Dog Days: An August MMP

Happy Saturday!

JtC, I bought my ribbon iron years ago. It operates on AA batteries (I use rechargeable). It works well for ribbon, floss and ironing small patches among other things. I let it cool down much like my heat gun, an hour or so to be cautious.

Fixing to get sheveled and go up to my SIL’s. We plan to gallivant around a bit, then my nephew will have supper ready for us off the grill.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Mornin’. Figured I’d sleep well what with mowing the yard and the swimming yesterday, instead I woke up about 2am and never really got fully back asleep, finally climbed out of bed about 6:15am, so we’ll see how well I function on a short ration of sleep. It’s 68F outside right now, heading for 88F but cool tomorrow night…might turn off the AC and open up the windows tonight and let the air circulate.

Have never owned a cat but am enjoying the stories here about them.

And that’s about all my brain can generate now. Maybe more later.

Oh, I had the windows open and Coolio shut off all last night. It was lovely dozing off to the sound of crickets and tree frogs.

It’s raining now - not a violent thunder-boomer, just a nice, healthy shower. Monkey is enjoying having his favorite window wide open.

Me? I gotta close tonight, so I won’t get home/drag my carcass back till after 2 a.m. so I may just go back to bed here in a bit. I’d like First Breakfast before doing so - perhaps a bowl of cereal.

Good morning everyone.

It’s a refreshing 62 degrees and somewhat cloudy outside. The expected high is 78 with partly cloudy to mostly cloudy skies. I am watering the grass all the same though. I mowed the lawn yesterday but didn’t water it, so today it shall receive a lovely cool shower so it will destress and stay green.

I think today will consist of driving around to various destinations.

But first, I shall finish my coffee and finish watering my lawn.

Same here. Expected high is 72º.

Our anniversary is Monday, so we’re going to The Back Cat for dinner tonight. We haven’t been there for years. They make a good steak, but I can make rib-eyes at home. I don’t know if I’ll get the Japaleño Chicken or the Gouda Chicken. The pot roast looks good too, but I can also make that at home. I’ll undoubtedly have a sazerac or two, unless they can make a Vieux Carré.

A nice day in no. Illinois. I’m going to the grocery store today. That will probably take all my energy, so like swampy, I envision sloth and nappage for later.

Ugh, I got so far behind this week that I’ve skipped the last 100+ posts…I know no one else cares if I haven’t read everything/don’t comment on folks’ stuff, but I care. :frowning:

I am so loving the great weather we’re finally having! It started yesterday, but I wasn’t able to have the windows open due to the concrete truck’s presence. I knew the guys would be coming back this morning for cleanup and I didn’t want to risk be woken up by that, so I didn’t even sleep with the windows open; I plan to do so tonight, though. Today is/will also be glorious: right now it’s 11am and a sunny 73°, with a breeze and no humidity, and the expected high is only 82. Tomorrow’s outlook is similar, just slightly cooler/cloudier (which is fine with me). I’m even looking forward to next week, despite some forecasted rain, because the highs are supposed to stay under 90…kind of a miracle for mid-August in the DC area!

Between the concrete work at the house, helping my BFF while her husband and son are out of town (she has mobility issues and doesn’t drive), and my day job, it was a super busy week. A good week, though. And, as of this morning, the new concrete is all done! I was able to use the new patio to let the dog out…a big improvement over the wooden ramp out front that we’d been using since Monday evening. Everything looks terrific. I’ll be going out at noon, and am looking forward to using the new front steps for the first time. (I wonder how long it’ll take me to stop referring to the “new” patio and back/front steps…heh.)

I have my third tattoo removal session at 12:30, then I’ll be going back to my BFF’s place: her hubby and son don’t come back until Monday, and we’re going to do a little shopping (Kohl’s + grocery store). I need to go to the grocery store, myself: I’ll pick some stuff up while I’m with my friend, but then I’ll hit a store close to home for a few refrigerated/frozen items. Once I get back home I’ll have no plans until Monday, which is more than fine with me! I haven’t had access to my laundry room all week (it’s an addition and I have to cross the patio to get to it), so doing the wash will be my main chore this weekend.

The beginning of next week will be a little busy, as well. On Monday I’m actually going to the office, because a new member of the program leadership team is starting and I’d like to meet him in person (he’ll be there in the afternoon to get his company badge and laptop). I don’t think I’ve been there since late April/early May; it’ll be fun to see what month my wall calendar is on! And it looks like I’ll be going to a different office for a while sometime on Tuesday, to edit a classified proposal. At least Tuesday’s facility is less than 2 miles from my house – and it’s a building I used to work in – so I won’t really mind that.

It’ll be a short week, though, because I’m taking Friday off work: that morning Bailey has an initial consult at a rehab center (her 14-year-old hips are bothering her), then I’m going to a big gem/jewelry expo with my BFF. She makes jewelry and sells it on Etsy, so she likes to look for beads and other supplies, and I’m on the lookout for a sparkly cocktail ring to wear on stage – plus her birthday is coming up, so I plan to buy her something at the expo as a bday gift. Then, Friday night will be my first “guest vocalist” gig! :notes: Woo hoo!

I will endeavor to get properly caught up before posting again… Happy weekend, everyone!

Lunch break at Arby’s. We pretty much finished the light green, so after lunch we’ll do the dark accent wall. The weather is glorious and I have to paint indoors. Alas…

That reminds me. I have to check the bacon and turn the home fries.

Oopsie I know what you mean about reading and replying. We’re a talkative group. Congrats on the new step and new patio. When will you start seeing results? I think I remember you saying it was after this treatment.

In a bit I’ll be off to Oakland to pick up Beamette after her night of musical fun and friend time. For now, I need to bring her dog back inside and try to stop Yoshi from losing his skittles at people walking in the park behind our fence. HOW DARE THEY. or something like that. In his defense, we’ve lived here 3 years, and the park just opened, but the barking is getting old…

Happy Saturday everyone!

‘Morning, Mumpers.

It’s 58F/14C, weakly sunny this morning, with afternoon highs of 84F/29C predicted.

Like FCM, I’m soon off to help a friend and her husband paint their living room walls so won’t get outside much today. My friend has been besieged with health issues over the past couple of years and is depressed over how much her abilities to do regular things like painting have been affected. But I think she’ll feel better just to have it done. Hope so. Their A/C is on the fritz and I will be crabbyier working in the heat. They’ve called for repairs but all the companies are booked to the hilt, so they wait.

Hope everyone else enjoys a wonderful Saturday!

Reasonable sort for a Saturday, everybody else was out by 8:45. Of course, some PT supervisor shows up with a cart full o’ crap at 9:30, just when Hazardous Ken and I were leaving. Part of me is happy that I get time and a half to fix things late because people can’t get their act together, part of me wants to start carrying those ninja smoke bombs for times like this.

We know. And we care back.

He’ll settle down. In 12 years < laughs in Jack Russell >

Trying to decide what I want for a pre-late shift lunch. Something that’ll stick, but not give me the sleepies.

Maybe pasta?

It’s a soggy day in western Mitten State. I wonder how that’ll impact sales tonight. Will people brave the rain for their Saturday nite pizza? We shall see!

Home. It took about 5 hours all told to paint her office. There are a couple of spots that will need to be touched up tomorrow, plus she wants to paint the door molding and we’re going to put down a cove base, since we have a 50’ roll plus some leftover from a previous project. Just gotta find the adhesive…

I was just thinking - 18 years ago, FCD and I were in the midst of a major remodel of this house - as in tearing out the kitchen and a wall, building a couple of half walls, adding a pantry, moving a door, enlarging a window, installing all new cabinets and appliances… We spent 4 months, all while working full time. I had a lot more stamina at 50 than I do at 68…

But it’s time for some chillage. I think I’ve earned a rest.

Tomorrow I’ll add the pics with the dark green wall. I forgot to take any before I left.

  1. Go to Google.
  2. Search cat.
  3. Click on the paw icon (upper-right).
  4. Click anywhere.

There is associated sound.

And those sounds will mystify your cats. They’ll gather round and stare at your iPad looking to confront the intruder. Two of mine figured out it was a scam. One is still struggling to comprehend.

That’s adorable!
The sounds weirded Monkey out a bit, though.

Settled on a hot dog, pasta cooked in chicken broth w/a bunch of garlic (basically, ersatz chicken noodle soup but heavy on the pasta) and if I have time, I might slurp down a small bowl of Lucky Charms.
… or that may be my post-work treat while “real” dinner is in the oven/microwave.

I have tuna salad/cracker thingies in my car for a quick lunch break meal later.

Gonna do a couple more lines (of cross-stitch! jeez) then head on in through the rain.

I obtained compression socks yesterday and will wear them all night tonight. (Switched into them at the halfway point on my shift yesterday - they seem to help a bit. Elevating my legs when I sleep and immediately upon returning home helps, too. Thanks Nurse Boo!)

my dad had that rule also …if he could make it at home you couldn’t order it which was a pain since he was an accomplished cook (should have become a chef after he left the army ) which made going out a pain in the ass …now the exception would maybe the pot roast since he wouldn’t make something like that in the summer cause he didn’t wanna turn the oven on

wow, when they built the place were they going for the early gulag interrogation room as the principal’s office? look?

And yes some schools do that my junior high sp.ed principals office was designed to look like the intake area of a la county juvie detention center to remind certain students that that’s where they’d be at if they blew it there

It’s not a rule. I just want something a don’t cook at home. And SWMBO says I can’t cook after noon when it’s a hot day.
