The manager got pushed. Security showed up. Kid was cuffed. It’s not like he pulled a knife. You are way over dramaticizing it. A number of students asked if everything was ok and the manager sent them off.
Yes Chessic Sense, I am suggesting males and not females assist in this case.
If you can’t figure that out … I also didn’t say anything about “annoyed”.
If you are suggesting that there is no difference in a physical altercation, what if the kid had been shoving a woman, or the manager was 5 years older… or 10.
I didn’t see anybody asking to help and being sent off.
I am not “over dramaticizing” this.
This is exactly what happens before someone throws a punch and people get hurt.
A couple of students call from off camera and he shakes them off.
Except for a couple of shoves they were talking the whole time, barely raising voices. The kid was a total ass, but didn’t need to be jumped or anything. Security took care of it. Very civilized and no one was risking a brawl or bystanders getting hurt. You really think the cafe manager wants some 18 year old kids jumping in?
“nobody needed to get jumped”
The kid got jumped.
Look, the video was funny because the kid was such an asshole, it went on for a long time, and nobody got hurt.
But, if two of the dudes standing there has taken the kid by the arms and walked him out of there, while telling him its time to GTFO before you’re arrested, a ton of time and money would have been saved.
And when the kid fought back (he rushed the society officer while cuffed!) and broke someone’s nose, how woukd that play out?
It would have played out exactly (I need a synonym) the same. But the manager wouldn’t have been threatened for , what was it 9 minutes. I don’t know if you have ever been in his situation , but that is a LONG time. Things like this happens all the time. Usually the kids friends (I think the kid may be lacking friends for some strange reason) or random strangers, as I’m suggesting, can defuse this. But no, you DO NOT stand around waiting for the manager to get hurt. Two of his peers can walk him out. If he throws a punch at them, than they can put him down on the ground as easily as the people that did it.
Hey, let’s ease up on the kid. After all, he’s probably the next head coach at USC.
I hadn’t heard about this one so I looked it up. Looks like he went from a 200k CFO gig with a million in stock options to living on food stamps in an RV. Ouch.
Police showed up. I know a lot of folks–and I’m not saying you are one–consider campus police to be “rent-a-cops” or some kind of joke, but in plenty of places, such as the University of Connecticut, the campus police are an actual police department.
Aye, in Florida, campus police are the equivalent of State Troopers: they can arrest people anywhere, not just on campus.
Good point. I was faculty at a state college in CT and while we had security guards (unlocked classrooms etc) it was the city or state police who showed up for real trouble. At UCONN it woukd the state police equivalents on campus as well.
I love the idea that the manager, who was clearly handling the situation, was so vulnerable that a couple of students should have handled it, in order to save time and money. Was the kid a threat (manger in trouble!) or no big deal (peers diffuse, why trouble the police)?
Anyway, I’m done with this hijack. Different points of view, I guess.
WTF?
He definitely appears drunk on alcohol! (is there another kind of drunk?)
The obvious crime being overlooked here is socks with sandals!
There’s an enormous difference between the kid’s friends and random strangers. If I saw a friend going down this path, absolutely I’d try to talk him down, or physically lead him away from the situation. Because I’d expect that he’d listen to me, and not lash out at me, because he knows me. But an absolute stranger? Why would the kid listen to another stranger, when he’s already not listening to the manager? Why would the kid not react violently if a total stranger laid hands on him?
People should be considering what would have happened if the fellow had a gun ! Or a full auto machine-gun ! Or if he had suddenly produced a tripod Gatling-gun from his pants’ pocket and shot hundreds until the National Guard arrived and he shot them down too in droves ! And then he stalked the campus with a pair of samurai swords chopping everyone into little pieces !
All sorts of things might have happened: next time you see two people arguing, intervene !
And in the (hopefully) closing of this malodorous story.
Student who went on mac and cheese tirade no longer at UConn
I look forward to the article after his Nov 3rd hearing. To which he shows up in a suit and tie, with daddy’s lawyers and argues that he’s too rich and good looking to go to jail.
More like his ass is too tight for him to be a good bitch for his cellmate Bubba.
Not so. Their jurisdiction is limited to the campus, other university-controlled property and stuff within 1,000 feet of those areas, except where a specific mutual aid agreement exists between the university and a county or municipality.
