The conspiracy theories are already out in full force on FB today. “Everyone I know in Arizona fled California for being too blue and voted Trump! This must be fraud!”
The Ossoff campaign said Thursday that the race was on track to require a runoff. “We are confident that Jon Ossoff’s historic performance in Georgia has forced Senator David Perdue to continue defending his indefensible record of unemployment, disease, and corruption,” Mr. Ossoff’s campaign manager, Ellen Foster, said in a statement.
Mr. Perdue’s campaign manager, Ben Fry, said in a statement that if “overtime is required when all of the votes have been counted, we’re ready, and we will win.”
There will already be one runoff election in Georgia: Senator Kelly Loeffler, a Republican, will face the Rev. Dr. Raphael Warnock, a Democrat.
[ . . . ]
If Democrats were able to win both seats, and if Joseph R. Biden, Jr. wins the presidency, they would have the 50 senators needed to usher through judicial and cabinet appointments, and enact a Democratic agenda.
Because there are ~9,000 military/overseas ballots that were requested and have not yet been returned - they have until Friday to do so. So there is no telling how many of those will come in or not.
No, those are all-caps, normally unhinged tweets from trump. When (ok, if) PA goes blue I imagine his crazy-ass twitter ranting will make those seem mild by comparison. You’ll practically be able to see his Covid-tinged spittle flying off the monitor.
Wait. How does this happen? I could file the same lawsuit I supose, but it is absolutely ridiculous that ANYONE would pay attention to any lawsuit to stop counting votes. This is beyond absurd.
Whether these are still “prominent Republicans” is a matter of opinion, I suppose. But I am having a hard time finding anybody who agrees with the President that isn’t a total sycophant (like Giuliani, Eric Trump, Hannity, Ingraham, Carlson).
ETA: Then again, agreeing that the President won the election last night makes one a bona fide sycophant.
I think that’s the point I was trying make: fear is fear.
I totally agree that the xenophobia is abhorrent, but there are different shades of racism underlying support among Trump voters. Some are irreversibly racist, but I don’t think that’s true for all. But beyond that, there have been times when outright racist people voted for many of the same things that anti-racists voted for, because they were understood to be in the popular interests for working class people regardless of background.
And my theory is, if you can get some racists to vote with non-racists to support policies that benefit everyone, economic conditions improve, and you address some of the economic conditions that exacerbate racial tensions, which are perceptions of scarcity. People tend to be a little - sometimes a lot - less racist if they believe that there’s enough prosperity to go around for everyone. It’s the perception that someone else’s prosperity is a zero-sum type problem that makes Trumpism so potent, and dangerous.
I’m okay with running a campaign that condemns racism but nevertheless speaks to people who have biases and prejudices. I think part of the problem is that there are some progressives or democrats, who aren’t. And you lose potential allies that way.
I don’t believe that Trump thinks for a second that these lawsuits are going to be taken seriously or have any effect on the counting or results. I think he’s rabble rousing the rubes. He’s a dangerous and vindictive idiot who wants to see this spill out as violence on the streets.
A Trump election observer “allegedly” saw a poll worker take ballots that had arrived after the 7pm deadline and mix them with ballots that had been processed but waiting to be counted.
Frankly I believe it’s a load of horseshit, but that’s just me.
Just to give a sense of Biden’s chances in PA… he needs 61% of remaining votes. The latest update saw another 34k votes announced. Biden won 70.3% of these and that’s the lowest percentage of any PA announcement so far today. And yet Philadelphia County, where Biden has 80% of the existing votes, still hasn’t announced its 100k remaining votes. PA is Biden’s.
Probably because the Venn diagram of prominent Republicans and people who aren’t total sycophants leaves exactly zero people to find in the first place.
