OK, read the thread and it’s really more of a tag team situation, since guns are an issue where they agree.
Notable for HD pretending to be skeptical about the assertion that a Presidential candidate might be at higher risk of being murdered than the average citizen.
Meanwhile, DD counters by repeatedly asserting that the fact that a referendum on banning handgun possession appeared on the San Francisco ballot at the time when Harris was the SF DA proves that Harris favors banning handguns. No matter how many people explain why this is nonsense, he just plows forward. “I read it in an NRA fundraising letter, so it’s GOTTA be true!”
They have secret signals. Like carrying an unopened pack of Camel cigarettes in your shirt pocket. If you think you have met a like-minded perv, you can bring out the pack and say “Care for a Camel”?
If they respond “I’d walk a mile for a Camel!”, they are totally pervo and also kinda old.
(Carrying the pack curled in the arm of your t-shirt is a signal you like it “rough”.)
I just want to add that I’ve always wondered about all this shitting on Hurricane Ditka. In the threads I’ve participated in where HD did too I just don’t seem able to offer the massive outrage against him that others do. It’s pretty weird to me because we have a number of people shitting all over threads here so people know thread-shitting when they see it (you would think). Yet the react with the highest of dudgeon to anything HD writes.
I gots my left-wing bona fides too, y’all, but I’m not seeing it. Is every post he makes a Celebration of Kumbaya and Rainbow-striped Unicorns? Not at all. But Jesus, if you guys can’t handle actual legitimate criticism from the “other side” then… I don’t know what to tell you.

My best guess is that the customary and vicious hazing of any new conservative Doper got out of control. Usually the nastiest and most tribal hazing mostly goes away after a while if a conservative shows that s/he has some brains and isnt entirely antagonistic. Not so with HD.
It’s like a game of telephone was started and the message got mangled and now folks think he is the Antichrist without much evidence. To me it’s more like the Boy Who Cried Wolf. HD is the Wolf, and a certain subset of excitable and pathologically cliquish posters here is the Boy.
When y’all first started pissing and moaning about him I heard the alarm and went to check it out. No wolf, just a sometimes uppity and sometimes bothersome dude, but no Wolf.
Of course I’m considering all this on terms of what I consider a scale of appropriate opprobrium for an internet message board. If you (dear reader) are instead thinking in terms of what comments would be appropriate at Obama’s funeral or an OpEd in the Times then I admit you make a good point.
By itself, being a conservative and/or a republican is not trolling but we could make it a bannable offense here if you guys want to be discriminating assholes.
I used to think like this too, but then the pattern of his posting started to become more clear – he virtually never actually argues, or holds back-and-forth discussions, but rather just nitpicks and tries to score points about evil libs, over and over and over again. Add to that his rather apparent lust for violence, his routine dishonesty, and the occasional misogynistic post, and it’s apparent to me that he’s an especially obnoxious and worthless poster. And all of this with a very thin pretense of being collegial… but dishonesty is not collegial, nor is a lust for violence, nor consistent nitpicking and a refusal to actually engage, nor misogyny.
There are plenty of conservative Dopers without these traits.
WTF? His “joke”, regardless of its appropriateness, was about New Zealand making an arguably over-bearing decision to censor video of the horrible shooting down there.
I am not offering an opinion on either the Kiwi censorship or Ditka’s joke. I’m just trying to understand why people are so out to get HD that they will claim he’s a white nationalist who finds dead Muslims funny when he made a joke about NZ policy.
I will certainly admit it could be I just haven’t seen the posts of his that make it clear that he’s a scoundrel. I sure don’t follow him around to keep track of the tone of his posts. I just haven’t seen it. When people post links to his perceived horribleness in threads like this one I look at them. And THAT is where I start to wonder about people ascribing false motivations to him.
See my previous post where madmonk completely misses or deliberately conflates HD’s reason for joking about New Zealand. It’s infantile and vicious hating on “The Other”. My mother taught me that’s not cool.
Yeah, I can’t stand the guy, but didn’t understand the reaction to that post. It was in poor taste, but it wasn’t celebrating the shootings or anything.
He’s just a disengenuous (sp, because I can’t be arsed) fuck who argues about shit he doesn’t even read. In addition, he has violent fantasies about shooting other Americans and appears to be genuine in his desire for a “Civil War” in this country.
I expect it’s partially based on the really awful things he said about NZ (IIRC) in another thread, after that tragedy, as well as how that post relates to his history of bloodthirsty and otherwise shitty posts.
Hey, you have to give dr. d crddit for the longest lamest tapdance of all time. He really has no clue about how San Francisco’s government works, and when shown his assertions ardme not factual gets offended (“Are you calling me a liar?”) and parses other posters’ comments with an extremist lens. It’s the verbal equivalent of watching the centipede tapdancing in those old cartoons.
