Election Day [Week][Month[s]] [Year] 2020 follow-along thread

Simply due to the “R” following Trump’s name. All falls before the “R”.

Don’t worry about Rudy. He filed a lawsuit demanding that the results of the covid test be overturned.

Brilliant!

BREAKING: Rudy has been admitted to John Hopkins Asphalt and Paving.

Over the past four years I’ve seen far too many news pieces about how the Democratic Party lost the middle and MUST listen to the voters in the suburbs and small town diners that went for Trump. That the party MOVED TOO FAR LEFT.

I want to now see the same reflection pieces on how the Republican Party lost the middle by much larger margins. Did they move TOO FAR RIGHT?

While Trump won over independents by four points nationally in 2016 against Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, Biden saw one of his largest pickups among that group — winning a 54 percent majority of independents, a 12-point rise from Clinton’s 42 percent showing in 2016. The pattern was seen across key battleground states, including Wisconsin, where independents flipped from backing Trump by a 10-point margin in 2016 to supporting Biden by a 14-point margin. In Arizona, Biden won independents by 11 points four years after Trump won the group by a narrower three points.

Voters nationally who identified their political views as moderate also swung sharply in Biden’s direction, favoring the Democrat by 30 points this year, compared with Clinton’s 12-point advantage. Across key states, Biden won moderates by 37 points in Arizona, 23 points in Wisconsin, 32 points in Georgia and 17 points in Pennsylvania. Those margins helped overcome the fact that more voters continue to identify as conservative than liberal, by a nationwide margin of 38 percent to 24 percent.

Never mind

Back to Rudy: it’s unseemly to wish ill upon anyone, even scumbags like Trump & co., so I don’t wish anyone randomly inflicted harm. BUT. We know that a certain number of people every day are going to become frighteningly sick as a result of COVID.

Somewhere out there I am sure there is a decent person (many of them, actually) who was exposed because they were working as a health care professional, or doing a high-risk service job to feed their family, or otherwise cruelly and unfairly afflicted with COVID. And that person is becoming frighteningly ill, perhaps approaching death, even as we write.

Please, dear god, I know you don’t exist, but could you PLEASE use your magical sky fairy powers to make that innocent person suffer no ill effects from the disease, and transfer the symptoms to Rudy or someone else in Trump’s inner circle?

It just seems so unfair that Trump, Melania, Barron, KellyAnne, and many more have tested positive but recovered completely. (I know, Herman Caine, but apparently he’s just the sacrificial Black guy and doesn’t count). One of them needs to have the wrath of COVID fully visited upon them. I’ll take Rudy, he’s as good a choice as any.

Barron is off limits.

You’re right. I wasn’t thinking.

He’s just a kid, CairoCarol. Not cool.

ETA: Ninja’d

I completely agree. As I said, I wasn’t thinking. I didn’t mean to imply that Barron should suffer any ill effects from COVID, but of course it sounded that way. Ugh. I’d take it out if I could.

Understood, and no worries.

I’ll go a step further. Absolutlely nothing wrong with what you said. It is unfair and if Barron did not have access to the best health care, maybe the outcome would have been different. The chances of someone his age dying from COVID are very small, even if he had not had that health care, but there have been deaths in that age range. You certainly were not attacking him personally and neither am I. Barron personally is off limits, criticizing access to health care for children of the rich is not.

Trivially, it is unfair (to the kids at least) that one kid had access to the best medical care through his parents while other kids do not. The CDC reports that 106 children aged 5-17 have died from COVID-19 (Barron Trump is 16).

But I think you go too far when you lament how it’s unfair, and within the same breath point out how Barron could have died if things were different. Surely you aren’t lamenting his survival; he did not choose his parents.

~Max

I am NOT lamenting his survival, I am glad he survived. I an lamenting those who died becsuse they did not have his level of care. I am lamentating those poor black, brown, Hispantic, Native American children and teenagers who did die. And the elderly who have died years before their time. And those people in rural, white, areas who thought it could not happen there, but then it did and dozens of people in a town of a few thousand died before their time

I think it is pretty damn simple. If you are rich, or the child of a rich man or woman, you get to live longer, even if you get infected, than those who don’t have that privledge.

After Rudy went around the county maskless and spreading covid, now he’s in the hospital. Whatever the opposite of thoughts and prayers is, that’s what I send to him.

Like his orange-skinned hero, the dye-dripping lawyer will get the best in medical care. Unlike so many Americans who won’t survive the illness that they worked so hard to spread. I don’t begrudge anyone getting good medical care, I just want everyone to get good medical care. It’s hard for me to work up sympathy for a guy working to steal an election for someone who has made it his life’s ambition to deny medical care for so many.

No one ever said thoughts and prayers have to be nice.

Well, Rudy broke the Arizona legislature. WTG, Rudy!

PHOENIX – The Arizona Legislature will close for a week “out of an abundance of caution” after Rudy Giuliani, President Donald Trump’s personal attorney, possibly exposed several Republican lawmakers to COVID-19.

Giuliani had spent more than 10 hours discussing election concerns with Arizona Republicans — including two members of Congress and at least 13 current and future state lawmakers — at the Hyatt Regency Phoenix last Monday. He led the meeting maskless, flouting social distancing guidelines and posing for photos.
