I am quite happy to acknowledge my mistake of misspelling your user name iiandyiiii.
I am kinda expecting major networks to make a half-assed call tonight in favor of president-elect Biden. Will be really interesting to see how this plays out in the GOP senate, particularly with two senate seats in Georgia going to a run-off. The odds are that Republicans would be more motivated to vote than Democrats. I would have to think that this would give McConnell some degree of pause in endorsing claims of voter fraud, as he wouldn’t want to incite outrage. Let sleeping Georgia bulldogs lie.
Aren’t Joe & Kamala addressing the country tonight at 8 pm (I’m assuming Eastern time). Can’t really ignore the elephant donkey in the room…
Georgia, depending on the number of each type of outstanding ballot left still makes me nervous. 4000+ is a good number to be up, for sure. Absentee ballots needing to be cured should follow the general absentee trend in favor of Biden. But we don’t know the split of military or provisional ballots. I suspect that military still trend pretty strongly toward Trump. Provisional ballots are from in-person voters, so they may follow the in-person vote leanings of the county they are from.
Biden being up by 4000+ now though gives a much better cushion for some variation there. With that cushion, I suspect there won’t be enough to bring it all the way back to Trump, even if the split of those ballots is in his favor. (Which is not a given, as it likely depends on the amount of each type.)
I’m not sure I understand how, exactly, there would be a legal problem.
Imagine that, in the absence of a Secretary of Commerce, you’re the highest-ranking person at the Department of Commerce; do you think there’s a legal problem in general, or a Constitutional one in particular, if the president personally bosses you around as much as an appointee would? Do you think there’s a problem if the president, in the course of bossing you around, eventually says, hey, you know what? I’m a busy guy; until I tell you otherwise, how about you just let Dave here boss you around as much as you’d let me boss you around?
Dear networks, rather than commenting on how outrageous Newt Gingrich, the Trumps, and other Republicans are for trying to cast doubt on the elections…STOP FUCKING REPORTING WHAT THEY SAY! You’re just amplifying that message.
Delightful little spat over on the Right side of the spectrum
According to CNN
Last week I would’ve thought this was a crazy thought, but I half expect Trump to fire Bill Barr and Chris Wray soon (like on Monday), put Guiliani in as Acting AG and Richard Grennell as Acting Head of the FBI and start arresting people. Joe and Hunter. Hillary. Obama. Random state and local election officials.
I’m just wondering how many Republicans will go all the way with this, should it happen.
There are legislative delegations of administrative power in the creation of the various departments. Some of those delegations of power are to the Secretary, or the Secretary’s designee. So, an “acting Secretary” may not actually have some of those delegated powers.
I read an interesting strategy on Twitter. I believe it was Ady Barkan who posited that Susan Collins has earned the right to retire with the prestige and comfort she should be afforded. Accordingly, Biden should offer her any ambassadorship or cabinet position she would like.
Thank you.
Just for clarification: Am I supposed to be freaking out about the PA provisional ballots, or not?
I may need to tone it down a bit, and I’ll let iiandyiiii make his own judgments on his tone, but I don’t disagree with the question he’s raising. I disagree with his answer. His assertion “that Biden’s apparent Presidential election is a monumental historical achievement” (to quote myself) is a subtopic relevant to the election. People in this thread are discussing their alcohol and marijuana consumption due to the election. Our offshoot may not be more relevant to the subject of the thread, but I’d disagree that it’s any less relevant.
Keep in mind, the supposed 9000 overseas ballots is the maximum number - that’s how many ballots were sent out and haven’t come back. They’ve already counted 17.5K of those, so many (most?) of the remaining ones probably just weren’t returned, or won’t arrive by the deadline (today)
Also, the assumption that active duty military will be strongly for Trump is probably not true.
Funny, I came back after a break from my computer to this post and I’d just poured myself a half a glass of wine. It’s only 1pm here, and I never day drink, but … it’s Friday and my nerves are shot.
::Raises glass::
Thanks for the numbers. Any idea him many uncounted provisional ballots are still out, and how many cured absentee ballots?
On what do you base your assumption about the tendency of the military votes? I just stated my suspicion about it. Do you have anything you are basing your statement on?
15:21 here, and I’ve logged off from work. Looking forward to going out for margaritas. Soon.
You didn’t hear about Sanity Savings Time ?
A poll from this August showed strong support for Trump among veterans, but Biden led slightly among active-duty members.
No idea about other remaining ballots. The GA elections board site isn’t too helpful.
I don’t drink any alcohol (usually) but I might shell out for a bottle today. (Gewurztraminer is my poison of choice.) I did, however, acquire a bag of chocolate chip cookies yesterday, of which I made short work just for this occasion.
Damn, I’m still 100+ posts behind on reading this thread and it’s nigh going faster than I can catch up!
