Doper Dating Bulletin Board

Hey! Look!ninjas! Thunder Bay isn’t THAT far from Northern Michigan, at least by the standards of people up there who are used to driving hundreds of miles to find some place that isn’t no place. And Muffin’s a LAWYER! Wait, don’t be scared–he’s a CANADIAN lawyer so that’s okay.

Thanks to a really odd boundary decision, I can see Michigan from TBay.

Just seconding, or thirding, the opinion that Furt’s post rocked. Totally on target and much more engaging than most personal ads I’ve ever seen.

I’d follow up, but nothing’s really close to me. Well, I suppose Northen Michigan’s almost next door (next to the far side of Ontario). Drat.

I guess I’m just old-fashioned.

Maybe it would help if you told me some more about yourself first…like, does your sister always ask strange women out on your behalf?

Wouldn’t you like to know.

Unfortunately unless a drastic move is in the future for myself or a certain other board member or two following up seems like a bit of a fool’s errand.

Got it in one! But it’s not just a blender, it slices and dices and juliennes too!

Remarkably well, all things considered. My friends call me Doc.

Enjoying the fine summer weather, business is decent and a major long-term project is nearing the key-turning stage.

My pop culture repertoire is somewhat limited of late though- I actively avoided Dumb & Dumberer, although I enjoyed the original. Still haven’t seen T3 or Little Nemo and I strongly doubt I’ll bother with Charlie’s Angels or Legally Blonde, having intentionally missed the first installments.

I miss The Simpsons and definitely Futurama, but I got tired of paying $50 a month for satellite service and only getting around to watching anything at about 2am.

I am, of course, fluent in The Matrix and Reloaded, The Italian Job and all the Bond flicks.

Always interested in a fun discussion/debate/crockery-smashing-argument involving thoroughly useless information. Had a nice chat with a friend at lunch involving the 2000 election, recent tax cuts, and why moving production facilities overseas is often a bad thing while the ability to buy dirt-cheap computer hardware is a good thing, and the reconciliation of the viewpoints thereof.

Um… It wasn’t as boring as it sounds.

Yes! A little vicarious thrill never hurt anybody.

Well, I could look at my dating options as being too far away to make a difference, or I could look at them as a great opportunity for a road trip. Is my glass half full, or is it half empty?

So, Muffin…

(everyone, say it with me now)

How you doin’?

(I think it’s time for a new catchphrase.)

Yes!

Oh c’mon, now you’re just messing with me.

Half full or better. You should see how far some of our people are willing to go for romance. I think they’re nuts, but I’m about as romantic as a dead halibut.

As me crewmates always say, “Ya don’t follow the map, you’ll never know if ‘X’ marks the spot!”

A new catchphrase, eh? How about …

Hey, good looking!

So how do you feel about a trip to your neighbor’s scenic capital?

Someone should hook up with look!ninjas for the simple reason that she, IMHO, has the coolest username on the Board.

I totally agree. It’s an awesome name. I can hear a little voice in my head whenever she posts: “Look! NINJAS!!!”

Another awesome one is you with the face. But now I’m off topic.

I’ve been meaning to post a real, honest-to-god personal ad on Yahoo Personals for a while, but the quality of people on the SDMB has to be among the highest anywhere on the net, so hell, here goes! I should probably take some time to do this right, but hell, I’ve got to start somewhere.

Hi! I’m male, 31, 6’1", “thick” body but not hideously obese, never married, no kids, just moved to Hernando County, FL (I’m about 50 miles north of Tampa) from Massachusetts and am now the proud owner of my own home. I hardly know anyone here and I’d love to meet some new people. I don’t drink, smoke, or use drugs.

My interests are very geeky - computers, radio (amateur radio, shortwave, etc.), electronics, etc. although I’m also a bit of a wannabe nature freak (I harbor not-so-secret desires to be the Crocodile Hunter, or at least Jeff Corwin) and I love being outdoors, especially here in Florida. I love the water - being on it, in it, or near it - and I don’t do it nearly often enough. It’s just so much more fun with company. Eventually I need to own a boat. Really. I’m also interested in “weird” stuff - secret government projects, conspiracy theories, UFO’s, the paranormal, etc. Although I’m definitely not a “believer” in any of these things, I find their causes and explanations - whether psychological, natural or otherwise - to be fascinating (or at least entertaining).

I neglected physical fitness for years but since last December I’ve been going to the gym 3-5 times a week (and it’s definitely paying off).

I’d love to meet the woman of my dreams, but at this point I’d be happy to just meet people to hang out with. It sucked to leave all my friends and family behind in Massachusetts. I have a few “qualifiers” for dating, though - no dogs and no kids. I don’t ever want children, so if that’s a priority for you, I’m not your man. I’ve dated women with children in the past and it’s never worked out and I’m not interested in going down that road again. And I hate to say it, but as much as I love animals (and I do!) I just can’t deal with dogs. I’m quite allergic to them and I just don’t like them, so I figure I’d best be honest about that up front.

As far as looks go, I’m attracted to a very wide range of body types. I care more about personality than anything - if you’re smart, articulate, confident and free of emotional baggage, you’re perfect. Bonus points will be awarded for creative and/or skillful use of the English language.

My e-mail address is in my profile. Drop me a line.

Dammit, I knew I’d leave something important out. I love music, too, and I occasionally like to delude myself into thinking I can play guitar.

and The Godfather, too, right? Right?

That conversation sounds like the ones I often find myself in, with all of the obscure tangents, etc.
