Success! I pored over recent photos and thought that one was least offensive. Most of them were saying to me, “You know, you’re really old now.”—which was my own private epiphany— Sorta like when my nephew got his first haircut 22 years ago. After the haircut, when he saw himself in the mirror he said, “Mom, I’m big! I’m big, Mom!” (Mine wasn’t quite that pleasant though)
As for beards, I’d like to say that the primary reason I have one is because I’m lazy, but that would be a lie. I’m lazy enough, but I have a beard because “The Simpsons” look doesn’t work in real life. My beard is my way of saying, “This is where a chin and jaw should be. I’d like one, please.” --Oh vanity.

Beards are cool. I think it’s that simple.
Here I am, a colorful tidbit in front of an array of dark or neutral colors (several students in one of my classes).
My hair looks like a**, but I didn’t know it was going to be picture day until a student announced it.
One of my friends adores this pic so much that she printed it out and taped it to her fridge.

It was an installation at an electronic music event. A long wire stretched tight, with a basic piezoelectic pickup at one end, fed through the big speakers. The guy who built it was fascinated with how the slightest touches, brushing it with a single hair and the like, made extraordinary sounds. However I saw he’d got a double bass bow, and was sure I could prove him wrong in his protestations that it wasn’t really effective You don’t see in that clip, but I managed to keep it going just about right down to the bottom of hearing range, changing from a pitch into separate audible pulses.
