Election Day [Week][Month[s]] [Year] 2020 follow-along thread

It occurs to me that if Republicans think the election has been stolen they must be thinking what is to stop the Democrats from stealing the runoff elections in Georgia? And bearing in mind that they think Democrats have an invisible and foolproof way to cheat (that Trump somehow didn’t think of first), what is the point of going out to vote when you’re up against all these fake and/or dead Democrats who can sneak ballots in at the last second and/or after the deadline? If you “know” the game is rigged, do you play anyway? It will be interesting to see.

According to one of those web sites that tracks these things, “Current Resident” is one of the most popular persons’ names in the United States.

This is rich, being in Georgia, where Stacey Abrams so blatantly and obviously (and so easily) (nearly) stole the election for Governor. So amazing that Kemp managed to be honestly elected despite all that!

No; Kemp and Raff are both in on it.

Very generally, a litigant can take an appeal to an intermediate appellate court as of right. That is, for most cases, if you file an appeal with the next court above the trial court, and you’ve followed the rules for an appeal, you’ll be entitled to have the court of appeals decide it. It’s not discretionary – intermediate courts generally don’t get to decide which cases to take. Again, very generally, only supreme courts have discretion to decide which cases to hear.

But, as noted, if the trial court’s judgment is not stayed, and the election results are certified, the case will likely become moot. Whether a stay is granted can depend in part on your likelihood of prevailing. If there’s enough time for expedited briefing, there could also just be a very swift decision.

So true!
It’s like passing the event horizon approaching a black hole, getting stretched very thin as time dilates for the victims.

I thought the tump campaign had to pay for the recount. And the funds were requested in advance. Am I off-base on this?

Yes, “Current” as a unisex first name is pushing the formerly-fave, gender-specific Jason, Emily, Ethan, Charlotte out of the top spots. I think we’re going to see a trend toward neutral, culturally and ethnically baggage-free baby names in the future. Look for kids named Table, Apple, Carpet, and for the whimsically inclined, Kibble, Postage Stamp, Casserole. The possibilities are endless. [/weird tangent]

That is Wisconsin. In GA it is paid by the state.

Republicans are leaning towards names like person, woman, man, camera, TV

I keep getting phone calls from somebody name “Spam Risk”. Parents must have been Monty Python fans.

Each state has different rules. Wisconsin requires the candidate to pay for the recount, which the Trump campaign has done. Georgia apparently doesn’t.

Oh. Ok.

Names that Der Trumpenstiltskin has proved he can remember.

That’s the good news; the bad news is that Trump will inevitably become more desperate, and as he does, he will force the Republicans to publicly take a stand and confront him. So far, few have been willing to do that.

Each time he pushes boundaries and each time the Republicans avoid challenging him, he essentially creates new boundaries and establishes new precedents - precedents that will be remembered by Trump’s ghosts who will remain even after he makes his exit.

We’re fortunate that Donald Trump is a little too much like Sonny Corleone, sometimes too hotheaded for his own good. The next wannabe dictator may be a lot less like Sonny Corleone…and a lot more like Michael.

And even the few who’ve done so - like James Lankford - haven’t really created a whole metric shit-ton of traction.

Heh - slummin, there, Jimbo? (Re: the bolded)

Right - thanks for “stepping in”, then.

ETA: - Heh, more like, “on it”?

Their voters, are Trump’s voters. It is the Trump party, not the Republican party.

Period.

No kidding, which makes it such a feeble, transparent joke with “stepping in” gestures.

There has to be more noise generated from all this toxic feet-dragging, like from (D. - La.) Rep. Cedric Richmond, a couple hours ago.

He shouldn’t be surprised, though, about Trump’s hold over his party - he should be aware that Trump’s base holds things “in check”.
Regardless, more D., more, well, everybody, has to start seriously pushing pack on all this horseshit so that a certain someone won’t be looking at a certain visit from US Marshalls on Jan. 21. Or:

Yes, in fact the Dems packed every state legislature, now has 70 seats in the Senate and has a 66% majority in the House. :smiling_imp: :poop:

Among Republicans, Kompromat will become a very popular name.

(ETA: And when did “Sidney” become a girl’s name? As in Sidney Powell, one of Trump’s lawyers.)

As my grandma liked to say, even a stopped clock is right twice a day: Chris Christie calls Trump legal team a 'national embarrassment' [Video]

Biden’s on record as saying that the United States government is perfectly capable of escorting trespassers out of the White House. So I expect he’d have the appetite, all right.

I doubt Trump will let it come to that. I expect he’ll go “on vacation” and just kind of happen not to be there on January 20.

I can tell you that just yesterday, I spoke with a lady named Sidney who is in her early 60s.

He will host a rally as a counter-inauguration. I bet he even gets sworn in again.
