But if course, in the long term science always wins. Some Republicans know this, but they figure they will just blame it on the Democrats.

In the long run, we’re all dead - but the Republicans are doing their level best to speed it up.

Bite your tongue. When I was five, the terms “baseball team” and “Dodgers” were synonymous. My dad didn’t see fit to disabuse me of the notion, so they’re still synonymous.

Trump was able to take advantage of some issues that divided the country that he used to maximize his power. If the same issues prevail or get worse, then the same thing could happen again. I have less doubt about that than I do that he will continue to dominate the media and the collective consciousness of the country as he has for the last 4 years. I think his star will fade for a while at least.

He will be a study in the human condition and in poly-sci courses so that maybe we can eventually figure out exactly how this happened, but I agree he captured lightning in a bottle and I’m not 100% sure how they will be able to do that again.

I believe this. And Trump will consider this a testament to his genius. But what is really going to be analyzed by future historians is how it came to be that so many voters were so unbelievably fucking stupid – so childishly gullible, so easily conned – that they elected a totally unqualified self-serving and dangerously moronic demagogue.

H. L. Mencken would have been so proud.

The best thing about threads like this(check out the live 9/11 one, for example) is that it captures thoughts as things happened. If someone reads this in the future, they can see the hope, the despair, the worry, and the jubilation…and then again and again.

Offhand, I personally think there should be some time for post inauguration thoughts, and then possible closure of the thread.
Do we create a new thread for post inauguration lawsuits attempting to reverse the election? (One was filed in New Mexico on Dec 14, though I’m not sure if it was filed before or after the NM EC voted)
It would not be surprising to me if more are filed.

As far as I can tell, the actual votes in question amount to about 18,300, which 1) wouldn’t change the Pennsylvania outcome; and 2) changing the Pennsylvania outcome wouldn’t change the electoral college outcome. And the Supreme Court is not scheduled to meet again until after the votes are tallied in Congress.

Looks like Guiliani is really set on trying to fleece Trump for every day of $20,000 fees he can get.

Pennsylvania has 20 electoral votes. Flipping it means Biden wins 286 to 252 instead of 306 to 232.

I bet Tump’s hangup here is that Biden matched Trump’s electoral count from 2016. It’s the inaugural crowd syndrome all over again. Or, more correctly, still and again.

He did win the same amount, but Joe Biden got two more actual votes since. Trump’s vote total was only 304.
