Election Day [Week][Month[s]] [Year] 2020 follow-along thread

Maybe it’s because I’m at a distance but I’m surprised you say the GOP were convinced they’d win. I can see Trump and his ilk convincing themselves with their fanaticism that they’d win, but I always imagine the GOP being a bit more level-headed and were bracing themselves for a wipeout. I thought they were mainly relieved as the results came in, for the Senate, House and State results.

So how severe would the reversal need to be in the various states for Trump to pull this off? Like, are there any metaphors that can help put it into context?

Can’t find the cites, but:

(1) I had heard that there is a US statute that prohibits state legislatures from changing the method of elector selection after the election has occurred.
(2) Saw a comment this morning from one of the Republican leaders in the PA legislature along the lines of “Of course we won’t do that.”

I did! The old one was of a bush I photographed from underneath last autumn, and as an avatar, it looked kind of like a shrub in Hell, so I switched to a photo of the real Nellie Bly.

Sorry for the detour, everyone else.

I was listening to his show an hour ago and he vehemently denied saying he had conceded the election, only that he was talking about what would happen if Trump were to lose. He was also ranting that “Democrat [sic] operatives” were feeding thousands of phony ballots in the states where Biden had gained the last couple of days.

Biden just increased his lead in PA by 981 votes from quite red (Trump+37) Crawford County. 62% for Biden, which seems pretty common for the deeper red counties in PA. Don’t think there are an hidden pockets of red votes out there, Biden’s lead should continue to creep up.

Huge shoutout to my local radio KEXP that has had 4 straight days of Election playlist keeping me sane.

Anybody ny watched “The Boys”. on Netflix? (or is it Prime?) Is so, you’ll know why I ask.

Not interested in such a pointless semantics discussion. I’m happy with the result, and I encourage other Democrats to be happy too. If you want to be unhappy, that’s your business.

I listen to KEXP when I’m in the Seattle office.

What is this happy horseshit?

Reportedly, the Trump campaign in Wisconsin is looking for volunteers to call people in Pennsylvania to send in late absentee ballots. If true, this only makes sense in the Trumpist mindset of “We assume the Democrats are getting late ballots counted so either we’ll get our late ballots counted or we’ll demonstrate that illegal voting is happening by committing it ourselves.”

In reality, any late votes will simply get tossed because the people in charge of validating and counting ballots in PA aren’t fucking idiots.

When does it turn into a stampede?

As soon as the beta monkeys feel confident enough to kick the fallen alpha monkey.

Stillwell has a message for Trump.

In PA and NV, it’s essentially impossible. There is no conceivable set of circumstances where things get reversed.

In GA, it’s the football team needing a TD, onside kick, and FG in the last 2 minutes. It could happen, but it’s really rare. The question in GA are the overseas and provisional ballots.

In AZ, it’s not out of the question, but is looking much less likely after the last batch. I can’t think of a good analogy, but personally I’d be willing to bet on Biden winning with 5:1 odds.

Note that the last two states are not needed to reach 270, so an overall reversal just isn’t possible.

Sports analogy: Quarterback just needs to take a knee for the final 10 seconds. ETA: But the winning team just got the ball back so they need time to switch squads first.

Trump got more votes than any defeated candidate ever. He is literally the biggest loser in US electoral history.

So when are they going to call it? The more piecemeal the announcement is, the more conspiracy theories there will be.
