Lake effect rain, of all things!

Cool enough that I can leave the AC off - - - unless my son is home.

Okay, Yllaria, that begs the question: Why?
Bump.
Perhaps he meant his “sun”.

Second half of October – the two weeks of pretty-reliably-good weather here in New England. Bump.
We have a municipal election today, and I plan to get out and vote in a little while.
Bump.
We’re having our first-ever mayoral election in two weeks. Until now, the mayor has been appointed by the City Council.
Bump.
Well, I voted. A complicated ballot: we voted for mayor, councillors, and school trustees; and there were four referendum questions, two affecting city issues, and two provincial ones. Note that all municipalities in Alberta hold municipal elections on the same day every three years, which makes it easy for the province to conduct referendums during municipal elections.
So, quite a busy and time-consuming ballot, but even so, I was in and out in about twenty minutes.
Bump.
I can’t stand much, so I’m getting an absentee ballot.

Results are in. Turns out that I know two people who were elected to city council: one is a neighbour, and the other I know from pub trivia.
Bump.
No bumps for a few days?
Bump.
It’s amazing how totally nasty a suburban mayoral campaign can get. At least it’ll be over in 11 days.
Bump.
Ours was not particularly nasty, but yours is?
Bump.
It’s down to two candidates, and I’m hearing all sorts of outlandish stories about one of them (some of which I suspect are true), but not coming from the other candidate, whom I support (with reservations).
Bump.
Yeah, sounds nasty. Do you have parties (Republican, Democratic) in municipal politics?
Bump.
I live in a mostly-Democratic area. There are a couple of Republicans in City Council (mostly representing the Orthodox community), but neither would ever get enough votes to be mayor.
Bump.
Interesting. We don’t allow parties to run candidates in our municipal elections–everybody, for any elected position, must run as an independent. That doesn’t mean that they don’t bring political positions to their office, but it does mean that issues discussed by council don’t tend to be decided along political lines.

Sorry to take so long to reply. I’ve been spending days at a time offline. Son got heat exhaustion back when he was in the army. He feels susceptible to heat. We both keep meds in the room with the window AC, which he says need to stay below 81F. And he doesn’t trust the thermostat on the window unit. So if it’s in the eighties or higher, and he’s home, he keeps it set at 71F.
The damn thing blows down our backs while we work at our desks, which he likes and I don’t.
