DragonCon-- Atlanta, here I come!

Heh. My stated excuse is that I’m going to talk to “early-adopters” of technology outside the confines of a technology conference. They’ll be more likely to tell me the truth about how they feel about cable-modems, hand-helds, etc.

And why don’t we hold the dopefest in a bar at the Marriott? That way fewer people have to drive or taxi, and those who do will be coming to a central, well-known location.

Well, mannhattan, looks at the Electronics Forums if you haven’t already. Cool stuff in there.

A bar in the Marriot? Party with the Kingons!

Please forgive my paranoia. Not that I was serious. Except for the getting lost part. Did nobody ever sit down and say, “Hmm, maybe we shouldn’t have 47 million Peachtree (Roads, Ways, whatevers) in this city?”

Of course not whiterabbit Atlanta is proud of what made it famous so everything’s named after after peaches and gets burned down every so often.

Anyway, I am planning to enter a few Magic sealed deck tournaments but they are all throughout the day. Set a time and place for a get together and I’ll be sure I am free.

Any of you Con attendees going to the Guests of Honor Banquet?

I can’t decide if I want to go or not

Don’t leave me out!
I can’t come to the Con but I’d love to get together with all of you for dinner, drinks, whatever!!!

There are a ton of great restraunts here, many in walking distance of the hotels.
How about Sat or Sun night?

Walking distance?!

Are you insane? We don’t want to leave the hotels!

manhattan[sub]notice the correct spelling[/sub] has suggested we meet in one of the hotel bars. I admit drinking with the Kingons and Stormtroopers has a certain appeal. But I’m not sure about the crowds.

What’s really close to the Hyatt and the Marriott since us out of towners don’t want to drive?

Well, off the top of my head I can think of Mama Ninfa’s and Charlie & Barney’s, both in Peachtree Center. I’ve only been to those for lunch, so I don’t know what an evening crowd is like, though I assume they’re open in the evening.

I’ll be in Florida. Gotta get those continuing education credits through seminars.

I think there’s a Trader Vic’s close to the con hotels. I think it would be fun to eat there, just because I never have.

Of course, Atlanta’s Hard Rock Cafe and Planet Hollywood are both near the con hotels, but we hate them.

It’s a shame the Dunk’n’Dine that used to be right there has been replaced by a parking lot. Y’all need to remind me to tell you the story of the pimp and the prostitute at the Dunk’n’Dine while we’re together.

I can’t wait for this Con. It has everything! Klingon Weddings! Learn to Speak Elvish! John Rhys-Davies! Harlan Ellison! Scotty! The Miss Klingon Empire Beauty Pagent! Workshops on Dragon Mating behavior! John Rhys Davies! Aphrodite! Larry Elmore vs Don Bluth in Iron Artist! Whose Line is it anyway with the B5 cast! John Rhys Davies! Learn to speak Klingon! Joxyr! John Rhys Davies!

God I can’t wait.

I recently went to a con that was more comic book than sci-fi.

You can read about it here:

I’m still gonna be there.

Gonna be a blast.

Damn, people.

We still need to figure out how to find each other or set up a time and place to meet!

Arden Ranger:

True. When will you all arrive? I’ll be there early Friday morning to load in for an act called “Voltaire” (don’t know the first thing about him, but helping with the setup and breakdown gets me free credentials for the rest of the con).

So I expect to be free by about noon this Friday. Everyone reading this post, email me and I’ll give you my cellphone number.

I shall be the Nexus of Dragoncon Dopers.

My flight arrives Thursday at 6:43. I believe Verrain arrives about 10 minutes later and manhattan’s getting in earlier that day (I think. His date and day don’t match in the mail he sent me.:))

Email on the way

6:43 a.m. or p.m.?

PM. Although I’m sure to be up all night once I get there.

Or at least awake.

I will be coming in late morning Friday. I may set an Augusta-Atlanta speed record.

Mmm…Jason Carter…melt

In case you are curious, Voltaire is a Goth musician with a wicked sense of humor and a taste for the macabre. And apparently has Star Trek parodies for this particular gig. I know all this because I went to high school with his greatest fan.

Anyway, I will indeed be arriving around 6:53 on Thurs. and look forward to meeting you all.
