DST in the MMP

Somehow I slept in today and the sun was up before me. How dare it!

Enjoying my lazy morning until woman-unit awakens and graces me with her presence. Which probably won’t be long now.

There are two anniversaries in my life which are coincidentally adjacent. And the feeling of which has shifted a bunch of late.

Yesterday was the 41st anniversary of my graduating USAF pilot training. Which marks the start of my professional career. It’s a difficult milestone to achieve with life-changing consequences that you can’t predict until they unfold. And now, as my professional career winds to an end later this year, this is in a sense the last anniversary of that event that matters.

Today is my 35th wedding anniversary with my now-deceased first wife. And the second such anniversary since she died. But for my (and her) unlikely paths through USAF, we’d have never met, much less shared the bulk of our lives together. This could have been a joyous day, or at least one of shared quiet satisfaction at a great marriage. But now it’s not and can never be. Life goes on, but some days I really miss what we had together.

My new wife is now up, it’s a gorgeous day here in paradise, and the future beckons.

Good luck to us all as we navigate the slings and arrows of misfortune by dribs and drabs that all life is heir to. A steady drip-feed of crises and triumphs great and small. May our triumphs outnumber, or at least outweigh, our crises.

That was called a “Zoo”. It was decorated with 2" tall plastic animals. They also had a snazzy song the staff sang while parading the thing at high speed around the room. I sort of remember there being a siren like for a fire truck or ambulance as well.

Looking at the map, I think we’d have to walk it 4 or 5 times to fill a couple of hours. It’s leeeeetle!

At Daughter’s place to finish installing the door. So there’s that.

Good morning everyone.

It’s currently 37 degrees with an expected high of 65! 65! Haven’t seen that temp in a long time. It’s supposed to be sunny today too, so I have no excuse. I need to get out in the yard.

I remember Farrells. Yes, the giant sundae thing was called The Zoo and was something like seven pounds of ice cream. I never got to partake in one of those; my mother couldn’t afford treats like that, but I remember feeling somewhat jealous of the folks who did. I also remember having to stand in line forever to pay on the way out, where you had to admire the racks and bins full of sweet treats and candy. I think they purposely made the line slow so people would buy that stuff on the way out. I also remember liking to try old-timey sodas like Green Rivers.

nellie, I’m sorry your knee is bothering you. This is exactly what happened to me. I injured, doc said to give it a couple of months, and then I reinjured. It’s never been the same, damn it.

Bumba, I lived in Springfield, OR in 66-67. I remember going to Pietros which was right next to the river in Eugene. I recently google mapped Springfield and Eugene to see if I could find my grandmother’s house. The street that Grandma lived on is almost unrecognizable and so is the house. Not surprisingly, I haven’t been back there since the mid-70s, but still, it’s always kind of jarring to see the growth or decline of someplace.

I woke up waaaay late for me today, so I am kind of irritated for having lost my sanctioned goof off time. I need to get the day started!

I hope you all have a good day.

We decided to eat the chili/cheese/onion/slaw dawgs and fries for N.O.L. Thus we are full and ready for nappage and fartfest. Not sure which will come first. Then again, we could multi-task and do both at the same time. Howzzat for efficiency!

Nellie hope the knee is feelin’ better today.

Taters Happy Doperversary! Saw the piece of cake by your name.

Yeah, I think it might require at least an hour to finish one of those…

There was definitely a siren.

Happy Doperversary, Taters! :cake:

Belated happy birthday, janis! :birthday:

I’m sorry about the heartbreak, godbod. :people_hugging: Others have already provided great advice.

My volunteer meeting just ended, and I’ve decided to follow swampy’s advice and not go out tonight. I was mostly leaning that way, anyway, but I’m feeling quite lazy – even though I didn’t wake up until 8:45 this morning (and that was without any middle-of-the-night getting up to pee)! That’s a good hour later than I usually wake up on a day off, but apparently between Sunday’s DST adjustment and Wednesday’s super late night I needed the rest. I’m grateful that I was able to sleep in.

A little while ago, someone came by and took a pet ramp that I got for Bailey late last year (to help her get on the bed, but she never liked/used it). Yesterday afternoon I saw a post in the rescue’s FB group asking if anyone had steps or a ramp: I had both, and now the ramp is gone. Yay! The woman who took it would have been willing to pay, but I’m happy to give things like that away. Now that I have a photo and measurements for the steps, I’ll post them at some point (I got them over a year ago, but they wound up being way too small for Bailey).

Time to relocate. I ate lunch during my meeting, so instead of heading to the living room/couch I think I’ll go sit in the kitchen and work on LEGOs for a while: last weekend I assembled the drum kit (from the jazz quartet set), and it’s time to put the drummer together. If I get ambitious, I’ll also start the piano/pianist this weekend. Appropriately, I shall use my turntable and listen to the jazz album I bought on Wednesday night while I build a jazz musician. :notes:

Yay!

Nicely said.

We solved that problem for Alice by putting the bed frame in the attic and setting the foundation directly on the floor.

I don’t know about the other locations, but the Trader Joe’s near me has the nicest cut flowers I have found. I stopped there half an hour ago and bought my lady some:

We both had class today. She was at one fabric store learning how to use some specialized quilting rulers. I was at the second BOM class for my new project.

Every TJ’s I’ve been to has flowers. They’re prettier, less expensive, and seem to last longer than flowers I’ve bought at other places.

I haz a very blurf today. Felt just fine last night, but woke up all shaky and I suspect was running a bit of a fever.

Got some more sleep and am having some soup and Cheerios to try to settle my tummy a bit, but tonight is Long Night and I am not looking forward to being on my feet until 2 a.m.

At least the closing crew tonight is made up of people I communicate really well with & everyone specializes in finishing certain closing duties fast so it should, hopefully, be a good close.

If I don’t barf on anyone’s shoes, that is.

Aaaaaaand we’ve decided that we won’t be going to the ocean next month after all. Instead we’ll take advantage of a child-free week with the boat on the hard getting its new systems installed and we’ll do some manual labor on the outsides - sanding and polishing and such. Unless it rains - then we’ll just stay home and whine.

Meanwhile, the new storm door has been installed. Daughter still needs to do a little painting on the new brick molding. But our part is done. So yay. I’m about to assume the position on the recliner and read for a while.

I’ve started putting away the winter clothes and decorations. Next is getting the spring clothes and decorations out.

Evening, mumpers! It’s been a lovely day here, about 11c and sunny with occasional spots of rain. We were out last night to see a couple of bands in our local rock pub which was fun. Met a couple of friends and had a natter with the guys from both bands who were playing. Stayed for a while afterwards and were home just after midnight, on the sofa munching toast and having a cuppa.

Busy-ish day today, changed the bedding and eashed it, errands in town, quick trip to the supermarket for a couple of bits then home to shove the roll-suck around the house.

Pearl belated happy birthday!

Taters happy Doperversary!

godbod sorry to hear about the break-up, it’s sad to say that at your age it probably won’t be the lady either. Sometimes you need to kiss a lot of frogs…

'im indoors is making curry for dinner tonight and we have planned on cocktails and a couple of films tonight. I have some cooking and ironing to do tomorrow bit that is pretty much all my Sunday holds.

We have achieved nappage. Fartfest is ongoin’ as I post. Been a chilly and cloudy day so glad to be inside and warm.

MOOOOOOM I guess sometimes ya just gotta be all growed up and do stuff. May y’all get the boat in good shape and get some sailin’ in.

BooFae I think godbod might prefer kissin’ a frog over a lady, as long as it’s a boy frog.

Afternoon all. Did get out and wandered about the soccer fields for a couple of hours, helping coach and referee some U12’s, was fun seeing some old friends again and even if the temperature was 48F, it was still some exercise. Rewarded myself with a bowl of Cheese Balls (but with Diet Pepsi!!) and have returned to slothage for the time being.

boo fae, sounds like a fun Friday night was had. Enjoy the films, whatever you decide on.

FCM, nice that the boat will get attention, but I still think it’s a good idea that you and FCD get away sometime this spring. IMHO as always.

shoe, worked my share of hours feeling puny, hope sleep is your friend on Sunday.

Hippie, your wife is a lucky person to have you.

Oopsie, enjoy Lego’ing and Jazz.

{{Pilot}}. 33 years of marriage leaves a mark, doesn’t it?

Ok, need to forage here in a bit for some sustenance for the evening. Take care all.

There was a Farrell’s on the way to my Grandparents’ cottage. I so wanted to go there for my birthday at least once but as my parents had lived through tough times during the depression, my Dad said no, too expensive, instead we went to a pancake/waffle restaurant that gave a free waffle with whipped cream for your birthday.
There is a potbelly just a mile away and many more within a short drive. I went shortly after it first opened and while the sandwiches were very good, I thought they were somewhat expensive. Yes, I’ve been influenced by my parents’ depression experience.

I’m so glad that you did! One of my fav things to do, well maybe not at 2am.

Hubs won a trip from work to their industry’s conference on Oahu in 2000. It was for the employee plus one so I was able to go. Wow, what an absolutely wonderful time. I used to teach Water Exercise at a very upscale Club. The ladies told me how wonderful Hawaii is but they waxed pretty poetic and I thought I’m sure its very nice but that they were probably going overboard. Well, they undersold it; to me it is paradise. We stayed at the Hilton Hawaiian Village; could have never afforded that on our own. We were there Halloween week and the parade through the streets was a sight to see. We snorkled several times, once at Hanama Bay-not to be missed, climbed Diamond Head, hiked to a waterfall in the mountain, visited Pearl Harbor, I went on several spouse tours. After the conference was over, we went to Maui because Hubs’ grandpa built one of the golf courses. I was able to get a good deal at a condo near the course. Hubs tried to get a tee time, they turned him down. So I called, perhaps used some feminine wiles (sp), and he had his tee time. On Maui we biked down Mt Haleakala and took a snorkeling trip on a sailboat (which did not leave without us :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: ), perhaps it was a catamaran. When we went to mass on Sunday morning in Maui, one of the ladies from my Water Exercise class was also in attendance with her husband; small world. We would have liked to have stayed an extra day, which would have been free at the condo, but we had to return for the Catholic League Championship swim meet. Freaking good thing we did as my daughter achieved her state cut in the 500 yd freestyle event; I get chills just thinking about it. Thankfully did not see anyone wearing a string bikini. Perhaps 2 strange things, one that had nothing to do with Waikiki. 1. a guy on Waikiki beach who had macaws. He talked us into letting them sit on our shoulders and taking pics of us then selling us the pics as postcards. I thought our families would enjoy them. Mom framed hers. 2. we went to bed on election night with the news stations calling the election for the guy who ‘invented the internet’. The next morning we learned about hanging chads.

for Christmas our daughter gave me a travel container, sort of a cross between a mug and a water bottle. I absolutely love it for a number of reasons. It’s by contigo, has autoseal, is well insulated so that hot liquids stay hot for 3-4 hours, you have to press a button for the liquid to come out so it never spills, and is aesthetically pleasing-pastel turquiose and white. I’ve used it for coffee, tea, hot chocolate and water. So I give it 2 thumbs up.

I would not want to wake up or walk into that room. :nose:

It’s been a glorious day. Daughter and Bella arrived at 12:30am. Helped her bring all the stuff in from the car and gave Bella several pieces of the pulled pork. Then finished watching the IU game. Trace Jackson-Davis should really be the National Player of the Year, he’s just so incredibly good. So, went to sleep about 2am. Woke up twice to use the facility but was able to get back to sleep each time, so glad about that. Finally woke up at 9:30, a record for me. Got up, took Bella for a walk so she could relieve herself and get a good consitutional then fed her. Hubs had already left for his weekly blood draw; got the results this afternoon and his neutriphylls are the highest they’ve been in a year; his platelets are up but only in the 90’s, he doesn’t understand why his RBC are not improving. Made a scrambled egg with cheese and a tomato on top on half of it. Gave about a third of the scrambled egg-no cheese to Bella for second breakfast. Daughter finally got up about 11. She just had danish and coffee. Today starts the round of 32 so only 1 game at a time until tonight. Made BLT’s for lunch, well BLTPB’s for daughter and Hubs, they like peanut butter on their BLT’s and made an extra half strip of bacon for Bella. The second game was Duke vs Tennessee. Tennessee made many people very happy! After the clock ticked down to zero, took Bella for another walk. While gone, daughter and Hubs went downtown to an art installation opening. When they text that they’re leaving, I’m going to heat the pulled pork and side dishes. Gearing up to cheer on Big Ten teams Penn State, Maryland and Northwestern tonight.

Happy Saturday!

Happy Birthday Pearl

I’m so sorry about your friend Wordy

It was cold this morning, 38 feels like 29.
We went to the park and had a good time.
Ripple isn’t supposed to go until he gets his stitches out, but all he does is walk around, so it should be okay.

So now there is another problem, but I think this one is small and we may be able to fix it ourselves. The shower head dribbles when I run bath water.
Everything is one step forward, two steps back.

I took a long bath though, and dozed off a few times.

Rocky, the last time I did that we had a horrible cold spell afterwards Be careful, Fate has a problem with people being prepared.

Never been to TJ’s, I’m not sure where one is. I’ve been to Whole Foods, and wasn’t impressed. I think I was shopping for somebody else. When I was a pet sitter some of my clients would give me a shopping list so I could stock their fridge for them.

Very nice work Hippie

I hope your knee and itchies feel better Nellie

I’m afraid my version of Sandman isn’t too conducive to sleep

I’m tired still.
I know I’m missing a bunch of stuff, but I’m too tired to think.

Let’s just say I know my spousal unit. He’d likely end up spending most of our time away fretting about all the work that needed to be done on the boat. This way, we’ll have a whole week and weather permitting, we can get a lot accomplished. And we’ll only have to drive about half an hour instead of 3 anna half.

We’ve already told Daughter that we want a week in the summer so we can get out on the bay. This all depends on getting everything shipshape!

Lazy afternoon has been lazy. FCD snoozed, I read, fed the dog, read some more. Life is good. And lazy.

Save room for me at the PervFest!
