Election Day [Week][Month[s]] [Year] 2020 follow-along thread

Electoral College votes December 14.

So, can we look at her veep-hood as an insurance policy against a Proud Boy trying to take out Joe?
(“Wait a minute, Bubba. You don’t want to make a brown woman president.” “That how it work? Reckon I shoulda paid attention in civics class…”)

I agree republicans have no shame when it comes to dirty tricks and will pull every bullshit maneuver they possibly can but presidential succession is pretty solid. If Biden can’t continue being president for whatever reason Harris gets it. Simple as that. Everyone knows it too.

If she can’t then Pelosi gets it and I am willing to bet most republicans would rather see Harris as president than Pelosi.

While Pelosi becoming president would mean something awful has happened to Biden and Harris and I DO NOT want that to happen there’s a little part of me that would like to see republican heads explode with President Pelosi.

Yes, and he’s potentially hurting the entire country, as well.

George W. Bush’s 2000 transition was delayed due to the recount (and accompanying lawsuits) in Florida. That delay appears to have hampered the incoming Bush administration’s response to what became the 9/11 attacks.

The NY Times has just announced that North Carolina and Georgia have been called, for Trump and Biden respectively. (The article does not say precisely who made the call.)

So I guess this means Election Day is over? (well, except for that annoying electoral college stuff) and now it’s all about the transition, which is fraught with its own difficulties.

Looks like Biden got his own 306 EVs this time.

The landslide will bring it down…

Chairman of joint chiefs said today US soldiers , sailors, airmen, marines, "Don’t take an oath for a tyrant or dictator. "

Link please? What was the context. It sounds anti-Trump, was it?

Was it this:
https://www.cnn.com/2020/11/12/politics/mark-milley-pentagon-turmoil/index.html

“We are unique among militaries. We do not take an oath to a king or a queen, a tyrant or a dictator. We do not take an oath to an individual. No, we do not take an oath to a country, a tribe or religion. We take an oath to the Constitution. And every soldier that is represented in this museum, every sailor, airman, Marine, Coast Guardsman, each of us will protect and defend that document, regardless of personal price,” Milley said during remarks at the opening of the US Army’s museum.

Outstanding. I salute him.

One of the issues is they are pretending to think that poll watchers get to run around looking over people’s shoulders when they vote.
These affidavits are bullshit. Even a TV judge would laugh them out of court. Judges need to cross examine and ask questions. They are just for show, something the trolls can wave around.

I can prove it right now, here is a challenge for you. One of the affidavits contained the following claim
“I overheard my supervisor and another employee talking about backdating the postmark ballots received on the fourth”.

Now, pretend you told that lie. Try to describe that conversation, word for word . Tell me exactly what person 1 said and what person 2 said.

Make up a believable conversation. I bet you can’t. I know I couldn’t cover that lie.

I posted a little while ago that NBC, Politico and CNN had announced it, so presumably one of them.

You know, I’m kind of warming to the idea of Trump conceding hand-in-hand with announcing a run for 2024. The plusses are:

  • It may be just what is needed to get him to concede. By combining concession with announcement of a 2024 run, he can, in his own mind, save face. And since he loves campaigning far more than he loves actually working, it must be a tempting thought for him.

  • We can go back to Trump as entertainment rather than Trump as dangerous, powerful defiler of our nation.

Of course, there may be negatives as well. If he manages to run a highly visible, well-supported campaign, he’ll encourage even more division in our country and he’ll embolden the worst behaviors of Republicans. And then, of course, there is the terrifying possibility he could actually win again. There are not enough “eek” emojis in the entire universe for that.

But, it’s a risk I might be willing to take. To win in 2024, he needs sustained money, energy, health, hard work, and successful outcome of all the lawsuits against him (whether due to pardons, charges being dropped, or winning). I’m not convinced he can marshal all of those elements for four full years.

Too bad he didn’t remember that before marching through Lafayette Park with President Tinpot.

I don’t think he’ll concede. He may stop at some point, even admitting Biden will be “fake president” or something, but he will not admit he lost.

If Jimmy Carter dies in the next four years, any chance Trump attends with the other former presidents(+Biden)?

I agree.

Nope.

Trump is going to talk to reporters in a few minutes (4:00 PM EST). This oughta be good.

I want you to count the attendees and report. If you run out of fingers, use your toes. That should be enough.

I just watched a video of my cousin’s son swearing in to the Army National Guard. In his oath he swears to “obey the orders of the President of the United States” and it made me feel sick. Super proud of the kid, got no problem with him joining up. It just hit home who “The President of the United States” is. Ugh. Only 2 more months…

Yeah, I worded my post in a way that was too biased toward my own interpretation. I agree that words like “loss” and “concede” will not appear, except in the context of “they made it look like I lost when I really won, so I’m going to focus my energy on the future.” Or something.

A couple that I’ve heard/read about: a poll worker was wearing a Black Lives Matter shirt, which the woman who filed the affidavit found “intimidating;” and a poll watcher who was monitoring military ballots thought the Democrat got too many.
