It seems that way, but until the electoral college votes are actually cast and tabulated, I’m still a tiny bit nervous. There’s still the partial recount going on in Wisconsin (where Trump’s observers seem to be trying their hardest to get the votes from Dane and Milwaukee counties somehow invalidated), and maybe another recount in Georgia, but Biden would be well over 270 electoral votes even without those two states.
You forgot the most important part - continue to fundraise to support his legal efforts. As of today 75% of all donations go to his new PAC, but I’m sure that number will continue to go up.
Here’s the actual letter to Biden. She specifically claims Trump & the WH had no influence on her decision:
Please know that I came to my decision independently, based on the law and available facts. I was never directly or indirectly pressured by any Executive Branch official—including those who work at the White House or GSA—with regard to the substance or timing of my decision.
Of course she also said:
I did, however, receive threats online, by phone, and by mail directed at my safety, my family, my staff, and even my pets in an effort to coerce me into making this determination prematurely. Even in the face of thousands of threats, I always remained committed to upholding the law.
I’m sure she didn’t receive a single threat online, by phone, or by mail from anyone demanding she never authorize the transition.
Oh, I think she probably did. These days anyone who sticks their head above the crowd for any reason gets threats of some kind from somebody. And she REALLY stuck her neck out. (She didn’t need to, but for her own reasons, she did.)
While I don’t agree with people making threats, I hope she was really really scared. I hope she’s still terrified. I’m tired of all this lawless invincibility.
I think mulfoonthief was being sarcastic. As if to say, Emily chose to publicly mention receiving threats from Democrats, while obscuring the fact that she also received threats from Republicans.
I’m sure there will be objections to the electoral votes from PA, MI, WI, GA and AZ when Congress meets in joint session count the EVs in January. It only requires one Representative and one Senator to object. But it won’t make a difference — both chambers have to vote to sustain the objection or else the state-certified electors stand.
I think this is wrong. According to reports I’ve read she tried to be very deliberate in her actions and she reached out to a few involved in the 2000 crisis (including Democrats) for advice and feedback. While I disagree with her delay I believe it was made in good faith. Nobody should be scared for behaving in good faith even if it’s incorrect.
Funny that the only people calling her “professional” and “non-partisan” are anonymous sources. And those calling her a Trumpist hack are willing to put their names on it.
“I told her, ‘I’m looking at you and I can tell you want to do the right thing,’” recalled Barram, who declined to reveal any details of what Murphy told him. “I’ll tell you what my mother told me: ‘If you do the right thing, then all you have to do is live with the consequences of it.’”
