I note that there is a conservative myth going around that the press was soft on Obama. Maybe that influenced you subconsciously.
Yep. Question: If Trump refused to leave, would they arrest him, or just escort out?
Have him come up a with a list. Things that the Democrats are going to do in the first 3 months of a Biden administration. The first 6 months. The first year. Write them down - put them on your phone. Add to the list every time he comes up with some bullshit thing he thinks is going to happen. (Post them here for all of us to laugh at.) Hold him to it. I have family members that spout out whatever bullshit thing they heard from a buddy, and it’s absurd how deep their echo chamber goes.
I have CNN on right now and they mentioned that Team Trump’s “fraud” claims regarding Arizona currently centers on the military; they’re supposed to interview one of the accused military voters shortly.
Great way to spend Veterans Day: talking on TV about being accused of fraud!
When he thought I’d voted for Biden (I didn’t, I went Libertarian) he said Biden will outlaw the 1st, 2nd, 4th and maybe 9th amendments. I will text him later and get some more predictions.
Does he not understand how amendments work?
ETA: I’m so sick of these “low information” voters. If your claim can be refuted by a simple google search, maybe don’t bother.
For the record: the President of the United States completely lacks the ability to do this. Like, at all. Constitutional amendments can be added (or effectively removed by the adoption of a new amendment which cancels the earlier amendment), but it is a very, very difficult and complex process, and requires the ratification of 2/3 of both the House and Senate, as well as 3/4 of the states.
“All Trump fans and loyalists: Please report to the nearest re-education camp for your deprogramming. Leave your belongings behind. You will be provided food and shelter. You will not have access to any news source or social media, and will be required to repeat your High School history and civics courses. Once your mind is cleared and reality re-installed, you will be allowed back to civilization.”
Interesting that the other complaint about Biden is that he was in gov’t for 47 years and accomplished nothing. Now, he’s going to suspend the Bill of Rights?
I’m holding my presser at the airport we’ve requisitioned for the project in Texas, Killeen Field.
It’s true that Trump faced some brutal grillings from the press. Remember this brain-breaker: What would you do in a second term? Who the heck could answer that? Or the equally inscrutable and viciously difficult poser about the pandemic: What do you say to Americans who are watching you right now and are scared? Surely anyone would also insult the reporter for asking such an abominable question. Trump’s fragility is unprecedented.
Obama took on Bill O’Reilly before and after becoming president. Can you imagine Trump going toe-to-toe with a hyper-partisan like Rachel Maddow, or even Anderson Cooper?
NV, not AZ; I heard wrong the first time.
Best use of your pet phrase in years.
That’s exactly what I was going to suggest.
Part of the reason Trump was successful at bamboozling so many for so long was that our collective memories have become so short - he could always get away with saying, “I’ll provide proof next week” because by the time next week rolled around, everyone had gotten distracted by something else.
What we need to do is get predictions in writing (hell, I’m fine with doing it on the left as well) with a time-frame and then go back to the prognosticators - “See? You were worried that six months into the administration we’d have gulags, but that hasn’t happened.” Instead, people have moved on to the newest insanity and no one even remembers what they said a few months earlier.
Would it help? I dunno. But it is very frustrating that people can spout crazy shit and not be held accountable. (Again, that applies to everyone, not just right wing nuts, though naturally it is my perception that the right is fuller of outrageously unlikely predictions of doom and gloom than the left is.)
I knew someone (dead now) who was very liberal, very much in favor of getting more people to vote, improving access to voting, etc.
He used to muse about whether it might be beneficial to have a short, open book test before you could vote. So the answers would be provided – you’d just have to read them, and then select the right one.
Of course he would always conclude that it couldn’t be done because it would have the effect of disfranchising people, and it would likely have a disparate impact on marginalized groups, etc.
I muse about it sometimes, too. About whether there could be a fair version, maybe where reading would not be required – watch this short video of basic information about how our political system works, for each section, it will pause, and you’ll need to answer a question about what you just heard. (OK, there would still be people unfairly screened out. But I like to muse about it.). So, like, a question might be, can the president alone cancel or stop the First Amendment? Right after it’s been explained that the constitution is the supreme law of the land, and even presidents can’t change it. It can only be changed by 2/3 of congress plus 3/4 of states.
Cable? Huh? All of this would have been on the major networks. And in major newspapers.
Yes. It’s perhaps odd that new, naturalized citizens do have to pass a test just like this one, but not native born ones. It’s like how adoptive parents have to prove their fitness in so many ways, but biological parents don’t have to do dick. (Or better, dick is all they have to do!)
Yabbut … previously Biden was only a senator and VP. Now he’s going to declare himself Dictator for Life and suspend the Constitution. I know Obama was supposed to do that, but he apparently forgot.
Of course, all of that is contingent on being able to get the present Great Patriotic Flag-Humper and Greatest President in History™ the hell out of the White House on Jan 20, which he is currently refusing to do, because the election was Very Unfair.
True. My mom is a naturalized citizen who is very smart, and well-informed. She had to study before the test, although afterward, if I remember correctly, she thought it wasn’t quite as hard as she expected. But what proportion of people would be able to name the president pro-tem of the senate?
Hint: It’s not Mitch Mcconnell
Heck, Obama once took on the entire House GOP at their invitation, with an hour of televised Q&A. He did so well that (at least according to reports), GOP aides admitted that letting cameras in the room was a mistake.
