Don't Blame Me -- I Voted for M&Ms

With Halloween approaching, the people at the shopping service Instacart have released what they claim is a state-by-state listing of the favorite candy in each state. Their results: The most favorite candy in 15 states is peanut M&Ms and in 33 it’s Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. In the remaining two (New Hampshire and Hawaii) it’s regular M&Ms.

On their map, if you ignore Hawaii, it looks like those bumper stickers following the 1972 presidential election, with the whole country red for having voted for Nixon and only Massachusetts discordant for having gone for McGovern “Don’t blame me – I’m from Massachusetts” (We ignore McGovern’s winning DC – the bumper sticker did)

I’m more than a little suspicious – only three candies are represented across fifty states? No Hershey bars or Twizzlers or Kit Kats or anything else? And almost all of the states only fall into two categories? I demand a recount.

I like Reeese’s, I admit, but I prefer plain M&Ms. Does this mean I have to move?

This shows the problem with Candy Electoral College.

I blame Big Peanut. I think extensive goobermandering was involved.

“Bad news is, I have a peanut allergy. Good news is, I get to live in Hawaii.”

Only for that particular head to head to head match. Scroll down the page and you’ll see how other matches turned out. For example, California favors Peanut M&Ms, Red Vines, Dum-Dums, HARIBO Gummies, Whoppers and Smarties.

He’s been out of office since 1981. Let it go.

Made me laugh out loud.

Dang, I guess I should move to Hawaii.
