But on Wednesday night, Powell’s Kraken was finally slain: a judge in Wisconsin dismissed the fourth and final lawsuit, noting that it is voters, not judges, who decide who goes to the White House.
“One wonders why the plaintiffs came to federal court and asked a federal judge to do so. After a week of sometimes odd and often harried litigation, the court is no closer to answering the ‘why.’ But this federal court has no authority or jurisdiction to grant the relief the remaining plaintiff seeks.”
It actually is quite a well written Order, that smacks down every crazy argument they tried to make. “Fuck you” would have been more satisfying, but this is more of a dagger through their heart.
Can they refile? That’s all they ever do. It’s less like the Kraken and more like the monster that grows 3 new heads for every 1 that gets chopped off.
I’m sure they will. The purpose is not to win. The purpose is to give the GOP a reason to refuse to cooperate with a Biden presidency in any way whatsoever.
What do you all make of the Hunter Biden investigation…? This article says it covers foreign dealings as well as money laundering, and includes James Biden (Joe’s brother). Is this the new Benghazi scandal? Is Hunter in legal trouble, or is it a fishing expedition into Trump’s rivals?
What do you all make of Trump’s apparent signal to retreat to Mar-a-lago to never ever return to the WH? Especially in regard to–
–the effect it will have on the “impending civil war?” I personally do not think anything is going to happen re: violent insurrections, as far as wide-scale violence is concerned. I think it’s notable that the brunt of death threats are being made by republican constituents to REPUBLICAN OFFICIALS. I think the fact no one has fired a shot/died so far bodes well…their outrage seems to continue to fizzle, and as noted upthread, the “Kraken” et al will continuously re-file and kick the “but Trump shoulda won” can down the road so far that people will eventually lose interest. IMHO I feel like this was the best case–drawing out a long, stupid loss where their confidence is constantly eroding rather than one singular “piss them off” victory.
I think there was never a scenario where MAGA nuts were going to accept a clear and decisive Biden victory, so any denial of reality was probably inevitable.
All that said, Right Wing Terrorism and hate crimes are way way up under Trump, and his violent rhetoric certainly doesn’t help, so there may be pockets of whackos doing violent things, but again I cannot fathom a “civil war” or any militia groups acting en masse.
I am beginning to think that the judges who throw out the cases are now competing for the best lines in denouncing these ‘cases’…I mean like “Oh, Judge Howaboutit from PA thinks HE/SHE threw some ‘scathing remarks’ and these hacks; wait until they read mine.”
Of course judges are too well-mannered to ever consider such a thing…
After the Electoral College presumably votes Monday to affirm Joe Biden’s win, some Republican senators are reportedly preparing to acknowledge the de facto truth that never should have been in question: Donald Trump lost fair and square.
Many Senate Republicans have viewed the Dec. 14 vote both literally and figuratively speaking as the moment of truth, according to CNN. After electors in state capitals across the country finalize the certified results, those same Republicans are realizing they may have to actually part ways with their whiny, rage-y, delusional Dear Leader.
“Trump’s going to do what Trump is going to do,” Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa told CNN on the question of whether Trump will concede. But regardless, Grassley views the Electoral College as being the final say on the matter.
In recent weeks, just six GOP senators had acknowledged Biden as president-elect: Mitt Romney of Utah, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Susan Collins of Maine, Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania, Ben Sasse of Nebraska, and Bill Cassidy of Louisiana.
But those ranks appear to stand a chance of growing next week. GOP Sen. Jerry Moran of Kansas said Monday’s Electoral College vote would be the “defining outcome” of the race. An extended debate about the election process, he added, would only serve to hurt the country both at home and internationally.
“It is unhealthy for the well-being of our country, and our relations around the world if we spend time debating the outcome of the election once the presidential race has been determined,” Moran said in an interview. “Fix any problems with the process, but the outcome of an election can’t be something that is debated for the next four years.”
South Dakota Sen. John Thune, part of the GOP leadership team, seemingly expressed a desire to move on—as if Senate Republicans couldn’t have shut Trump down sooner by finding their spines.
