Election Day [Week][Month[s]] [Year] 2020 follow-along thread

Not new. Thankfully, most GOP state legislators (including in Pennsylvania) have repeatedly rebuffed this particular tactic.

At least now we know why state and local governments were fighting not to turn over all of the footage from the security cameras to the legal teams. Apparently the new tactic will be to take out and splice together various parts of regular ballot-processing activity from that footage, add a nefarious voice over that has little relation to what is actually happen (“suitcases full of ballots” “counted after everybody had gone home”), and then claim it’s “bulletproof” evidence of fraud.

The key, of course, is to only use this tactic in press conferences and state legislative “hearings”, not in actual court where you have to prove that your description of events is accurate.

Based on right-wing message board and Facebook/Twitter types, they seem to be getting at least some traction with this new approach.

The Trump campaign has now announced that they have raised $207.5 MILLION in campaign contributions since Election Day. This has been on the back of almost 500 fundraising pitches to donors claiming that the funds are desperately needed to overturn the stolen election. But the fine print shows that 75% of all donations go directly into a leadership PAC to fund Trump’s political activities, and only a sliver of donations will be directed toward fighting the election results. This will give Trump a nice kitty to draw from to immediately start campaigning for 2024.

Four years of Trump’s two absolute favorite activities: holding rallies and spending other peoples’ money. He will try to cast himself as a President-in-exile and his base will eat it up. Four years of relentless attacks on the legitimacy of our democracy and four years of GOP representatives claiming not to have heard anything he’s said or tweeted so they can’t comment.

This is interesting:

I think this is what Donny & Co. were/are counting on: if Trump lost the election, the Republican playbook says to cast enough doubt on the election results to delay the transition of power, indefinitely. Thankfully, they have been as inept with this strategy as with most other things this administration has tried to do, and also thankfully, courts and legislatures around the nation are also rejecting this approach.

So, he’s trying to set up a deep state, is that it?

He wants everyone to fear him. He’s setting up a quaker state.

That is interesting! Basically, people who live in or near mountains don’t respond to polls, but the do vote.

Thanks, I love this map.

Is the republican party underestimated, or does Trump have something that makes it extra hard to measure? I know Biden won by over 7 million votes, but Trump was a lot closer than I think polls indicated.

Derp state. He’s setting up a derp state.

Joe Biden says more than several Republican Senators have called to privately congratulate him. Why do I suspect the calls went something like this (audio NSFW).

Seriously, though, I’m not surprised. I saw Moscow Mitch the other day say “the new administration” will play a part in the stimulus. Even Mitch knows it is over for Trump and Joe Biden will be calling the shots.

Here’s one theory, that Trump supporters are on average more socially isolated, and isolated people are less likely to participate in polls.

Could Social Alienation Among Some Trump Supporters Help Explain Why Polls Underestimated Trump Again? | FiveThirtyEight

538 had an interesting podcast published yesterday where Galen Druke talked to two different pollsters about their polling strategies and what they think is causing the polling results to be off. Stuff like Republicans are less trusting of institutions and don’t want to talk, people in general don’t usually want to answer a call from an unknown number, people may have cell phones with a different area code from the place they actually live, some states (like Iowa) are more homogeneous than others, etc.

This will give Trump a nice kitty to draw from to pay his legal expenses and debts.

Trump’s idea of a nice kitty looks like this:

The demise of land lines is really skewing and screwing up polling. The pollsters have to come up with something new.

Slimy Sean was doing this bullshit last night and calling for a criminal investigation in Georgia. But the FOX Web page isn’t talking about it. But I am sure Lying Laura and Crazy Carlson will do the same

Land lines aren’t the real problem. Pollsters adapted to that several years ago. The bigger problem now is that no one answers their phone if they don’t recognize the caller because of the endless spam calls. That requires the FCC to do something; pollsters are basically screwed until then.
