It’s the damage that was only made possible by the damage that Mitch McConnell did first.
And unlike DJT, Mitch McConnell won his election and will be with us another 6 years, as one of the most powerful people in Washington.
I recall how McConnell was initially called out by Trump. There were some tense moments when it looked like Mitch might fold under that pressure but he didn’t, and he learned to wield power by being himself when being themselves just didn’t work for so many others who tried: Flake, Corker, Romney, Scaramucci, and the list goes on.
I have a perverse respect for what McConnell can do. He understands power better than just about anyone I can recall.
Oh this oughtta be interesting. The dictator’s dilemma: finding someone to replace you whom you can trust not to jail you out of fear or out of pure political expediency.
You need a majority of the Senate to confirm nominations. You need a majority of the Senate to approve changes in federal law (like the vacancies act).
I don’t think Mitch is very healthy. I’m not sure he’ll live 6 more years. It would be funny if he was replaced with a Democrat by the KY governor and it was this that caused the Republicans to lose the majority.
NYT is still showing the Senate at 48-48. Besides the 2 Georgia seats, what are the other 2 outstanding? Based on the responses here I assume it’s a foregone conclusion that these both will go ‘R’, since no one seems to thinks the Dems will control the Senate.
I know there is a separate Senate thread, that is tl;dr and I don’t want to get scolded over there.
