This election broke democracy. We need to prosecute 45 and his whole admin into jail, work the margins of potus power without a senate for 2 years, and make the changes the people want. We better be looking at reforms. The only hope I have is demographic. But EC, SCOTUS, need reform NOW.
I just want to give you some kudos for this post. It is rare on this forum to see someone actually admit they have reconsidered their position in view of new facts presented. I admire your willingness to review your positions and make adjustments.
I’m not saying they’re right, and you do have a point about their own outlets by which they can share their story. But maybe that’s not good enough for them. When people think Fox News or Limbaugh, those are viewed as parallel sources of news that exist just to make sure that their worldview is heard for the record. They still take issue with ‘lamestream’ media because they know that the media are still nevertheless skeptical of these outlets.
I am only speculating. I don’t know what the solution is.
Because they are not finished counting yet. In counties that have finished counting, Biden is doing 1.5-2% better than Clinton 2016. Folks are assuming that those trends will continue in these places. Plus the fact that the mail-in vote is coming in hugely in Biden’s favor, and that’s what’s left to count.
Not 100% sure where all the remaining counties are but at least 150k are going to come from that blue corner in the south east which is HEAVILY Biden - like 8/10 votes heavy.
That isn’t quite settled yet. It’s a reach but it’s pretty close. One senate seat in Georgia is going to a runoff and the second senate seat in Georgia is ever so close to a runoff…we’ll see.
As it is, if you add independents to the Dems (which they usually caucus with) and if Biden wins (VP gets tiebreaker vote) the Dems just might…barely…eke one out here.
I know…it is a longshot but a guy can dream.
It’s not a close split. Regardless of the EC, Biden won a lot more votes.
That’s also an issue: the perception that their country is changing and that they should just accept it. From their perspective, though, they didn’t ask for these changes. They didn’t invite 1 million new legal immigrants per year over the last several decades. They didn’t ask to deal with people who don’t speak English as their first language.
That’s just one issue. There’s a lot to unpack here. There’s the whole abortion thing, and the idea that Democrats have abandoned religion and that they mock people with religious values, which has been a bone of contention as long as I can recall.
In other words, hatred and fear of the Other.
The election supervisor there just gave a press conference.
If I understood correctly one reason it’s slow-going is that before a mail-in ballot is counted, they need to make sure that voter did not also vote in person - and there isn’t any one central system.
The vote in Georgia is now amazingly close; Biden is only 14000 votes behind. It is unclear at this time how many votes remain.
A thing is going around the Internet claiming DeKalb rejected 40,000 mail in ballots that voters would be given the opportunity to “Clean,” the term of art for having the vote resolved. However, it’s a hoax; DeKalb reports just 200 such ballots.
Many, many states it is a close split.
NYTimes says the total vote is 50.5% Biden and 47.8% Trump which is still pretty darn close considering the numbers involved.
And I remember you saying that there was no way GA could go blue!
It still is amazing that GA might be bluer than NC and FL, though.
See, that’s where I disagree. I think there are indeed a lot of racists who support Trump, but I think there are those who don’t consciously subscribe to racist ideology but who nevertheless feel more comfortable living in their kind of America and who privately wonder what kind of America they’d have if it were no longer an Anglo-American society. Much of this probably operates on the subconscious level.
That being said, it’s worth noting that there are some non-whites who supported Trump as well. My concern is that in the future, there could be a greater disconnect between the Democrats and blue collar voters of all stripes.
I know, but let’s not lose sight of the fact that this election was not close. A lot more people chose Biden than Trump. So, if we are going to say that it is electorally close, we should point out that that’s not because of partisanship, it’s because of a flaw in our system.
Sweet, thanks for the update!
Correct, electorally it was not close by popular vote. But almost half the voting population supports the clown in chief.
If you are not a racist and support Trump then you are a person supporting an overt racist.
Kinda like, “I am not a fascist but I think Hitler is great!”
Nevada’s top analyst has effectively called the state:
Here’s what 538 is saying about Georgia right now:
Of the estimated 4,970,000 votes cast in GA so far, 2,422,476 went to Biden and 2,436,007 went to Trump. Roughly 50,400 votes remain to be counted. Biden needs to win 63+% of those to win.
But it’s sooooo close, I wonder if overseas/military votes to be counted could play a role?
