Election Day [Week][Month[s]] [Year] 2020 follow-along thread

This made me laugh.

When you stumble over words like “exzemption” and write like Smapti portraying Individual-ONE in full free-form, at what point does the judge decide to cite you for contempt? “Shut up or I will throw you in jail until you do”.

Arizona GOP asks followers if they’re willing to die in effort to overturn election results

The answer, for the most part, seems to have been ‘no’.

The turnaround looks pretty dramatic if you’re assuming all outstanding votes are 50/50. But when you count all the Republican votes first – no, it’s not dramatic at all.

It’s like if a football game is set up so that Clemson plays an entire first half on offense, and then Alabama gets the ball. Bama’s chances of a comeback are < astronomical.

Holy shit. And Republicans were accusing Democrats of having Trump Derangement Syndrome after 2016?

Projection

GOP leadership rejects resolution acknowledging Biden as President-elect

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Rules Committee Chairman Roy Blunt of Missouri voted with House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy in blocking the motion, effectively preventing the inaugural committee from publicly accepting that the upcoming inauguration will be for Biden.

Really, nothing more needs to be said. The GOP has resoundingly rejected democracy and the will of the voters.

I’m going to guess that there will be very few (or none) Republicans at the inauguration ceremony on Jan 20. They will all be attending Dear Leader’s Special Ego Rally instead.

There seems to be some chance they’ll recognize it on the 14th.

But, yeah. This ought to be absurd. Instead, it’s frightening – not in that I think they can pull it off this time, but in that significant numbers of them are, indeed, rejecting democracy.

I think what Republican office holders are finding is that there’s no way to get off this train, even if they want to. I’m sure that their thinking immediately after the election was to let Trump file his lawsuits, let the courts reject them and then eventually everyone will just kind of accept that Biden will be President.

But with Trump whipping the base into a frenzy that the election was stolen through massive fraud, how can any Republican countenance any recognition or accommodation of a Biden Administration? If your constituents genuinely believe that, then anything you do or say that directly or indirectly communicates that Biden is President is treason. And you will get booted out in your next primary.

Seriously. This is the ultimate purity test for Republicans.

I’ve been saying it for weeks: I suspect Republicans will acknowledge Biden as president-elect on January 6. Until then, they don’t want to throw an M-80 into the toilet bowl as the orange turd circles down.

Cert denied and done:

(edit: no dissent indicated, no comments, just straight up rejection).

I like this part of the CNN article:

The Supreme Court’s action is a crushing loss for President Trump who suggested as late as Tuesday that he thought the justices — including three of his nominees — might step in and take his side as he has continually and falsely suggested there was massive voter fraud during the election.

Thanks for this! Yaaaa-aas!!

Speaking of rejection, this must be a blow to Ted Cruz

Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, told “Hannity” Monday that he agreed to present oral arguments before the Supreme Court in a key election-related case – should the high court take the matter up – because the matter “raises very serious issues.”

They apparently really thought there was enough mud flung to get a Supreme Court review.

January 6 is when the nightmare becomes real for Congressional Republicans. Right now they can hem and haw and duck reporters when asked about whether Biden won the election. They can talk about how the President has the right to pursue his legal options. But so far, they haven’t had to do anything.

On January 6 at the Joint Session of Congress to count the electors, the electors from at least GA, PA, MI, WI and AZ will be objected to. All it takes is one Senator and one Representative to object, and then every Republican Senator and Representative is forced to vote yea or nay on whether to accept the certified electors from that state. And they will vote overwhelmingly that the Biden electors from those states are illegitimate.

And once you’ve done that, how do you move on from it toward acknowledging Biden as the legitimate President? “Well you were elected through a massively fraudulent election that I voted to overturn, but welcome aboard Mr. President!” They can’t. They’ll never acknowledge his legitimacy. They will continue to take every opportunity to undermine that legitimacy.

Marv Albert: Ree-JECTED
"The court in a brief order rejected a request made by U.S. congressman Mike Kelly, a Trump ally, and other Pennsylvania Republicans who filed a lawsuit after the Nov. 3 election arguing that the state’s 2019 expansion of mail-in voting was illegal under state law.
The order states, “The application for injunctive relief presented to Justice Alito and by him referred to the Court is denied.” https://www.newsnationnow.com/politics/2020-election/supreme-court-rejects-republican-bid-to-reverse-certification-of-biden-victory-in-pennsylvania/

So, how about the stupid case from Texas? I guess the SC doesn’t even have to address it, i.e., formally reject it. If nobody rejects it outright, does that mean it just sits there and expires at some point? The end of today or on Dec 14, say?

I was engaging in some back-and-forth today with a hardcore MAGAt, in a Facebook comment thread. He was saying “It’s not over! Just wait until we hear from the SCOTUS and Amy! You’ll see!!!” (And he suggested I go to Newsmax to find out what’s really going on.)

He’s probably feeling a little bit low right now. Give a moment to send him tots & pears.
