Election Day [Week][Month[s]] [Year] 2020 follow-along thread

The most recent I saw in Georgia was that Trump’s lead is down to 17K with 98% counted. Do any of you all have any better figures as far as how many actual uncounted ballots remain?

ETA. And North Carolina and Alaska have yet to be called for Trump, at least by CNN. There isn’t any chance Biden can actually take either one of those, correct?

I am seeing Trump up 49.6% to 49.2% with 96% reported from the NYTimes site but they may be behind.

YMMV

NC seems a stretch and I would be super shocked if Biden took Alaska. At least Alaska is by far the smallest electoral prize left.

I honestly do not know what is left to be done.

There has been no shortage of people writing/speaking on what is going on. No shortage of honest attempts to try to explain various issues. No shortage of attempts to meet them part way (see: Obama). Yet they keep sprinting in the opposite direction and flatly refuse honest debate and utterly refuse compromise.

I am not sure why you think the liberals are the ones who need to to more here.

Another choice example is Don McLeroy, the creationist dentist Governor Rick Perry appointed chairman of the Texas Board of Education who in 2009 famously opined, “Someone has to stand up to these experts!”

:woman_facepalming:t4:

It’s not the Electoral College as much as states refusing to have proportional voting. At least two states make the attempt.

The house is controlled by the Democrats and with the election results so far, it still will be - why do you think Chump would win if it went to the House?

I somehow wasn’t expecting to find the exact same map this morning as when I pried myself away from the computer last night.

I guess all the remaining states let their vote counters also go get some sleep, and didn’t bring a replacement shift in?

Happens all the time.

It’s not limited to any one field or group. It’s extremely common for people to think that whatever work they don’t themselves do is easier than their own, requires less brains than their own, and could, of course, be done better by themselves except that they’re doing something more important.

Because such people often make nonsensical suggestions about how work should be done outside their own fields, many of those who recognize that nonsense assume that they don’t know anything about their own fields, either.

If the House has to vote for the next president each state gets one vote. There are more red states than blue states.

That is one reason for the EC, to prevent a really bad canditate from becoming president. The other reason was that since information travelled much slower back than, it made more sense for the electors to get to decide and vote somewhat independently since they (in theory) would have better and up to date info on the canditates and the generally political, economic and social situation of the country while in DC in person. But certainly THAT is a moot point in this day and age.

I wonder if they are thinking of ways to report the results to avoid mobs gathering outside of vote counting facilities

I dunno…I tend to take experts at their word. That is why I pay for a doctor and a plumber and an auto mechanic and a carpenter and an electrician and a lawyer and so on. I pay them because I know they understand how to do what is needed much, much better than I do.

I wonder if any of these hard working blue collar workers would ever hire Trump to do anything? Let him work for their business. See how that goes for them.

That’s the point. They shit on anyone Trump tells them to shit on. They don’t look at facts and reason and evidence to determine what to believe. So how do you get them to vote for you?

Stacey Abrams will go down in history as master of the political universe if Georgia comes through for Biden. And I will no longer be ashamed of my home state!

Come on, Georgians! I know y’all can do it!

Tens of millions of them did exactly this, and then voted to retain him for another four years.

(I guess you mean hire him to do anything useful.)

ETA: Which I see you clarified while I was replying.

Not everybody does it. Quite a lot of people do have more sense. But it doesn’t take anywhere near everybody doing it for anybody to have it done to them often enough to notice.

Georgia updated. 98% reported and 18k vote difference now. That was a big drop. Maybe Biden will pull ahead.

Pennsy is up to 89% and Trump is up by only 164k now.

Last night I heard on news radio: Google reports increased searches on the following…

“liquor store near me”
“fries near me”
“chinese food near me”

Hopefully this’ll all end soon!

ETA —

Maybe Chick-Fil-A (sp?) is seeing an upsurge in their drive-thru windows.

Related to that, as of about 15 minutes ago: “After saying earlier this AM there are fewer than 25K absentee ballots left, Georgia’s secretary of state has corrected the number to the same count the data shows: About 50K left. That doesn’t include provisionals, military and overseas ballots & ballots that are cured.”

As of about 8 minutes ago CNN reports Georgia with 50K uncounted votes and Biden behind by 17K. He needs to win around 33 to 34 K of those remaining votes, roughly 2/3 of them. I hope he can pull that off.

Some bad math then. 2% of 4,906,489 is more like 100k which is what I was expecting was left.
