Election Day [Week][Month[s]] [Year] 2020 follow-along thread

But if they turn out to be for DJT, then count them all in!!

After about eight hours of holding a 1000 to 1500 vote lead over Trump, Biden just kicked out a 4000 vote cushion in the state of Georgia.

Gwinnett County finished their final work on absentee ballots, which is what led to that bump.

But, they aren’t quite done yet:

Fuck it-I’m calling this election.
I hereby declare that Biden is President-Elect. Everyone in the household has a glass of port in hand, and a celebratory toast has been made: Bless Biden and Harris, and Fuck Trump!!

Can I substitute rye whiskey for port? If so, I’m right there with you!

I’ll use a Porter instead.

Do bong hits count?

Hell, for this level of celebration, even a shot of Listerine couldn’t ruin the moment!

Yes, you are - this isn’t tightening but loosening. Biden was coming from behind in both states. His margin is steadily increasing in both states, not coming down.

Of course bong hits count!

Balvenie Doublewood for me. I Wish I had sprung for the 17 year last week while I drooled over it like a 10 year old looking at the puppy in the window, but the 12 will have to do.

(full discolsure: I started a couple hours ago as well.)

I’m out of alcohol. :pensive:

Remember-Two 12 year olds equals one 24 year old. Cheers!

It’s too early for drinking here but … congratulations America. I hope. Touch wood.

I’ve got Tawny Port, Double Dead Guy ale and Gentleman Jack. What should I pour in your name, friend?

I’ll take the whiskey. Much obliged.

It should be over soon. Finally!

I believe that if Biden submits qualified cabinet secretaries for confirmation, the Senate should confirm them. If the Senate refuses to confirm them, then that’s an interesting question. I think, without doing any research on the subject, that the Senate review of cabinet appointments is meant to be part of the checks and balances between the branches of government. So appointing a four-year acting secretary would seem to be unconstitutional. However, I think there’s a constitutional obligation for the Senate to evaluate any politician up for confirmation on their merit. Merrick Garland four years ago should have been approved by the Senate, and Amy Barnett last month should have been approved by the Senate, and any cabinet appointments should be approved if they’re deemed up to the job. It would be wrong for the Senate to reject an unqualified cabinet appointment simply because they were nominated by Biden. If it comes to that, then yes, Biden will have no choice but to make four-year acting appointments. I hope the government isn’t in that state.

Hey, I’m having a preparatory Porter right now! I’m not assuming anything yet though.

I’m on board with that. For days now, CNN has been running huge headlines like “Biden approaches 270” and “Biden eyes 270” (that one for at least 24 hours), then “Biden on the brink”, and currently “Biden’s lead grows”. IOW, “we have nothing new to report or project”. Hell, at least Fox News called AZ for Biden and has colored PA, GA, and AZ light blue on their map.

So I’m with you, but having a martini. Fuck this cautionary procrastinating. Cheers! Shortly switching to Merlot for dinner, so more cheers in advance! :grinning:
