Election Day [Week][Month[s]] [Year] 2020 follow-along thread

Nope.

Do you really think enough of us would protest or physically fight? Or that it would make a difference? I’m not sure.

Yes, I do.

I hereby deputize Snowboarder Bo to physically fight on my behalf.

I’ll be right behind ya, Bo … sitting down with a good book and a coffee.

For those that can’t stand to listen to Rudy, just know that right now he is reading from an affidavit in a suit that has already been dismissed. The judge in that case ruled that: “[p]laintiffs’ interpretation of events is incorrect and not credible”.

ETA: And now the “I have 100 more of these, but I can’t show them to you”.

I find his presentation quite mooooving.

I think there are still some Trumpists who really do not consider themselves racists and really do not want to be thought as such. They manage to pretend that their opposition is something other than racist.

I think they are fooling themselves but maybe there is a way to reach such people. (Dunno…I can only hope.)

With Rudy there, the field literally covered in bullshit isn’t even the most bullshit-filled thing in that picture.

Maybe, but those voters have made excuses for the other deplorable shit Trump and his ilk have done and said, and they’ve still voted for Trump and Republicans, because of…judges and God and guns and stuff. I don’t think that would change even if the n-word was part of the party platform. They would still bend over backward to find an excuse to vote Republican.

So Trump didn’t really win in 2016? Fascinating.

That suits me. Let’s just cancel his whole so-called administration.

Thanks. This was really helpful.

That appears to be the strategy. The proper response to allegations like Rudy’s would be “see you in court - bring your evidence”. But we’re past that – all their lawsuits have been dropped or thrown out (accompanied by laughter). The plan now is to just bully state legislators into appointing Trump electors.

He can’t get in through a Supreme Court decision? tell me he can’t.

I just found the Rudy & Sidney’s presser; is that what you’re watching?

Is Rudy trying to conduct a sort of trial in front of the cameras here?

What is the purpose of the presser, anyway? I’m not seeing a lot of reporting about it. Not sure if it’s just more misinformation intended to cause chaos or if they really think they have some “gotcha” that will mow down all their detractors and give trump the win.

It wouldn’t necessarily go to the Court; it would go to the Congress for a vote - and yes, there’s a non-zero chance of it succeeding.

Another possibility: Republicans in key states vote to send their own slates of electors to the official vote count. The officially state-certified electors are the ones that should count, and constitutionally, the ones that would count. But suppose between now and then there is a somewhat coordinated and amplified messaging effort to claim that these alternate electors are legitimate because “vote fraud” and “communist democrat scum”. And then you have the official electors being counted while the Trumpists scream bloody murder that their votes aren’t being counted - never mind the fact that the really shouldn’t be, but MAGA claims they should. And the GOP senate and other allies of course do not a damn thing to step in and quell the furor.

Trump then tells his MAGA army to stop standing down and encourages them to take to the streets to stop this great election heist. Democrats, journalists, officials responsible for counting and certifying elections processes get threatened and harassed. Trump, still very much the constitutionally-recognized commander in chief until January 20, 2021, waits for any opportunity to set his law enforcement and military dogs loose on counter-protestors.

Again, folks, democracy can’t rely on constitutions; it relies on people cooperating with each other even when they disagree with each other’s worldview. With each passing day that Republicans sit back and fail to challenge Trump’s assault on democracy as we know it, we are witnessing a massive transformation of how one half of the country views the American government. This is something you can’t just put back into the bottle.

Thanks for this. I will try it next time.

True. It would only go to the Supreme Court if lower court rulings are appealed, and Trump apparently has no interest in pursuing legal remedies any longer. His strategy now is to get compliant state legislatures to appoint Trump elector slates.

If the election hung in the balance of one state going rogue (like Florida, 2000) and we were waiting breathlessly to see what happens in Michigan, I would be extremely worried. But Trump would need to flip 3 or 4 states this way, and I believe those states have said that ain’t happening.

So Trump has no hope of staying in office – he’s merely subverting all our democratic and constitutional norms on the way out.
