Election Day [Week][Month[s]] [Year] 2020 follow-along thread

But “Acting” Secretaries must have been previously Senate confirmed to another position in the Administration. That’s how Chad Wolf was eligible to be acting DHS Secretary, he had been previously confirmed as Deputy Under Secretary or something.

I thought I saw in this thread a PA legislator saying no way in hell they would do that, but I can’t find it online.

My understanding is that the law would have to change in PA to allow an elector swap, and no way would the Dem Governor allow that. But I don’t know how it works in other states, or if there are enough Biden states with Repub Governors to make this a concern.

Your principal shouldn’t have even told you, honestly. I used to want to know everything, but I’ve really grown to appreciate the rare principal who knows when to say “This is some fucking bullshit and I am not even going to trouble MandaJo with it. I will just shut it down myself”.

Some conservatives argue that since the Constitution charges “state legislatures” with determining the manner of appointing electors, that the legislature could appoint its own slate of electors regardless of the will of the Governor. Yes, it is insane, but its the argument they make.

I feel like this is an example of network/cable television doing everything they can and saying anything they can to stretch out the drama to keep people tuned in. To think these “possibilities” he’s laying out could swing it back to Trump is utterly absurd, and Kornacki needs to be taken off the air and hosed down.

He’s not really naked

AZ is really tightening up, 49.9%-48.6% with 6-10% of the vote left to come in. What’s the latest on trump’s chances to pick it off? I know Biden probably doesn’t need it, but it would be nice to see an unbroken line of blue states running west-southwest on the final election map.

Both NPR and Yahoo have AZ as blue. 264 for Biden.

Jfc. This is just never going to end, is it?

Both NPR and Yahoo use the AP.

Well, hopefully that sort of talk falls into the “grasping at straws” category.

Yeah, they do. I’m not seeing it anywhere else, though.

Of course, but that’s been one of the problems all along - the bothsideism of “The President of the United States said something batshit crazy but some random leftie loon also said something crazy, that means they’re all alike SO THERE!”

Can you even begin to imagine if, on this day four years ago, Hillary Clinton or her major surrogates had started talking about getting faithless electors to vote for her?

ETA - I needed some excitement so I took a break from the news to go watch some paint dry.

I can actually imagine her trying behind the scenes, but she would never be dumb enough to talk about it in public.

I’m trying to make the point that the Prime Minister (“The President”) is not elected by the people. He/She is elected by a set of elected electors, called “Members of Parliament”, who are sometimes faithless, leading to a “Change of Government” or even a “loss of confidence”, and a different person becoming Prime Minister (“The President”) than the person they pledged to elect at the time they were standing for election.

Almost exactly the same as faithless electors in the system of electors used by the USA.

Which should not be a surprise. The founding fathers were familiar with the system of representatives electing the Prime Minister, and it was clearly a model for the electoral college.

Contra-wise “direct election” was clearly NOT the model selected by the founding fathers, and as a result, the USA potentially has the same kind of situation as any parliamentary system.

No, the EC is not a standing parliament. It’s delegates sent by a state to directly carry out the will of each state. Just like UN delegates take strict orders from their own countries, the EC delegates take strict orders from their respective states.
