Earliest/latest sitcom set in each US state

New Orleans La. Franks Place

Virginia - A different World

Carter Country, 1977, somewhere in Georgia.

Cincinnati Oh. WKRP in Cincinnati

Milwaukee WI. Laverne and Shirley

Beverly Hillbillies, 1962, California (is the place you oughta be.)

The short-lived sitcom Grand, set in fictional Grand, Pennsylvania, aired from January 18 to December 27, 1990.

For DC (which you left off your list) there is Get Smart (1965-1970).

nm, ninja’d

Definitly Detroit metro area. Tim talks about driving down Telegraph Rd, same road he got his DUI on before he left town for good.

Wikipedia at least classifies it as a “comedy–drama” rather than a sitcom. Ditto for Northern Exposure, nominated by someone else. I haven’t seen them myself.

Angie, 1979, Philly (Donna Pescow, Robert Hayes, Debralee Scott)

Here’s an updated table. I’ve added nominations where the year was provided; I don’t have time to look up the rest. A couple “comedy–drama” nominations have been left off since it’s not clear to me that they’re really sitcoms.

That’s because DC is not a state. (FTR, I adore Get Smart.)

While Northern Exposure wasn’t a traditional three-camera sitcom, and while there were dramatic moments, I think it was definitely more comedy than drama (when it was on the air, it was one of my favorite shows). That said, I’m not sure if it was precisely a sitcom.

And, now that I read its Wikipedia entry, it won a number of Emmy Awards in drama categories. So, probably not really a sitcom.

Delta House, 1979, Oregon

Flo, 1980, Texas

HA!

Gilligan’s Island. 1964

They set out from Honolulu. They are technically still “in transit.” Therefore, it is set in Hawaii.

FYI, the Connecticut episodes aired from December 1956 through May 1957.

And B Positive, a currently airing CBS sitcom, is also set in Connecticut.

Manhattan, AZ , set in a a small town in Arizona, aired in 2000.

Friends was on later than Seinfeld. (for NYC) According to wikipedia, until 2004. (I would think something would be even later than that, but nothing is coming to mind.)

For Texas, Young Sheldon should be in place of King of the Hill for latest. Although, they are actively attempting to revive KOTH at present, so it may be true in another year.
