GA gap down to 1,267 (per the NYTimes tracker).
I think the pertinent question would be when was the last time there were NO faithless electors, since I feel it’s almost guaranteed there will be some this time around as well.
Trump’s Georgia lead is now down in the triple digits.
Just saw that on CNN. What did they say, was it 660 or so?
Georgia is announcing in really tiny increments now. They are serving the updates up like tapas rather than like big plates of food.
Biden’s deficit is now 665.
Honestly, I’d be stunned if Graham donated a penny. I suspect this is just a ruse to get the rubes to open up their wallets for whatever con Trump intends to pull.
Anyone know how many ballots are left in GA?
Probably about 10,500. But there will be c.15,000 overseas and military votes.
?? Canada has a parliamentary system. The electors for the Prime Minister are the members of the house of reps ??
You’ve never had government loose office on the numbers? Never had members cross the floor at all? Even so, are you sure it’s impossible?
And, you’ve never had members who crossed the floor called ‘faithless’, ‘scabs’ or equivalent? It certainly causes angst in Australia.
Huh? Members might ‘cross the floor’ on legislative stuff, and they might be called all sorts of horrid names, but the specific role of ‘faithless electors’ would be impossible here in Australia too.
What point are you trying to make Melbourne?
It’s really going to be interesting to see what the news outlets that called AZ do when GA tips.
Melbourne, yes, Canada is a Westminster parliament. But there are no electors for the Prime Minister in the House of Commons–the PM is already the leader of the party that gets a majority in the House of Commons. The PM is elected to parliament by the people of his/her riding (and only them), but as leader of the party, will be PM if his or her party get the most seats.
As you know, a Westminster parliamentary government depends on confidence in the government. We have had votes of confidence in the Commons, and the government has lost those votes. We just call another election, in such cases. It doesn’t often happen–in fact, I think that’s happened once in my lifetime–but it is possible.
We have had Commons members cross the floor, but they’re not called anything like “faithless” or “scabs,” except perhaps by people in the local bar who have had too many drinks. They’re simply “floor-crossers,” and while their constituents may not like it, it’s their right to do so, and no member of the House will call them a name if they do.
Too late to edit, but I’ll add: the only “electors” in Canada are the people of Canada. It’s impossible for us to have “faithless electors,” as can happen in the US.
Now the Georgia difference is 463
That doesn’t sound ironic. It sounds undemocratic and fuel for both lawsuits and riots. There are millions of main-in votes being counted throughout the US, hundreds of thousands in Georgia, and the ones that get excluded are the ones from the military? That sounds like it would be a call to arms to right wing gun nuts to start armed demonstrations. If there are counter-protestors, or even just an accident, it’s easy to imagine shots being fired all over the place. Georgia better make damn sure those absentee votes are counted.
Oh snap!
Biden takes the lead in Georgia!!!
It’s not just the military. Plenty of other ballots will and already have been excluded.
Also, that number is the how many ballots were sent out. We don’t know what the typical return rate is.
917 vote lead for Biden in GA. That’s just from one county, plenty more to count still.
Yup. 538 says:
“ According to the Decision Desk, Biden has now taken the lead in Georgia, albeit a narrow one — just 917 votes. However, the state’s presidential race still hasn’t yet been projected by ABC News (or other outlets at this point), and probably won’t be for a while, given that the final margin is likely to be very close.”
