“Patriotism signalling”. It’s meaningless nonsense.
The die-hard talking points seem to be: the media doesn’t decide who wins! (no argument here) It’s not official until states appoint electors! (also true) and until the Electoral College meets!!! Yes, indeed.
But there’s been 100% correlation between popular vote, electoral slate, and EC results since 1876. Nobody seems to be willing to face that.
Err…maybe I misunderstand but Bush and Trump lost the popular vote for their first terms.
Popular vote within each state. The aggregate national popular vote doesn’t matter for the purposes of determining electors.
Not sure if this belongs here, and apologies if it’s been mentioned elsewhere…
In an apparent response to the Trump ‘Make America Great Again’ cap, Joe Biden was photographed wearing a cap that stated ‘We Just Did’, followed by ‘46’.
I laughed so hard at these reports I found the entire press conference on Youtube and downloaded it.
Unfortunately, today I read news about it that wasn’t so funny.
They are referring to one of the witnesses claiming election fraud.
Here’s a good article on the press conference, which attributes the mix-up to garbled telephone communications.
There’s a new tidbit in this article. The Philadelphia Four Seasons Hotel was the party that tweeted the correction after Trump tweeted about his press conference there.
And the sex offender is also a local political kook from New Jersey, even though he claimed to be a disenfranchised PA voter.
And, here’s the latest fraud claim. Apparently a whistleblower saw a Biden-Harris van pull up at the back door of one of the vote counting centers. The doors opened and Democrats started opening ballots with letter openers, changing the votes and resealing them.
They aren’t even pretending that their supporters have brains anymore.
Then there was the woman who claimed her vote was stolen. She went in to vote in person but was told her ballot had already been cast by mail and the signature match verified. She was given an opportunity to sign a legal affidavit stating that she hadn’t submitted the mail-in ballot, and she declined, of course.
But she’s still happily telling the story of her “stolen vote” to anyone that will listen.
Dear God, this election wrap-up is turning into an Escher drawing, isn’t it? My opinion of the opposition wasn’t low enough, it seems.
Goddammit, Daryl, the nation doesn’t want to see your junk, either.
Obviously that guy in the middle is a Democrat operative carrying a sack full of phony ballots.
I love that they use a “Biden-Harris van” to do this. Does the campaign even have vans? Even if they did, wouldn’t you try to use something less conspicuous when committing multiple felonies?
When will GOP bigwigs start saying “Biden won, let’s get on with it”?
I know Mitt Romney did but he’s been semi independent for awhile anyway. Anyone else? Bueller? Bueller? Here’s the thing:
-
THEY KNOW TRUMP LOST. I believe that droolers on the Internet, low information voters, might have been folled into thinking the election was rigged, but Lindsey Graham and Marco Rubio absolutely, positively, one hundred percent understand Trump lost and that no recount will change that. There is no doubt in their minds.

Most of these people do not work for Donald Trump. Senators and Representatives and state governors and legislators don’t answer to Trump, they answer to their constituents. If Trump isn’t President anymore he loses all his influence, so the conclusion one must draw is one of two possibilities:
3A - They would rather overthrow the election results and install Trump than have the democratic republic continue, or
3B - Well, I cannot think of another reason.
I believe Lisa Murkowski has called to congratulate Biden.
I’d like to think that at least a few of them are putting on a show for the Trump militias to keep them from snapping.
Death. Cult.
Trump is the face of the GOP, and he’s worked his cultists up into a motherfucking frenzy over the last four years. Republicans who fail to demonstrate sufficient subservience to him get cut down by him with extreme prejudice.
When everyone’s standing in a circle pointing guns at one another, it’s dangerous to be the first one to step out of the circle.
Unfortunately, I’m not sure that’s true. Trump is still the leader of the Trump cult that is masquerading as the GOP, and GOP politicians need these cultists to continue to vote for them.
I realize Trumpism isn’t going to go away that quickly, but much of its power is the perception of Trump as Strongman. Strongmen fade away quickly when the illusion recedes.
Because they are scared of pissing off the baby.
I’m loving their entreaties. The latest one is telling him he can be a “Kingmaker”. I guess they’re hoping he’ll strut around going “I’m a Kingmaker, I’m a Kingmaker” for a couple of days until he finds out what it means, but thinking that Donald Trump is going to ever put any effort at all into making someone that’s not Donald J Trump famous is delusional.
I am concerned the misinformation bubbles the right are in will become more impenetrable now. Fox News took one on the chin this past week, but they are still going to be widely influential as the opposition network, just as they were during the Obama presidency. But with the emergence of QAnon and other sources of misinformation further to the right, true believers will always have somewhere to go and have their views shared, supported, and reinforced.
IMHO all of us need to push back on misinformation going forward wherever it emerges. I know we’d rather just let it be, but letting people remain ignorant is what got us the past 4 years. Stupid conspiracies and purveyors of this stuff are more dangerous than we could imagine, and they need to be mocked, humiliated, and discredited as much as possible, even if it means uncomfortable conversations with family members (like I had with my brother over the weekend).
There’s always a Beta Dog waiting for the Alpha Dog to falter.
There seem to be two factions in the “base:” the Trumpisti who will follow Dear Leader to the end, and the fascisti who will follow the Duce as long as he has power (and by extension, gives them a sense of having it) but will renounce him as soon as he falls. My Magic 8 Ball says nothing but “Reply hazy, ask again later,” so I have no idea how Trump’s following breaks down or who will attract the latter faction.
I hear a lot of the same folks talking about election fraud also crowing about the Senate and House races where Republicans fared well. Yet nobody is explaining to me how the same ballot that is fraudulent for the presidential election is fine for the Congressional election.
