It is still too soon. Nothing is definite yet, just very likely.
I’m mentally preparing myself for Monday, while hoping to be pleasantly surprised that it’s sooner.
Biden and Harris are going to address the nation at 8pm (et) tonight.
Jeremy Bash — NBC security analyst, who incidentally cut his legal teeth on Gore v Bush — was asked about this last night in the context of comments from Lindsey Graham. His response was that it would violate state law (which stipulates that electors will be chosen based on the vote), Federal law (which stipulates that the method of choosing electors cannot be changed after the election), and the Constitution (for reasons that he did not elaborate). Other than that, he said, it’s a great idea.
The Biden camp is preparing for him and Harris to speak tonight.
I plan to pop a bottle of champagne with dinner.
They’ll call PA and NV tonight, I think. Maybe even AZ, too.
A meta-thread comment, if I may: Is this thread the fastest-growing thread in in the history of the SDMB? It started four days ago and is easily on track to achieve more than a thousand posts/day by the end of today. We’ve had some doozies in the past, but anything to top this?
This may be the least reassuring sports metaphor possible for people from Georgia
Wow, Monday. That will be pretty anticlimactic. And exhausting. Not doubting it though. I was just hoping it would be today.
Maybe the 9/11 thread? That one grew really fast I believe, though a few years before I joined.
I bought a bottle of Proseco last Saturday. “This is for New Year’s,” I told my wife, “Unless anything happens before then that we need to celebrate.”
In my fridge now.
I hope you and your wife enjoy the hell out of it!!
I deffo cannot wait until Monday, sorry. They’re going to have to do better.
“Our voters will never forget you if your men are men and your sheep are scared!”
Well, who is “they”? The networks? Possibly tonight, if Arizona’s results from Maricopa are enough to put the nail in that particular coffin and they get bolder re: NV. Or if the lead in PA grows fast enough. Some desks have already called one or both of those, actually. NV by itself isn’t good enough (nor AZ without NV).
Trump? Never.
Right?! That’s a lot of waiting.
I hope the news outlets/AP call it before Biden speaks.
He’ll be denying it forever. Luckily, he doesn’t get a say.
Hah! I purposely chose something that definitely could happen, because it did fairly recently. I didn’t consider that the Falcons were involved in that.
Why? Just treat it as a Biden victory based on what you know and let the networks cross their t’s and dot their i’s.
There is something to be said for getting a definitive call in PA, NV, and AZ and then having Biden speak in prime-time. That may cause some GOP fence-sitters to put up or shut up re: the “FRAUD!!!” allegations.
It certainly seems like all three of those are callable (in fact, AZ was called on election night by a few outlets).
Could you please clarify your statement? It seems factually incorrect. From Wikipedia: “Members of the Cabinet (except for the vice president) are appointed by the president, subject to confirmation by the Senate”
