Election Day [Week][Month[s]] [Year] 2020 follow-along thread

The very slowness of this process, though, is encouraged by the long lead times.

Oh wow. I’d forgotten about that. That cite should be the only response necessary to anyone saying Obama never faced tough questions.

No wonder they hated that uppity, too-big-for-his-britches, Black, Hahvahd grad, Law Review, Kenyan, Muslim, non-citizen. He made them feel stupid.

I remember watching it the first time and just being like "dude is straight up enjoying this. "

I don’t think they invited him back.

The gap between election and inauguration is necessary for the transition - giving the incoming administration time to get everything up to speed so things can run smoothly starting inauguration day. The time as it is is barely sufficient even when transition starts the day after the election; I’ve heard reasonable arguments that a contributing factor to 9/11 was the the Bush administration didn’t get up to speed fast enough since the transition was delayed until Bush v. Gore was decided.

Fortunately we elected the only person who has spent enough time inside an administration (except maybe Al Gore and the cyborg Disk Cheney) to be able to handle a transition that will start late due to the willful malfeasance of the outgoing administration.

I hope so.
I love goulash!

Rudy’s going to have a major press conference at the Waldorf-Astoria - Ooops…correction, it’s going to be at the Walmart in Astoria.

Quick, google ‘loser.com’, pretty funny!

shudders

Speaking of low-information voters: my MAGAt Facebook friend is posting happily today that Alaska and North Carolina have “flipped” for Trump.

This is oblivious to (a) that those states have been shaded in pink since Election Night and (b) “nuh uh! elections aren’t final until the state legislature certifies it and appoints electors!!”

I just watched a little at a random spot (around the 57 minute mark maybe?) and they asked if he could take (paraphrasing) two more questions, if his schedule permits. He straight up said, “I’m having fun!” and was clearly comfortable and not looking to get out of it.

Watching that, I miss him so much.

I do feel like this is the biggest underreported outcome from the election. What makes the Republican’s advantage going into a redistricting year so daunting is the enormous amount of data and precision software now available to Congressional mapmakers to craft maps that will maximize and entrench Republican districts.

There’s a tension in a good gerrymander – to maximize their districts, Republicans will want to spread their voters around so that they have a significant, but not overwhelming, majority in as many districts as possible. And then pack Democratic voters into a few, overwhelmingly Democratic districts. The risk is that you can miscalculate and not give yourself enough of an edge in your districts to withstand a shift in voter preferences or changing demographics in the district.

But the data and tools available to Congressional mapmakers now allow them to draw lines with laser-like precision to account for variances in voting histories, expected demographic changes in the district, etc. The result will be districts that are much more likely to vote and stay Republican for the next decade.

He was the epitome of cool and grace under fire. No wonder big fat ignorant loser DJT hates his guts. I keep imagining the look on Don the Tub O’ Lard’s face when those pictures came out of lean, trim, strong Obama surfing.

They’re gonna go find Sloth and put him in charge of Covid policy.

Love it!

Probably would go like this -

Secret Service agents or Federal Marshalls: Okay Mr. Trump, you’ve had plenty of time to get your things together. President Biden has been sworn in and will be here shortly. Ms. Trump and Barron are outside in the car. We can do this the easy way and you can walk out of here or we can do this the hard way. Your choice.

Safe to say that Melania and Barron most definitely are not waiting outside in any scenario.

Look, Trump hates the White House, hates the job, will hate being reminded of it once it’s undeniably clear that he has no hope of hanging on. There won’t be an eviction.

Don’t get me wrong, I would absolutely cherish a cell extraction video starring at least one Trump. But I feel like our bigger concern is how much will he steal/ruin on the way out the door.

This thread already has over 5500 posts in just 11 days, which must be some kind of record here. That said, I haven’t read any of it. I have a question that may only be relevant today:

Why have they called Arizona, but not Georgia or North Carolina. Especially NC, which has 99% of votes (or is it precincts?) reported, and a 1.4% margin for the soon-to-be-former Pres. Arizona and Georgia both show 99% reported, and both show a 0.3% lead for Biden,

My source is apparently Associated Press via Google here. It’s supposed to be live and was just updated.

I understand that the Republicans are doing their damnedest to delay the call in Georgia until after the Senate runoffs, but that won’t happen until January I believe, and anyway what influence do they have over AP and this “calling” process?

If you’re going to answer any of this, please Reply to this message so I get notified. I really don’t want to wade through all this to find this out. Thanks.

Georgia will perform a hand-counted audit (i.e.: recount) of all ballots regarding the presidential race. Everyone is presumably waiting for the results of that, which should take a couple of weeks. Not including the inevitable second – automated – recount demanded by Team Trump.

I’ll bet he goes down to Mar-a-Lago at some point and never goes back to DC. Has Melania or a peon deal with the movers.
