Dog Days: An August MMP

I got up for TWO MINUTES to pee, come back to find Monkey has taken over my floor-pillow and is enthusiastically licking his backside.

Shoe, just maybe a little TMI there…hope the legs feel better as they get ‘broken in’ at work.

Regarding all the responses to my dinner last night, I knew it looked just like a patty melt, but where I’m from patty melts Always came with grilled onions and I’m not a grilled onion fan, so my brain just wouldn’t let me call it that. And that’s all the anal-retentiveness today…

FCM, shoe, one of the blessings of retirement is not getting up at 5am to start work at 6:30am (which I did for many years). Was up at 7:30am today and that felt just about right.

Nettie, nice picture.of Buddy; looks so content.

OK, paper retrieved and pill taken, thinking about mowing the back yard this morning (sun comes up there first, dries out the dew) and the swimmin’ in the afternoon, no soccer today do to a tournament. No rain either and heading for the mid-80’sF. So will burn off more calories and have to remember my belt if I go out.

All y’all have a great Firday.

I don’t think he’s quite comfortable enough……

Hugs to your wife, caughter and grandkids cookie. Hope that your month gets better soon.

seanette, Buddy looks so comfortable. You may have a point about the resting BP.

Moooooom, when I put fruit into muffins or cake batter, I shake it in a little AP flour. They don’t sink as badly that way.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, a load of towels and sheets ready for the dryer and a load of clothes on deck. Friday chores loom.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Buddy definitely has me trained. He hops up next to me on the couch, the HP laptop promptly gets set aside to make room for the furry laptop.

Good morning everyone.

It’s currently 56 degrees and sunny with an expected high of 80.

As you can see by my posting here, the hike is not happening today. I showed my husband the route and he immediately rejected it; mainly because it meant him getting up early. I wanted to go on my own but that caused much drama in the family; the kids were being dramatic about it, so I didn’t go. They all just sucked the joy out of it, really. I know that sounds petty, but that’s how I feel. I used to solo hike all the time and this was a simple six-mile round trip hike on a well-populated trail. I wouldn’t choose a difficult hike to solo, much less take the husband along, but it just caused more problems than it’s worth. I think I just need to find a group that takes all levels of hikers and join up. I am out of shape for sure but can work up to the hikes I used to do. I used to regularly do 15-mile day hikes on my own. Granted I was younger, but really, it just takes being in shape, being aware of my surroundings, having the 10 essentials, and ensuring those at home know my route. I really miss hiking and being out on the trail. I love the scent of fir warmed by the sun and the smell of the damp undergrowth in less sunny areas. I miss seeing the wildflowers bloom, the roar of the falls or rivers, and the incredible views from the top. On a clear day, I could see Mt Rainier, Mt. Adams, and Mt. St. Helens on some of my hikes. It was amazing and most of all, I felt at peace on those hikes. I miss that.

I need to mow the lawn, so maybe I’ll do that today. I also need to pick up some stuff from the store, so maybe that will be on the agenda. Not sure.

Mowage has been accomplished. FCD slept till nearly 9:30 and he came out wanting to mow. So it’s done.

Off to the shower with me!

The Ms awoke this morning sore, but not disabled, so that’s a relief. I was worried about a possible rotator cuff injury, since she landed on her shoulder. Tylenol and rest should take care of it, but she is now forbidden to go out for a walk without a walking stick to aid her balance, which has always been awful. Taking a fall at age 75 is no laughing matter.

A cousin of sloppy joes~Crumbled ground beef, seasonings like minced onions or Worcestershire sauce simmered together, usually served on a bun with dill pickle. Sloppy joes are prepared the same but have noticeably more sauce.

Friendships are lost over definitions of a loose meat or Maid-rite sandwich, whether there must be yellow mustard on the bun, etc. There’s usually four recipes for loose meat/maid-rites in every church cookbook. Taverns and bars often have them as their house recipe. They are a thing in Iowa where I grew up, unheard of in Boston or Nebraska where I later lived.

My paternal grandmother wasn’t nearly that old when she fell down the back yard steps and messed up her shoulder. Shortly thereafter, she moved into a single-level apartment.

BBBoo - that sounds like a very messy sammich, but I’d probably be willing to try one.

I’m showered and dressed. We had a momentary panic because FCD couldn’t find his phone. I called it and we tracked it to the garden shed… under the mower seat. I need to get him a phone holster - he’s going to lose his one of these days.

Shortly, we’ll be going out to clean his shop. Guess that puts off dusting to another day. Damn the luck!

Well, dammit. Guy was supposed to come mow my lawn (before property mgmt. comes for $$$ fees) but he flaked on me. He can come by 4:30 today … but I gotta be at work by 3.

We’re shooting for tomorrow.

Meanwhile, thinking the wildflowers (neighbors call 'em weeds, I call 'em wildflowers) were about to get decimated, I picked a pretty little bouquet.

Pic below.

Not petty at all. I haz a sad for you. I hope you can get back out to the trees, either solo, with fam, or with a group of like-minded people.

It’s a lovely hobby, it promotes both physical AND mental health … I hope one day soon to see a post from you all excited about the hike you just enjoyed.

Today seems to be “elusive phone” day. Misplaced mine in the apartment, used Google’s “Find My Device” to locate it. I knew it was here somewhere, just couldn’t figure out where.

Hell, I’m not even 60, and one of the things I’m most looking forward to when we move into our new house is no stairs!

Taters, I guess the silver lining is that your family loves you enough to care about your safety. But yeah, if they’re not willing to go with you, a compromise is in order. Quarter-hourly texts? A shorter trail to start? I like your idea about finding a club.

Not much on the agenda today. Laundry is launderin’ and other than that I intend for this to be my one day of sloth for the week.

Put some of the dry cake mix in a baggie and shake the berries in that to lightly coat them, then mix them into the batter. That helps stop all the fruit from sinking to the bottom. I don’t know why, magic maybe?

Cats don’t sleep like that unless they feel completely safe in their surroundings. I’d guess Buddy is liking being a house cat again

I am so sorry, you were looking forward to some you time. Your idea of finding a hiking group is a good one. you don’t actually have to hike with them, just let your family assume that you are. Do be sure of your cell coverage when hiking alone, though.

While I was at seminar, I saw a lady with a wonderful needlework stand. I have a stand, but I don’t like it so I don’t use it. The nice lady helped me locate her stand on Amazon (on sale even, she paid more for hers) and it arrived yesterday. Oh my gosh, good tools make such a difference.

I felt like the poor country cousin for most of the seminar. Those ladies had such wonderful tools that I didn’t know even existed but now can’t live without. Did you guys know they make battery operated craft ribbon irons? Or special wood things to rub over satin stitches to make the threads lay flatter? Or little battery operated gizmos for making cord? Me either and I don’t know how I ever survived without them!

This morning VBC thought she would chase GG around for a while so of course he ran. He stopped in the hall to look back to see if she was following and when he saw that she was, he spun around to run through the kitchen to the catio door. Unfortunately for him, he was still in the hall and ran head first into the wall, bounced off and slid across the hall, then got himself righted and made it safely to the catio door before VBC headed him off.

Afternoon all. Backyard mowed and despite raising the mower height a notch, still got 3 heavy bags of clippings…might have waited just a little too long to mow. Will get the front yard this evening, probably another 2 bags worth (and these are the large, 39-gallon trash bags). Swimmin’ may be the easy part of the day…

Work is going on next door. The family who lived there moved out about 3 years ago and it’s gone through a lot of renters since then and gotten worse and worse (can’t speak for the inside, but the lawn is one big mass of weeds and part of their fence has fallen down). About 2 months ago roofers came and put on a new roof and there has been a steady flow of workmen going in and out the past several weeks. At a guess, some ‘flipper’ got ahold of it and plans to sell it. Fine with me, long as it’s someone who takes care of the property. we’ll see.

JtC, poor old GG; life is so tough…

Wheelie, I bought my house here when I was 45, and one thing I insisted on was that it be one-story; guess I was planning ahead.

Taters, sorry to hear about the family drama; they need to let you have some space of your own, but I join the chorus and some type of walking club/group would be a good idea.

Cookie, happy news that Ms. Cookie is doing OK. And year, I’m nearing 70 and falls scare me more than most things.

OK, need to prepare for the great backstroking swim/whirlpool/sauna. All y’all take care.

So most eveything went almost OK today. Apart from the 0800 monsoon.

Awwwwww

I thiiiink he’s a chihuahua and papillion. Maybe? He’s got enormous ears. Giant. I really don’t know however. Right now I’m laughing because he’s doing this.

Imgur

He stands at our dog door. I strap it open for him. He’s so small that he treats the threshold like he’s standing at a window. He’ll stand there for an hour and just watch birds or the other dogs.

How is your mom feeling now?

I hope your husband’s colonoscopy is clear. Sending hugs.

Well, we need room for all of our friends. :hugs:

:notes:I’ve got friends in low places :notes:

Cookie I hope today is better and wife feels better soon.

taters A hiking group is a good idea. Maybe that would calm the family down. I belonged to a few in the time BC (Before Children). IIRC, the group had larger outings and members would post individual hikes looking for someone to hike with.

Beamer went off to his second day of school today, and Beamette is off to hers in a little while. After that, she heads out to her first music concert. It’s a small event held in a ballroom over a restaurant. I have begun reciting all of the rules of safe conduct for young women in a public space to her. She knows them and is being very tolerant, but I am fussing at her anyway. She’s vaxxed and boosted, as are we. I still worry.

The mortgage people are insisting one line of our tax return doesn’t match the IRS transcript. I have both and they do match. We’ve gone in circles. I’m now offering to highlight the exact lines. I have no idea what they are looking at. I’m sure we’ll get this straightened out, but what the hell.

Happy Firday everyone.

Oh! Does it have a bar? sign me up!

Sorry about you wife, Cookie.

A hiking club sounds like a good idea Taters.

That’s all I’ve got today.
Yays, hugs, boos, etc.

Cinnamon/nut rolls fix most all that ails ya, so the dough is rising in the proofer. Hopefully it won’t fall like you know who.

As you know, we have a ranch style house, but it as a full basement, so there’s a flight of stairs. My MIL keeps telling me I need to get the garage plumbed for a washer and dryer because the steps will soon be a problem. Um, maybe, but my mom is 88 and she still handles stairs just fine - her laundry room is in her basement. I’m not worried - I can always add one of those stair-glide units if necessary to get up and down the stairs.

We’re just back from Salsa’s for late lunch/early supper, so I won’t be cooking a meal tonight. I’m about to plant myself in my recliner with a book. The house is open, the day is wonderfully mild and not at all humid. All in all, a good day.
