Drew Barrymore’s Golden Globes look has gotten a lot of attention. The girls at Go Fug Yourself hated it and thought she looked like a crazy lady who was shot out of a cannon. The Project Rungay boys thought she looked like Angie Dickinson.
I have to admit, I love the dress. Beautiful color, elegant style, well fitted. The hair was just this side of too poofy. I see what she was going for, but it got a little out of hand. I applaud her for having fun with it, though. Too many of the looks were either cliche, or boring, or both. If it was just a little bit more restrained, I think it would have looked retro and awesome instead of like she was kind of on a bender.
My husband and I both declared it, “Marilyn Monroe by way of Courtney Love.” It looks like she was going for Romantic Elegance, and missed it by thismuch.
The dress actually looks pretty good in that still, but in motion it didn’t move well, and the top looked like it was about to pull a Janet Jackson on her. It looked awkward, not graceful at all.
The hair reminded me of when my grandmother’s hairdresser takes out her curlers but hasn’t combed it out yet. Yuck.
I loved the jewelry and makeup though! Drew is adorable pretty much no matter what.
Just going by the photo it looks like one of the more decent things I’ve seen being worn by a Hollywood type to a ceremony. But I haven’t seen it in motion so perhaps that could change.
I loved the hair BUT I understand why others might not. I actually thought “THAT’s the hairstyle she ought to wear if she ever does her Barbarella project.”
I’ll get the warning page here at work if I click the link, but from what I remember the dress was nice but the hair looked like she had gotten fucked in the limo on the way over.
Boyfriend and I both thought she was stunning. Actually, I think she was the best dressed woman there. I don’t remember her hair being quite that large, though.
That’s it! It was her decision to fuck instead of getting the comb-out that did her in!
Another vote for seriously ugly.
(Just out of curiosity – do the people who don’t think it’s ugly remember the '60s firsthand? I think it’s easier to see the attractiveness of extreme 'dos if you didn’t live through the era firsthand.)
In a red carpet interview with Jessica Lange at her side she mentioned that they were there promoting their upcoming HBO film Grey Gardens (about, I believe, crazy rich ladies) and my thought at that moment was “Oh that explains the hair”.
I really like the dress itself, and like it on her.
In fact, I thought everyone at the GG looked great. Everyone was stunning, or just shy of it. No one looked bad… IMO. Maybe I missed some folks? I’ll go check out some stills and see if my opinion changes.
