about how obsessional men had been in their pursuit of her. If I hadn’t seen that I would concede that the subject of this thread was a bit dubious. But I’ve changed my mind.

You’re right, G. Nome. Vebbie’s weird, and you’re the normal one. That’s why we made her a mod, and scratch our collective heads in disbelief at your OP’s.

FWIW, I didn’t think your comments to handy and picmr were out of line. But we’re all human, and we all have to make judgement calls. And your history on these boards hasn’t been exactly spotless, of course.
Vebbie may have misread your intentions there, but she’s got enough credit with me or anyone else here to do so - occasionally. Continuously posting like you tend to do doesn’t earn one that kind of credit. See the difference?

FWIW, I think it’s worth remembering that unadulterated Kiwi humour (spot the oxymoron) can be pretty caustic by mid-West standards – the Aussies can be blunt but the Kiwi’s can be blunt and a little obscure.

Of course, one may think the (possible) confusion that can result places a degree of obligation on G.Nome (does ‘G’ stand for ‘Garden’ ?) to make herself more readily comprehendible.

Hey G.Nome, there are folks here who don’t always get British humour and that tends to travel a little better – maybe you should stop hiding behind the ‘I’m a misunderstood Kiwi’ thing so often and just tone it down a little. IMHO, a confrontational style can be good (sometimes) but it loses any impact if you’re also misunderstood.

It also doesn’t help Mods to discern when you are being intentionally offensive – which is, of course, the very game you’re playing.

London_Calling: What could be more fun than watching TVeblen trying to be a moderator? It’s more high fives all round. But I say: I am a useful and enjoyable computer user. Let’s get along with me. Engrish for beginners - it works!

Don’t call me offensive one more time - intentionally or otherwise. I say I’m not. If you don’t believe me it’s time to go. Even if I said your user name was stuck in the 70s it would be less an attempt at offensiveness than just typical of things people to each say to pass the time. Do you know what seems most offensive to me about the Straight Dope? Incomparably offensive? The other, associated message boards that are rarely, if ever, mentioned on this one. The fact they exist has a real Welcome to the Dollhouse feel about it for want of a better description.

London_Calling: I mean it’s time for me to go, obviously.

We have associated message boards?

G. Nome, I’m sure you’re referring to message boards such as the Fabulous Forums of Fathom, or maybe Democritus’ new MB. Couple of things. First, they are not “associated” with The Straight Dope Message Board by any possible means. They just happen to be started by SD posters, and to some extend are frequented by SD posters. All fine and dandy.

What I don’t get is why it is a bad thing that these message boards “rarely get mentioned on this one”. Firstly, they are mentioned quite often. Secondly, what is good or bad about mentioning them not at all, somewhat, or a lot?

You said it’s time for you to leave. It’s either leaving or becoming at least somewhat coherent, I’d say. I mean, it must be frustrating for you as well: every single post of yours is met with a long string of “WTF?”-type questions. Unless, of course, you dig that sort of thing.

London_Calling, I work with a few Kiwis and I can confirm that they have a pretty off-beat, peculiar sense of humour. I am, however, never confused by what they say, in writing or spoken aloud. This Kiwi just happens to be a VERY weird one, I’m afraid.

What I said Garden Nome was that it was difficult for Mods to discern when you were being offensive or merely obtuse (in any particular post) and that you enjoyed playing that game. It would seem that some posters have taken offence (example: The AIDS quilt comment) – you may not have intended to offend but you play a dangerous game by virtue of your deliberate obtuseness. Ultimately, is it for you to decide what others find offensive ?

Stuck in the 70’s ? – excellent ! The album was released in 1980 but I take your point and wave my shinny medallion at the computer screen in acknowledgement. Of course in those days we didn’t contemplate virgin Nuns, Julie Andrews was the best we got. It was hard back then, so to speak.

Coldie – yeah, she’s a little bonkers. I just wanted to point out it can be difficult for Mods and Garden Nome plays on that. She does intentionally bait (in the best tradition of Kiwi ‘mateship’ humour) but on a message board with volunteer Mods it’s extremely self-indulgent and, as such, not a Kiwi trait I recognise.
