Election Day [Week][Month[s]] [Year] 2020 follow-along thread

I can absolutely see how this “reasoning” would click with the MAGAbots. There has to be something dirty going on if someone keeps getting nothing but bad calls, amirite? :male_detective:t4:

Yup…To them, it just shows how deep and pervasive the corruption is. It is a completely non-falsifiable belief system: If they win the cases, it shows that they’re right and if they lose the cases, it shows that they’re right.

  • gutting the departments and workers - essentially sabotaging the country as a way to ‘hurt’ his enemies - you know, the american people.

His supporters will, of course, not see this.

Rudy is currently prepping for the press conference at Moscow where the Top Division soccer league plays.

And in a new bit of lunacy, Texas is suing the Biden-voting states.

It should be noted that Paxton is a truly loathsome politician currently embroiled in a scandal over allegations of bribery and abuse of office to help a campaign donor that led to his entire senior staff resigning. He’s also been under an indictment for securities fraud that he’s managed to keep tied up in court for years – and was reelected in 2018 in spite of it.

This is straight out of his playbook to keep the feeding red meat to the base so that they’ll forget about little things like abuse of office.

as a ‘new’ case - I see nothing in that PDF (in a very, very, quick scan) that has not already been tossed out in every other case already decided at the state level.

Even so, how does the Texas Attorney General have any standing in the way other states run their elections?

How about other SAs taking Texas to court about their one drop-off box per county policy?

Agreed, and in addition, I can’t see the logic of Texas suing for something that allegedly happened in Georgia.

Oh yeah, what about this???

The probability of former Vice President
Biden winning the popular vote in the four Defendant
States—Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and
Wisconsin—independently given President Trump’s
early lead in those States as of 3 a.m. on November 4,
2020, is less than one in a quadrillion, or 1 in
1,000,000,000,000,000.

Never tell me the odds.

(and entirely irrelevant given the rules regaurding counting the mail in ballots in the given states)

There’s lies, damn lies, and statistics.

And, politicians who failed math.

He doesn’t, and it doesn’t matter. What’s important to the base is that Republican officeholders are fighting for Trump. It doesn’t matter if the chance of success is less than zero, if the arguments are farcical on their face, or if they border on (or tip over into) extralegal remedies.

After Biden is sworn in on January 20, the question every Republican politician will have to answer in their next primary election is, “What did you do to stop it?” And they better have a better answer than, “we let the legal process run its course.” Otherwise, they’re going to get challenged in the primary and probably thrown out.

With all the lawsuits filed, we seemed to have missed this one - from one Jeffrey Cutler, who is obviously auditioning for a role as Trump’s new personal attorney.

Here is some background I found on Mr. Cutler. It’s sort of jaw-dropping.

And here’s his “lawsuit”.

While the document is a MOTION TO DECLARE DONALD J TRUMP INC VICTORIOUS FOR INJUNCTIVE RELIEF BECAUSE OF CRIMES, the 27 page document posted online did not mention Trump . It did mention ObamaCare several times, Bill Cosby, and he seems particularly obsessed with the murder of federal employee Jonathan Luna. While the gish-gallop is difficult to parse, there are a lot of mail fraud and judicial misconduct allegations tossed about, because apparently this litigant send lots of documents to the courts, many of which disappear.

Here’s a random excerpt from the document.

KRISTEN WELKER’S HUSBAND IS A MARKETING EXECUTIVE FOR MERCK. Based on Tigers in the Bronx Zoo being diagnosed with COVID-19, there is ZERO evidence that the tigers ever failed to practice social distancing, because that person would be called LUNCH. HIV has NO VACCINE. This EFFECTIVELY INVALIDATES ALL THE MODELS being used to justify the restrictions. Mr Cutler based on standard engineering concepts the death of Philadelphi Police Lieutenant James Walker, Seth Rich, Bre Payton, Edgar Rosenberg, Lorna Breen, Ellen Greenberg may be MURDERS of the KLU KLUX KLAN and 1-2% of all law enforcement in the United Stew may be members or share their views. Also some elected officials and person in the military all branches.

How long will it take Alito to decide about taking up (or not) the PA case today? I thought a hearing was scheduled for 9 a.m. today but haven’t been able to find any more about it. It’s most likely to be rejected but I just want to know that it has been.

Not new. It’s been the central claim of Trump since the results started coming in. The exact number they quote may be new, I’ve never heard it before. But essentially it’s the same old claim.

My opinion may not have been clear from my post, but this is a preposterous argument.

My argument or Trump’s, or the lawyer filing this suit?

Gee, I’m bad at this. Texas’ argument. There isn’t much of a chance of an airliner crashing, but when one does we don’t pretend it didn’t happen because it wasn’t likely.

(and their numbers are ridiculous too)

I like how they spell out that “a quadrillion” is “1,000,000,000,000,000” – as one does to dramatically reveal a number so it looks really big.

This is a staple of creationist apologia. Claiming evolution can’t happen because events X, Y, Z have to happen, assigning a low probability to all of those things, and then multiplying those low probabilities to get a cosmically low probability for all of them together. With tonnes of dubious mathematical assumptions along the way.
