Election Day [Week][Month[s]] [Year] 2020 follow-along thread

You are right but it does show their where their collective ideological ground lies which is a useful datapoint.

Indeed there is. But even if he doesn’t run, he’ll still have a lot of MAGAheads adoring him, and the entire GOP 2024 field will, I bet, feel compelled to kiss his ass, er, ring lest he unleash a tweetstorm against them.

I imagine the GOP will do its best to turn him into a kind of gilded elder statesman - giving him enough to room to bloviate that he feels heard, letting him endorse candidates who were going to win anyway, and generally trying to keep him from creating a vindicate splinter party.

A lot of them are no doubt hoping he spends the next four years in jail.

How in hell should that work? There are politicians who were abrasive, even rebellious in their time who turned into calm and wise elder statesmen, but how would you turn an eternal man-child who only works on his petty impulses into one?

My observation didn’t cone from a place of sympathy. I do, however, get a great deal of satisfaction out of realizing he’s made a prison for himself inside his head that’s worse than anywhere we could put him.

I am somewhat disturbed by how “unprepared” the Republican Party and Trump were for a Biden victory, we outvoted all their suppression and gerrymandering and other cheats. I’m starting think we’re going to find some real blatantly corrupt shit when we start reviewing the books, whistleblowers have hinted at it.

Agreed. I don’t even think it’s funny to joke about this. Or at least wait until after January 20th.

I always seem to hear about his fear of arrest and him using the presidency to stay out of prison. I even read today he is personally afraid of being arrested.

Now, I know he owes at least $400 million that is due soon, but what do people anticipate he will be arrested for? Are figuring Biden’s people will find everything that has been unprosecuted or uninvestigated?

Or is there a specific list of things we figure he’ll be arrested for?

My guess would have been he gets away with everything.

From the Washington Post newsletter that I receive via email:

Billionaire industrialist Charles Koch expressed hope that President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris will roll back President Trump’s tariffs, restore protections for “Dreamers” and enact policing reform that addresses systemic racism.

Wait, what?

Koch network plans for life after Trump following Joe Biden’s victory

The Koch network has had a mixed relationship with the Trump administration. They cheered for Trump’s tax cuts, business deregulation, push for criminal justice reform and his nominees to the Supreme Court. They fought against his implementation of tariffs and the way he treated those participating in the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA, program.

Biden’s people will have nothing to do with it if he pardons himself. I’m betting on tax fraud in the state of New York.

And I’m glad to be living in Connecticut.

Thread: Legal peril faced by Trump after he leaves office

FYI:

I am willing to bet it is these states telling them to write a check that is stopping them.

How is that? For 4 years, they’ve been eager to whore themselves to his crude bombast, overlooking countless instances of behavior which is - at the least - unethical. Meanwhile, they were able to pursue the policies they wished. They’ve shown little interest in governing responsibly WRT the entire nation. Their main attitude towards the Dems has been obstruction.

After the election, they are likely to still control the Senate, and have a REALLY favorable judiciary. I don’t see how their relative silence as he flails about for another 2 months shows a lack of prep - or anything tremendously different from the past 4 years.

Some campaign spokesperson just said on the news that Trump has said that if Biden is truly confirmed as the winner when the election is certified (isn’t that on Nov 20th?) that he will then announce is bid for 2024.

Sorry I don’t have a link, it caught me off-guard and was on over-the-air TV (my local NBC affiliate airing some national segment) so I don’t have any way to prove this.

But we’ve all suspected it.

I believe Trump hated the actual gig of being President but loves the power and attention, and this is a great way to keep holding rallies, which–lets’ be real, is the only part of this he really loved.

So I am seeing rational Cons who grow weary of his rhetoric, who voted for Biden but went R down ballot. I also see (personally, in real relationships) die-hard Red Hatters who think they are being brave by posting fake electoral maps pretending Trump won on Facebook…I presume they’ll hang on to him until the bitter end.

I’m watching all this with a bit of glee. I foresee a fractured and out of sync GOP, where some people now consider FOX the MSM and the enemy…

ETA: It’s also a way for him to keep bilking money from his idiot followers, which sadly includes my family.

I would like him to pass out of Earth’s orbit.

The gilded part certainly fits. Come to think of it, so does elder. Not statesman, however. No way. Not even close.

Not on facebook, Parler. These Trumpers needed a safe space that wouldn’t censor(fact-check) them, so they are moving to their own private little social media island.

And they are welcome to it. Let them fester there to their tiny little hearts’ content.

Yeah, the trick the GOP faces is making Trump feel like he’s important and revered without letting him careen too far to one side (burning everything down with his rhetoric) or the other (realizing that he’s a laughingstock and nobody in power gives a shit about what he has to say).

For what it’s worth: Biden’s lead in Arizona has just surpassed the number of votes left after a dump of 8,000 counted votes. His lead is 10,988 and there are only 7,964 ballots left to count.
