Easy day today… until just before quittin’ time. Then I had a couple of important issues to address.
She was my favourite aunt.
We decided on Chispita de Sabor, a taco truck parked at Beach Cat Brewing for the next three days, for dinner tonight. Not having had lunch, I was hungry. We had the Tacos da Birria (quesabirrias). I didn’t need the tortillas, but I did walk my 3.1 mile walk at 3.2 mph so I thought it would be OK.
The liquor store is nearby, so I grabbed a bottle of Maestro Dobel Humito smoked tequila to drink with it. (Mi esposa is having Cabernet Sauvignon.)
I had a message on FB this morning from Cerby’s new owner.
I think this home will be perfect, and I am crossing my fingers that Cerby doesn’t show his ass.
He got a home on 5 acres, on the side of a mountain, with two other rescue Aussies, and get this!
He gets to ride in a golf cart down to the creek to run and play in the water!
He should be too tired to be bad. A tired dog is a good dog.
He had a few questions about Cerby, like what we called him because he doesn’t answer to Cerby. I said we called him Cerby, but Cerby has selective hearing. I said there was a time when I thought he was deaf.
My poor son finally got some sleep today.
He said he fell asleep on his feet working last night. I had told him to call in sick.
He had been up since 4am Sunday and was only getting little catnaps here and there while we dealt with Cerby.
He got off irk at 3am this morning. Went to bed at 4. I didn’t want to, but I woke him at 8 to take Echo to daycare. He was back in bed by 9 and slept until 3.
Ripple woke him a few times, now that Cerby isn’t here barking, Ripple has picked up the slack.
I think Echo is starting to miss Cerby, she seems a little depressed.
I’ve been exhausted as well, more from the emotional roller coaster.
I get to cross an item of my BigToDo list. I donated a whole lot of dog stuff to the rescue.
I went to lunch with a friend today. It was good. I have been craving spaghetti and got an order to bring home. I don’t want to eat spaghetti in public.
I like Waffle House, but it’s almost all carbs and I try to cut back.
I think there’s a Denny’s somewhere near here, I haven’t been to one of those in ages. We also have a Bob Evans. Their food is pretty good.
I got food poisoning from Hardees once. Years ago, like 40 years ago. I still cannot look at their sign without feeling sick.
I had a bird’s nest next to the transom over the door a few years ago. We don’t use the front door much, but the mailman does. The birds would get agitated when he opened the door to deliver the mail. The few times we used the front door, pieces of bird’s nest would fall in our hair.
I’d leave it be, at least until the babies leave the nest.
{{{BooFae}}}
I am exhausted.
I’m sorry I didn’t retain much.
I have to give Ripple his pills, and there are so damn many of them, and go to bed.
When I was out walking today, a toddler had a meltdown, and her mama picked her up and said, “No. We are NOT doing this right now.” An elderly gentlemen chuckled and said, “Looks like you ARE doing this right now.” I had to laugh. Before I had kids, I always felt sorrier for the crying babies. Now I feel just as sorry for the parents.
Holy frick. If I ever go to a Waffle House at 3 a.m., I’m wearing full body armor. We can’t all be Hailies. I’d probably grab at a flying chair and end up knocking myself out with a fire extinguisher .
Yaaay! Party at doggio’s! Bring your own 45’s and adapters.
There’s an Applebee’s about 3 minutes from here. I’ve never been. My one prior experience was in Montana. I took my daughter, age 9, there for lunch. The music was so loud, we had to gesture to communicate. And the hostess totally ignored us for over 20 minutes while she seated twenty-somethings who’d arrived after us. We left, and I took her to Perkins.
You are not alone. I guess I’ll be swimming in shoe’s cold lake because I hate DST. I’m sorry, Emily.
Now that’s great. I loved the cook armed with a frying pan about to bean the crazy woman.
And this is even better!
My day went sorta boring. Had well-baby visit and, as expected, I’m now officially well. Went to nearby large supermarket for 6 staple mainstream brand food or bathroom items. They were out of three of them. Gaah! Headed home and had leftover “buddha bowls” for lunch with woman-unit.
After lunch we set out to buy 1 serrano pepper and 1 bunch of fresh mint. Should not be a hard task, but over teh last 3 days I’d already hit 3 outlets of our two mainstream grocery chains and come up empty handed every time. Time now to pull out the nuke-lee-are groc option: Whole Foods Paycheck. Not a place I frequent. Both as a matter of taste and of principle. Loins girded and wallet braced, in we go. In about 5 minutes we’re out with our two tidbits of gourmet booty: $3.29 cents total. I’m now sure they rung something up wrong, but I wasn’t really thinking in the moment. Wasn’t trying to steal. I told the cashier dude that was probably the smallest order he’d rung all day. He replied “All week.”
Home again and it began to spit rain. Rain cleared out later and with the Sun low in the west we had that extra sparkly clear air with extra sparkly bright Sun shining on the freshly washed-off everything. Very pretty.
Put the income taxes on the wire to Uncle Sam. Between that and my hearing aids this has been an extraordinarily expensive week. Sam won’t collect his last dollop of tribute until 4/18, but the pain is felt already.
I’m on-call for another 20 minutes then it’s time for bed to sleep just enough to get up early and be on call again first thing in the morning. Circadian consistency would be a really interesting idea to try some day. Although admittedly this one is near worst-case.
Haven’t seen an IHOP since the local one closed around twenty years ago. A Denny’s opened across the river a few years ago; wasn’t at all impressed by the meal I had there. A friend had the same experience; we figured maybe because we went too soon after they opened, before the staff could really get into the swing of things. Haven’t gotten around to trying again yet.
Colcannon, no doubt. The green stuff was probably cabbage, though Wiki says kale is also used.
I’ve met two of my five first cousins, and the two sons of one that I haven’t met. Never met any of my aunts (two), uncles (two) or grandparents, all of whom (like my parents) are now long gone. Last summer when I was out in IL for my high-school reunion I met a third cousin, one of her daughters, and her two kids – first time I’ve ever met anyone from my father’s side of the family.
I googled colcannon and simplyrecipes.com came up. The pic that accompanied the explanation was exactly what was served. So, thank you for the identification. And I think the green stuff was kale because it was quite dark green not light green like cabbage.
My aunts married Catholics. My aunt who just died as 10 kids (one died of cancer a few years ago), and the other one had six kids. I knew both of my paternal and maternal grandparents, though my maternal grandfather died when I was five. I really can’t name all of my cousins. My soon-to-be-dead uncle had two kids. I know one of them, but I haven’t heard of the other since I was a kid. The other uncle had step-kids. I don’t know them.
My dad died in 1998. His older sister died a few years ago. His younger sister died yesterday. The middle brother is circling the drain. The youngest brother is 81.
I’m sorry for the loss of another Mumper pet. It’s always painful.
I’m happy for the Cerby news. That sounds perfect for him and I really do hope it works out.
They used to have skillet meals that were pretty good, but the one’s I liked are gone. (of course) I used to like their ultimate scramble and probably would have been happier with that, but I hadn’t seen eggs benedict on their menu before and and wanted to try them. Never again!
I kinda like Waffle House too but I haven’t been in one since I quit smoking tobacco because despite it being decades since anyone was allowed to smoke in one, they still smell like stale smoke to me.
Well, that explains why I never get to have any fun. I’m long asleep by 3 am.
I think IHOP hash browns are the best ever, but IHOP is all carbs and hubs is no carb so I rarely get them.
We did get thrown out of a Cracker Barrel once. Kinda. We were out for a ride with the Leathernecks and about 20 of us went in for breakfast. Cracker Barrel staff knows how to handle large groups of people showing up at their door, we like them despite the lack of beer.
This time, three college aged looking men started making loud comments about Marines being baby killers. The waitress tried to shoosh them and they said rude things to her. The President in charge of Vice calmly got up and politely asked the people sitting at the tables close to the loudmouths to take their food and move so he doesn’t inconvenience them and helped them to different tables. He was very calm and polite until all the civilians were out of the way and suddenly he wasn’t. Less than 30 seconds later, he had his foot on one guy’s throat, another one by the neck while he bitch slapped him and the third one under the table begging to be left alone, please don’t hurt me!
We all got up, dropped money for our food and more money for tips and left. When the prez in charge of vice was finished, one brave employee told him that he couldn’t leave because they were calling the police. VP dropped a couple of twenties on the counter and walked out.
We did see many cop cars heading to the Cracker Barrel, but we were long gone by then.
So, we didn’t really get thrown out of one, we choose to leave because they allowed unruly people in.
Was her first name Caroline? If so, you have my sincere sympathy.
I remember those records! We didn’t get cold cereal often but when we did, Mom let us each pick one box of our own which we did because of the prize. Then nobody would get more cereal until all of the cereal was eaten.
Which is why I wish everyone had access to the surplus food program we have out here. Way too much perfectly good food ends up in our overflowing landfills while people are hungry.
It was way too cute at food pick-up today, kids are not in school this week (no idea), so they had the FFA and 4H kids running boxes to cars while the parents were standing under the pop-up tents and telling them what to do. The kids were wearing their show outfits and looked very spiffy in their cowboy boots and hats, but they also looked pretty wet cause it was drizzling rain the entire time.
Real cowboys are tough and work in all kinds of weather!
We got a frozen 5 lb pork roast that was “lovingly packed by the Church of the Latter Day Saints” in Salt Lake City, Utah. I always enjoy the surprises hidden in the boxes and spent a happy few minutes discussing the roast and it’s possible journey with hubs.
AT&T. I was willing to walk to the store with a payphone instead of getting a landline at home because I was so mad.
My BFF admires me for my ability to hold a grudge that long and hopes to someday be able to match my record. I now have a grudge about her assuming that she can do that so will outlive her out of spite.
I’ve heard so many people having issues, it’s not just you, but it still sucks. I hope you adjust faster than cats do.
Sari, so glad to hear Cerby has found a home (or vice versa). Here’s hoping he’s able to become a well-adjusted, happy doggo!
Easy drive to and from the airport to drop off Mrs W this morning. Stopped at CVS on the way home for my prescriptions. First refill since moving out of state, and for some reason there were problems with transferring one of the two scrips to the new pharmacy. But they were both there when I arrived, which is good because I only had two days’ worth left. I don’t like to cut it that close.
Got home and puttered around a bit, laundered some laundry, unpacked a couple boxes (yes, there are still boxes)… but mostly took it easy. Watched some pre-season baseball and a James Bond movie and it’s about time to call it a night. See youse all tomorrow!
Had a helluva scare at work tonight after we closed: manager told me the drive-thru register was short by NINETY THREE DOLLARS I only worked it a few hours towards the end of the night, but I spent an unpleasant few minutes trying to figure out how in BLEEEP I could have messed up that badly. I didn’t even have any big orders! It was all “medium two toppings” this and “single small pepperoni” that.
She figured it out (there were two “overrings” basically messed up receipts that had to be re-done, but weren’t labeled correctly as such) and it wasn’t my error - other people worked that register, too - and she never blamed me directly, but it briefly scared the {word I’m not allowed to say at work} out of me, to think that I might possibly have made that big of an error.
It all got sorted, and wasn’t my fault in the 1st place, but I left work with my nerves a-janglin’!
Nor have I. We did stop at a Huddle House once - similar sort of place I think - but it was memorable in the wrong way. I got pancakes with blueberry topping, and the topping had gone bad - ugh! Never stopped at one again.
Huzzah for Cerby!! I love a happy ending!!
Spousal unit loves Perkins, but I think the nearest one to us is in PA. There used to be 2 in this county years ago. The building that housed one of them is in its latest restaurant rebirth, having been a pizza joint, a bento box place, a pho place, a generic American restaurant, and now a Cajun seafood place. The other building housed 2 different restaurants before being gutted and rebuilt as a mini-strip that now houses Visionworks, Domino’s, and a computer repair place. Every time new commercial construction is spotted in this county, FCD says “Maybe it’s a Perkins!!” Poor hopeful dear…
That’ll put a pucker in your sphincter!!
Woke a bit after 3 to visit the throne and I’ve been up ever since. But I was asleep before 9 last night, so I got a solid 6+ hours - I count it as a win!
Another win - SIL called to say he has to work on the 24 (a Firday) and he asked which day that week I wanted in return! So he listened when I told him I just wanted the kids 3 days a week! Huzzah! I picked Tuesday, so I’ll have a 5-day weekend followed by a 3-day weekend.
And our mini spring break at the ocean should be really peaceful also. Nothing at the convention center since it’s the first few days after Easter. In fact, nothing showing on the community calendar for the 3 days we’ll be there. To my mind, that translates to no kids in the hot tub and not many guests at the Holiday Inn. The room price suggests that also - really cheap! I’m hoping the weather will be mild enough that we can actually enjoy strolling the boardwalk or the beach.
Our Christmas gift to the kids was a promise to replace their piece of crap front storm door. A couple of weeks ago, Daughter picked out the one they want and it came in to Lowe’s yesterday. So I guess we’ll be helping them install it this weekend. In fact, tomorrow is supposed to be low-60s - a mild day in the midst of some much chillier ones. So maybe then??
Other than that, weekend plans involve getting the fuel system put back together on the boat so we can move it to Washburn’s boat yard and get the bow and stern thrusters installed. Plus the usual mundane laundry chores and some rollsucking. I’m sorry to keep throwing my exciting life in your imaginary faces - dare I admit I get a sick little thrill making you all envious of life at FairyChatEstates!! Like last week when I dusted - I could almost hear the wailing and gnashing of teeth!!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 33 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 72 and N.O.S. for the day. No big plans at all for the day. Fine by me as I feel sinusy this mornin’, but not too sinusy. A day of sloth and general overall uselessness along with generic Claritin should do the trick. Sup shall be steak, baked N.O.T., sallit, and cheesey garlic bread. Easy and nummy!
BooFae I saw the news about Whisper on the book of faces. So sorry.
sari glad Cerby found a new home. Sounds like this will be an ideal place for him to burn off energy.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
UGH it’s back to the vet today.
Ripple’s wound is oozing and gross and smelly.
I told the receptionist I feel like we are living at the clinic.
This has been a very expensive month for pet care.
I thought we were done with this shit, but I guess not.
