Just like it says - I’m in San Jose and it was a moderately good one, I think.
Burlingame reporting in. That was a weird one–you always hear that it was a “rolling motion,” but this seemed smoother and rollier than usual, and it seemed to go on for a long time.
Yup, I felt it and I’m all the way out in the Central Valley. How big was it?
Mr. Pug found a U.S. geological website of some sort, and said that it was reporting it near Parkfield or Paso Robles, and it was a 5.
Everyone okay? Check in, CalDopers!!
Jeez, with the hurricanes and the floods and now earthquakes, I’m starting to get a week bit concerned.
Volcano. Don’t forget about the volcano.
Fresno here. Felt both of them pretty good. USGS says they were 5.9 and 4.7 respectively centered in Parkfield which is just north of the Freeway 41/46 interchange (where James Dean died incidentally).
Didn’t feel a thing, but I’m up in Hercules, north bay area.
Looks like there were a few aftershocks as well.
Whew! Now that was a wild ride. Very rolly over here in the peninsula.
My earthquake detectors* in Santa Clara near the 101 didn’t detect anything.
*free standing ring-wraith figures, when one falls over I usual blame a small quake or passing shield maiden of Gondor.
There have been close to 20 aftershocks so far, some of them as large as 4’s.
Actually, when people ask me what the numbers on the Richter scale work out to in real life, I tell them that anything up to three feels like a snowplow driving by your house, and at four things start falling over on the shelves. Just thought you’d appreciate the validation for your finely-tuned technical device.
I work in Pleasanton and I felt it–just kind of a mild (but long) rolly motion that made the hanging light fixtures sway a bit.
Didn’t feel a thing. I’m pretty far north though.
Definitely felt it here. My cat was oblivious to it. “Hey you dumb cat, weren’t you supposed to warn me or something??”
On the 5th floor of my building in Pomona, which is approx. 20 miles east of Los Angeles. We swayed for a good 30 seconds.
Marin County checking in - didn’t feel a thing.
Hurricanes galore, now an earthquake… Jesus, what next?
Hope everyone is ok.
Here in Sacramento, in a single-story building, we felt absolutely nothing. A coworker in Oakland said they felt a pretty good jolt in their sixth-floor office.
