I think there’s a middle ground between being treated like an Emperor and being called a douchebag and told your opinion doesn’t matter.
Should it be a democracy? No, and it never will be. Are the posters always right? Heh–some time in GD or GQ will quickly disabuse that notion. Should the administration treat posters with respect, and at the very least listen to what they’re saying? Yes. And, for the most part, they do that. The recent unpleasantness has just upset the scale towards the “irrelevant douchebag” side of things, and some people are calling them on it.
You don’t want to hear people complaining? Piss off and move to a small hut in Montana, which is just about the only place you’re gonna be complaint free.

Oh, sorry, not in those words. It’s more the calling posters ‘douchebags’ and then shutting down virtually every thread on this issue that isn’t an ass-kissing thread like the one currently in MPSIMS.
It sends a clear message that we’re not given modest respect as customers, but treated as annoyances that have to be put up with.

Be fair: this thread, and another pit thread currently open, are FAR from ass-kissing threads, and they’ve allowed them to continue.

Once, directly, so far. Of course there’s still the attitude that’s been going around lately that anyone with any complaint about the forums should just leave, and the fact that the attitude has been expressed more than once recently that those of us who have a problem with the actions of Tuba are being ‘too hard’ on her because she’s just so wonderful. There was the admin who opened a closed thread in order to get in a parting shot at people and snarkily laughed ‘tough shit, it’s my privilege.’
I’m not asking to be the god damned emperor, but I would like to feel like members are considered better than an inconvenience. Course even more annoying than what the admins have said recently is the attitude of other posters who appear to like being treated as if they’re beneath the minimal respect that a business should have for its customers.
Yeah, but what does that have to do how the SDMB treats paying customers? (We had a simulpost there. Did you think catsix was complaining about giraffe? Because I did not see it that way.)
You’re right, I have provided poor customer service. For that, I feel deeply ashamed – I hope that I can win back your business in the future. Also, I hope that you’ll blow me.
Listen up, drama queens. We’ve been asked to leave things alone while the powers that be sort out some issues. That’s it. The response has been thread after thread whining and rehashing the same exact issues we’ve been asked to just leave alone for a while. Lots of outraged demands, lots of over the top hyperbole, lots of implications of conspiracy and injustice and disregard for the lowly common poster. Jesus, just shut the fuck up and calm down. Barring that, go away. If you don’t want to risk getting called a douchebag by a moderator, start by not acting like one.
